Chapter 3 - First Spell - Attack On Manor

Chapter 3 - First Spell - Attack On Manor

----------------------------------------

After having some snacks, Sylas returned to his desk to continue working. From time to time, he opened his window to let the cold, clean air in.

The cold air awakaned his mind and gave him the needed concentration and a comfortable place to keep on working towards his studies of magic and knowledge.

Despite their limited funds, Gran ensured that Sylas had three meals prepared for him every day.

The three meals were balanced, and compared to other people, the people who are not nobles ate luxury meals.

As a noble, it was important for him to be well-nourished and looked after.

Sylas closed his eyes to gather his concentration and then began reading the remaining books.

He wasn't just reading to read; because of his unique ability, he fully comprehended everything he read and retained it in his memory as if it were instinctive knowledge.

"I don't need to waste any time. Time is my only ally for the time being. I need power—power that I can grasp with my mind and soul."

----------------------------------------

At the end of two hours, all five books were completely read and finished.

Sylas takes a deep breath and looks out of the window with a satisfied smile on his face.

"It's always cold in this forsaken land."

"I cannot imagine how people were able to live in this place for more than six months."

Sylas whispered softly.

He wasn't stupid; he could easily feel that something within him was changing and developing slowly but surely.

He closed his eyes and whispered to see his changes.

"Traveler."

"Sylas Sylind"

"Level Two (Novice Mystic)"

"Physical Power: 2.0"

"Mind Power: 7.0"

"Spiritual Power: 7.0"

-

"Passive Abilities"

"Godly Calmness"

"Conceptual Understanding and Reality Deciphering."

After reading the new information about himself, Sylas let out a light chuckle.

"The Novice Mystic level is the stage where a person's mental and spiritual power allows them to perform beginner-level actions in magic and paranormal acts."

"Because my understanding is very strong, reading and fully comprehending the books led to a significant increase in my mental and spiritual power."

Sylas swallowed lightly, and, after closing his eyes again to remember what he had learned, he first began thinking about the five spell techniques.

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

Spell techniques were methods created and designed by powerful and high-level wizards.

They were akin to a recipe created by a chef or a program, an algorithm, made by a programmer in his old world.

Each spell technique had mental and spiritual energy that needed to be enacted to be created and activated.

The control of magical power and the imagination, as well as the casting word used to activate it and the skill and ability of the wizard who created the spell, all varied and made changes in the result of the cast spell.

"Spell techniques are generally divided into three categories: elemental, paranormal, and ritual."

"The simple magic book has two elemental spells, two ritual spells, and one paranormal spell."

"The easiest type of spell for a new wizard to learn is ritual spells."

Ritual spells were the type of spells that used resources and many other complex acts of magic to cast the spell.

The caster usually needs different kinds of materials, from beads to monster parts to human parts, for dark ritualistic spells.

Because the caster uses these materials and complex acts of magic, the spell gets easier as the control of the magic energy and soul energy, as well as the needed mind power, diminishes greatly.

The resources take the heavy load, and the caster needs only to be successful in activating the spell.

Sylas closed his eyes to calm his mind and focused on continuing to work.

"I want to first perform the Wisp Spell, which is a fire element spell."

The Wisp Spell was quite simple and easy to understand—at least for him, it was.

The mage would gather magical energy in his hand, convert it into the fire element, then choose a target with his mind, and, after whispering the casting word of the spell "Wisp," he or she would imagine his target being attacked by a small circular-shaped fire or fire-element particles.

"It's a sneakier but much weaker version of a fireball spell. If a normal person is hit by this spell, it creates a second-degree burn in a 10-cm circular area at the targeted spot. It is known to create third-degree burns in the middle of the circular shape of fire."

"Not enough to kill, but quite effective for stopping and injuring."

After making his decision, Sylas began to focus. His spiritual energy spread within his body, slowly mixing with his mental power to activate the magical energy.

In a short span of a second, the magical energy gathered in Sylas's right palm instantly turned into warm energy.

Sylas targeted the iron armor hanging on the coat rack in his room.

At Sylas's command, a 10-cm circular fire manifested momentarily on the iron armor and disappeared as quickly as it had manifested.

The sudden manifestation of a small fire still powerful enough to heat the room for half a second.

The spot on the iron armor where the fire had hit showed blackened, burned damage.

Sylas swallowed and closed his eyes with a huge smile on his face, accepting the new power within his body and soul.

"I'm finally able to achieve my dream. As long as I keep on working towards my goals and dreams without getting lazy and egoistical, I can reach the level of a god."

Sylas felt great pleasure and ego satisfaction. He could not help but imagine himself bigger and stronger.

He felt like he was in front of one hundred thousand people, and they were all bowing to him, looking at him like he was their god.

Sylas laughed a little and shook his head.

"Calm down; just because you were able to cast one simple magic spell, do not go further into the terroir of grandiosity."

Sylas said to himself.

As someone who had always researched magic and paranormal events throughout his life, he had finally witnessed real magic.

In fact, not just witnessed—it was he who had performed it, and he hadn't struggled much.

"At my current level, I can use the Wisp Spell Technique 30 times a day. If I want to use it against a moving target, I'll need to focus more."

"If I lose focus while targeting, the spell won't activate. According to what's written in the magic book, the targeting phase is the hardest part of the wisp spell.

"According to the events mentioned in the History of Magic book, most wizards found learning the Wisp Spell unnecessary due to the targeting problem."

"Not really a limitation for me,"

He was confident because his ability granted him far greater focus, understanding, logic, and all mental-related talents than others.

In this situation, he didn't really have any difficulties to worry about.

Sylas wanted to learn the other spells, but at that moment, with his enhanced mental and spiritual power, he sensed bad energy and, a few seconds later, heard the sound of swords clashing coming from outside his room, downstairs.

"Ting !"

"Ting !"

Quickly, he rushed out of his room with a serious expression in his eyes.

He walked briskly down the corridor and looked down from the upper floor, seeing Gran facing two men dressed in black leather clothing, with curved and sharp swords in their hands and masks covering half of their faces.

"Thieves or bandits perhaps?"

He thought.

Gran was a strong warrior, so his intuition and senses were quite developed through the battles he had experienced over the long years.

He easly sensed that Sylas is watching him and on the upstairs.

"My Lord, please return to your room. I will come to you after killing these two bandits!"

Gran called out, holding his large sword tightly more than ever to gather his strength.

Although he tried to display his courage, the fatigue on his face was evident. Easy to see from perspetive experienced fighter.

"Normally, I wouldn't be able to sense it, but now, as a wizard, it's not hard to understand that the two men facing Gran are not ordinary people."

"Gran isn't tired because he's been fighting; he's under stress because he knows the opponents he's facing are strong."
