Chapter 71: War and the Sea

Mila

Mila felt sorry for Isaiah, but not to the point she’d allow him to kill her, so she’d done everything she could to get away.

Now though, she was starting to think breaking his spear hadn’t been the best idea as it seemed to have really, really pissed him off, to the point she was pretty sure he’d gained new Law Eggs.

After he stabbed himself a few times, she’d already realized one of his racial abilities fed off his qi to allow for passive healing—which was completely unfair—and now he seemed to have developed a skill which burned his health to make him stronger and faster, completely making up for the fact he was no longer holding his weapon and thus couldn’t make use of the best of his class effects, an increase to all physical stats by 25% when wielding a spear.

Sure, with her Third Eye Princess uniqueness allowing for the rather amazing ability to use a weakened version of Evil Eyes - Lust through her aura, it meant Isaiah had to close his eyes if he wanted to chase her. And sure, her telekinesis and the two swords from the undead generals she’d recovered from the Gale Clan camp allowed her to slow him down even if she couldn’t injure him, so she didn’t have to maintain her full speed just to live. But Isaiah didn’t seem like he was going to stop and the look on his face was rather terrifying.

She could escape if she could stay still for thirteen seconds to use the token to return to the platform in the desert, but Isaiah wasn’t going to give her that chance.

Slowing down ever so slightly, Mila lowered her use of telekinesis to the point she’d only make use of the swords when Isaiah got within 15 meters and prepared herself for the long haul.

Isaiah was burning through his qi faster than she was burning through hers and, with Aalam’s help, she recovered her resources faster, so, even though he had over three times as much qi as she did, he would lose if she could drag on the time.

Sadly, he soon realized this, and he slowed down to match, stopping his boosting skill and just relying on his superior speed and perception.

They ran like that for several hours, running through forests and fields, and, for a while, Mila was able to increase her lead in the forests as Isaiah still had his eyes closed. But he quickly adapted. Mila didn’t have anything to block the sounds she was making while running and the range at which he could correctly sense her location with his ears was further than with his eyes.

Things changed, however, when, five hours after the chase started, they reached the sea. Using Telekinesis, Mila pulled herself out over the water and then down into it, moving herself further out and deeper every second.

Isaiah’s Storm Steps didn’t work well underwater and his hearing didn’t help as much as he wasn’t yet accustomed to the way sound traveled through liquids. He also couldn’t stay under as long as Mila as he didn’t have a healing-based Law and, as his race didn’t run on soul energy, he required more oxygen.

This allowed Mila to slip away even without teleporting to the platform, and, as she’d planned before Isaiah started chasing her, she moved south.

Then, roughly seven hours later, when the time limit for a member of the Gale Clan to retake their Pillar of Conquest had passed, she got her reward.

Mila hadn’t received any System notifications about killing people after teleporting away as the System wasn’t unfair enough to give her information she would otherwise not have access to, but, as Nana Xara had told her, the kills still counted toward her quest completion.

Judging by the contents of the quest, however, Mila hadn’t killed Ava Gale, so it was possible the woman was still alive.

Putting that to the side, however, Mila quickly went into the System lists and chose her rewards.

She’d gathered quite a few spatial storage artifacts inside the Left Hand of the Runescribe’s subspace and, even though she currently didn’t have access to those, she’d stolen a bag of holding about the size of those she’d seen in the tutorial from the man left in charge of the Gale Clan camp, along with a belt to hang it on, so she didn’t waste any of her picks on another storage artifact, even if that meant she couldn’t choose another teleportation platform.

Instead, for the Epic artifacts, she went with the materials she knew Aalam would want, a Contained Space Essence, a Contained Death Essence, and a Contained Darkness Essence. Then, for the Rare artifact, she chose something which could prove useful for herself, a Ring of Defense. Every three standard days it could protect her from one attack and, had she had it before, she wouldn’t have lost her arm.

For the skills, the Rare skill was simple, one of the two skills required for skill fusion to form Spacetime Sensing (F-Legendary) along with the Spatial Sense (F-Epic) and Temporal Sense (F-Epic) skill orbs still in the Left Hand of the Runescribe’s subspace, Mana Sense (F-Rare). Then, for the Epic grade skills, she took Spherical Vision (F-Epic), Mental Spike (F-Epic), and Mental Influence Field (F-Epic), which, when mastered, could be combined into Psychic Domain (F-Legendary).

Putting the contained essences and skill orbs in her bag of holding, she then moved south.

It took three days, but she successfully arrived at the location of the Quill clan’s Pillar of Conquest and it didn’t take her long to figure out what had happened. She just found a hunting party, killed half of it, and then charmed and enslaved the other two.

The force of the Quill Clan, along with more than half of the forces of the Vol Clan and the Amoranth Royal Family had ambushed the forces of the Kingdom of Night and completely wiped out almost all of them. They’d lost their leadership in turn, however, with only Prince Tomin Amoranth surviving, and someone who sounded like Ava Gale was taken as a prisoner.

Her two new slaves didn’t know about what had happened to the artifacts of the Kingdom of Night’s leaders, however, so she just took their money and cut off their heads when they weren’t looking.

Moving quickly, she then ambushed twelve other hunting parties, enslaving everyone she could for information and killing them afterwards.

She didn’t get any more leads on the Left Hand of the Runescribe, but she did get a good sense of the current positions of the forces of the Amoranth Kingdom. Most of the forces who had ambushed the Kingdom of Night’s alliance had moved with Prince Tomin toward the Pillar of Conquest of the Flare Clan, which was relatively nearby, but, having to give time for the soldiers to recover from injuries sustained in the battle, they’d only left half a day before.

In the Quill clan camp, there were several thousand injured soldiers and only 634 healthy cultivators to look after them, of which she had already killed 52. And most of those six hundred were crafters or healers.

Then, killing the last hunting party she could find, Mila settled on a plan. She used Trickster’s Guise to take on the distinctive traits of a Quill Clan member, reddish skin, a slightly larger nose, black hair, and nearly black eyes. Then she dipped her recovering left arm in blood and dirt and staggered into the Quill Clan. “There’s someone hunting us in the woods.”

It was the same thing she’d done in the Gale Clan. With the fear generated by seeing her injuries and faking her condition with her Law Larva of the Healer, she was able to distract the Quill Clan members from even thinking about her identity. Then they brought her into a makeshift hospital tent with noise cancelling functions and the leader of the Quill Clan forces still around their pillar came to see her along with five other people.

Using Telekinesis and the weapons of the undead generals, she quickly killed the five people with him and, using Evil Eyes - Lust, she made him her slave. “Where are the artifacts of the leaders of the Kingdom of Night’s forces? Tell me now.”

Not wanting his soul to burn, the man answered. “They should be with Prince Tomin, inside his storage ring.”

“Alright then. Thank you.” Mila used Telekinesis to snap the man’s neck. Then she activated Phantasmic Doppelgängers to create four clones and used her Law Egg of Obfuscation to make them functionally invisible to those without the right kind of detection skills.

One of the five to come in with the middle aged man she’d just killed had been the only known holder of a contract breaking skill in the camp, so she and her clones quickly moved around the camp, charming and enslaving everyone they met who was healthy enough to move on their own.

It took a couple hours, but she pretty soon had about a thousand people under her and she ordered all of them to form a large group and follow Prince Tomin’s forces.

She heavily implied she would be using them to attack, and this gave them hope someone in Prince Tomin’s force would be able to save them, so they complied. The main reason for the order, though, was just to get them out of the way.

With five Mental Forges instead of the normal one, both her and Aalam’s psyforce regeneration rates were very fast, and Evil Eyes - Lust could use qi or mana as well, albeit with more of the resource type needed for the same effect, but still, Mila was exhausted after charming so many people.

So, with them gone, Mila took a couple hours to kill all the invalids still in the camp the old fashioned way, by stabbing them in the throat with a spear, and then she quite quickly caught up with the force she’d sent out, as they were moving as a slow group, and ordered them all to kill themselves, gaining most of their primal energy when they failed to comply.
