Hunter of Sentients XV: Increase the effectiveness of all base stats by 7.5%

The total of Aalam’s stats was 20,622, which was huge, usually a value not even achievable by an F rank, but even the weakest E rank had at least 6,516 total stat points at level 37 and 52,524 at level 108.

That difference was even more exaggerated at D rank, yet alone C rank, so, when the soul fragment of the Shadow Thief activated the inheritance’s array formation and tried to take over Mila’s soul, there was nothing Aalam could do.

Thankfully, him protecting her from the Shadow Thief was not part of the plan.

Just as there was a virtually impossible difference between an F rank and a C rank, there was an even larger difference between a C rank and an A rank, and that wasn’t even accounting for the fact the Shadow Thief’s soul was just a fragment while Nana Xara’s was in perfect condition.

Now, normally, Nana Xara couldn’t have any direct effect on anything in Mila’s life, but someone trying to take over her soul was one of the few exceptions. Nana Xara had a contract with the System to allow her to take two disciples, but she wasn’t allowed a third, and, if the Shadow Thief’s soul fragment succeeded, that is what would happen.

The soul fragment was just that, a fragment, so what it was trying to do was not to replace Mila’s soul and take over her body, which would result in a loss of all Mila’s karmic bonds, but to merge itself with Mila’s soul, only replacing the parts which held Mila’s memory and sense of self, not the parts which held her power.

This violated the System’s will, as it would effectively kill Mila while automatically giving Nana Xara a new apprentice, so it didn’t just allow Nana Xara to interfere. It forced her to or else she’d lose several unspecified privileges. Thus, as soon as the soul fragment got close to Mila’s soul, it felt a soul much, much, much more powerful than it reach out from far away and trap it in a little box of soul power.

Nana Xara was free to stop the soul fragment’s actions in any way she wanted, and she saw no reason to waste such a good cultivation resource like the fragment of a C rank soul, so she locked the fragment away inside Mila’s own soul, where Mila could talk to it, affect it with Evil Eyes - Lust so she could eat it, or just kill it, but, while Mila could affect the soul fragment, the fragment couldn’t do anything to her.

When she was consulting with Nana Xara about how to approach the inheritance if the Shadow Thief’s soul fragment turned hostile, Nana Xara had revealed this loophole, but it hadn’t originally been Mila’s intention to use it as she still didn’t fully trust Nana Xara’s intentions. She had, however, kept it as a backup, as she judged the chance Nana Xara was lying was quite low and the chance the soul fragment would attempt a soul merge was quite high.

Originally, Mila’d wanted to just trick the soul fragment, get the treasures, and then break whatever deal they made later, but the ritual sacrifice plan of the Kindar Raiders had made that impossible, and Aalam had to enter the inheritance to rescue her. Mila hadn’t been sure what capabilities the inheritance had, however, so she and Aalam couldn’t just leave, as it was possible the Shadow Thief’s soul fragment could do something drastic which would ruin all their plans.

She then stalled for a bit while Aalam analyzed the array formations in the heart of the inheritance to try and figure out what they could do and, when one of the offensive formations appeared to be designed to release a powerful soul attack which would kill every single life form on the planet, she hadn’t had much choice.

She’d baited the soul fragment, and Nana Xara had done the rest, though to Mila’s senses it felt about the same as when she’d been granted her cultivation technique. Her senses weren’t strong enough yet to see the soul magic used by either the Shadow Thief’s soul fragment or Nana Xara, so all she felt was her soul being suppressed by the soul fragment’s array formation. Then that suppression stopped and another small piece of foreign matter was attached to her soul, only this time it was a cage around an enemy instead of a container around an inheritance.

She could only sense both the inheritance and the caged soul fragment in an abstract way, somehow knowing they were there, but without any actual direction, and it was all very metaphysical. If she wanted to interact with either, she easily could, she just had to have the intent to do so and it would be done.

But, as she wasn’t like Aalam who somehow found abstract multi-dimensional analysis as easy as breathing, thinking about it any more would just make her brain hurt, so she stopped.

The golems who’d been about to attack Aalam had come to a halt around him before they’d gotten the chance to swing their swords down, Nana Xara having done something to stop both them and the array when she’d sealed up the Shadow Thief’s soul fragment. And Aalam was slowly recovering from the array’s soul suppression, which seemed to have done more to him than her, the effect on her likely having been deliberately less.

Still, however, Aalam was Aalam, so the experience gave him some kind of minor epiphany, raising his Law Larva of Cold to middle grade, even though no water Laws had been used in the formation.

Not wanting to waste time, Mila walked over to Ava Gale and Prince Tomin. Ava, she quickly judged, had died from the soul suppression, her Soul stat having been too low, so she stripped the woman of all her artifacts and the artifacts and her body went into the Left Hand of the Runescribe.

Then Mila stripped Prince Tomin, who had fallen unconscious, of all his possessions other than his underclothes, putting everything in the Left Hand of the Runescribe, and shook him awake, not at all gently. When he came to, she then gave him the option to die or accept a contract, holding the Twin Dragons in spear form to his throat.

Terms:

1. You will take no actions with the intention of harming the Mistress of Oaths and Deception, the Heavenly Spark Soul King, Isaiah Gale, or any natives of Hira

2. You will take no actions to increase your level for your remaining stay on Hira

3. You will immediately transfer all your System credits to the Mistress of Oaths and Deception

4. You will follow all the orders of the Mistress of Oaths and Deception and the Heavenly Spark Soul King for your remaining time on Hira

Punishment:

Death

Do you accept?

Yes/No

“I-I accept.”

“Alright then.” Gaining quite a few credits, Mila transformed the Twin Dragons back into their earrings form and pointed to one of the exits. “Leave the inheritance and wait outside until we come out.”

Tomin left and Mila then turned to look at Aalam. “Do you think we’ll actually be able to get access to the treasures?”

“Let’s see.” Aalam was all smiles as he poured mana into a rune of one of the array formations built into the room, causing the entire array to light up. The stone around the pedestal holding the black orb then lowered into the ground to form a spiral staircase and Aalam started to slowly walk down, carefully using his various sensory skills to check for traps.
