Interlude: On the move
“You still don’t have any news?”
“Yes. The last message we received stated that he will contact us soon, but we didn’t get any new since then.”
Two middle-aged men were talking in a large office. It was one of the King’s adviser offices. The room was used by the adviser of the Waldemar house.
In the Dorell Kingdom, the highest authority was held by the King and by his advisers.
They were six of them. Four of them were chosen among the four Great noble houses of the kingdom.
Without any relative left alive after a series of mysterious murders, Arthur Waldemar had no other choice but to become the adviser himself.
Even if it was a position of high status, it wasn't really appropriate for the head of a Great Noble house to become the adviser himself. Usually, a close relative of the family was chosen to execute the task of advising the King and representing the Noble House.
When he was away, Arthur Waldemar didn't have any other choice but to entrust this task to one of his subordinates, Dano Calrimann.
He was a tall man with well-defined muscles forged by his rigorous physical training. His skin was tanned, proof that he spent too much time under the sun, but his blue eyes and blond hair still gave him an attractive appearance.
This man was one of the last faithful servants of the Waldemar house.
For this reason, he accepted the position temporarily when his master was away despite not being of noble lineage and despite the fact that his talent in magic was average.
In this kingdom, magic had a special place. If you were talented in magic, it was possible to ascend in the hierarchy of the Kingdom even if you didn't have any noble lineage.
For this reason, every child aspired to become a powerful mage. However, walking on the path of magic on his own wasn't so easy. Most of those children weren't able to become mages powerful and respected.
This was the case for Dano.
His accomplishments as a mage were average. He wasn't able to become a Saint mage.
As a result, he chose the path of a Battlemage. The combat profession for those unable to become true mage.

He focused entirely on the practice of the sword and some magic that he was able to use without problem to become a well-known magic soldier.
However, even if his accomplishments as a Battlemage were numerous and impressive, in the end, he was still only a soldier.
This wasn’t a secret.
In this country, those without talent in magic were looked down upon. Even if it was temporary, the contrast between his position as an adviser to the King and his status as a simple soldier was just too important.
The scorn of the other advisers and noblemen was a thorn to his pride as a soldier. However, he was still willing to do this job for this man.
His parents were killed by a deviant when he was young. The head of the Waldemar family let him stay in his house and protected him.
He couldn’t thank him enough for that.
For this man and his house, he was willing to make any sacrifice.
That’s why he was so worried after hearing the news from one of his men.
His master was supposed to contact him as soon as he arrived at his mansion, but he didn’t send any message.
His master couldn't miss this appointment with the King, especially given his current position.
“Take three men with you and find him. Send me a message as soon as you find something. Don’t forget, you must be quick.”
“Yes, sir.”
“I know that my master hired a Vrapy’s carriage in the town of ‘Dorse’. It’s a small town, you will be able to find the coachman easily.”
“Yes, sir.”
The henchman hesitated before asking.
“Did you follow him?”
Dano clicked his tongue in annoyance.
“Yes, I did. My master wanted to leave alone without hiring any mercenary. Therefore, I hired some people to follow him and protect him if necessary. However, they lost him after the carriage left. We don’t have much time, find him.”
“Yes, sir.”
The man finally exited the room in a hurry.
Dano stood up from his chair behind his master’s desk and went near the window to look outside.
It was a bright and peaceful day.
However, his heart was shaking.
His instinct told him that something was wrong.
“Please, be safe master.”
It was already too late to make this wish.
