Chapter 33 - Cure for Everything

Chapter 33 - Cure for Everything

“Holy fucking shit. He really got shot?” Sal says as he sits on the driver's seat and closes the door.

Leo lets out a chuckle. “Yeah. I think he was trying to make a move or contact someone. Someone who claimed to be the prime minister's son didn't want to give him his phone so he had him shot. Su, buddy, you should be more careful; words hurt y'know?” He says with a smile as he continues to press down on the wound.

“Fuck him. Fuckin’ spoiled bitch. Next time I see him, I'm knocking him out.” Su Sheng says as leans back on the backseat. “And can you go easy? That fuckin’ hurts you know?” He says unhappily.

“What can I do, man? We have to apply pressure.” He says semi-confidently. If Leo was being honest, he didn’t really know what he was doing; he was mostly going with the flow, following instincts that were probably built from watching too much television.

“Where are we going anyway?” Sal asks as he drives the car.

“Just take him to my hotel, it’s pretty close. It’s just a bullet wound to the leg, how bad could it be? Besides, I think it went through. Just bandage him up, maybe some stitches, and some antibiotics?” Leo says casually.

“Fuck man. But what if it didn’t go through? And there are like pieces inside? Or what if it hit like an important artery or vein, or something? He could bleed out internally. Also, what about your girlfriend? Do you really want her seeing this?” Sal asks, not quite sure about the decision.

“Yeah, whatever. I should probably ease her into this sort of scene. Also, it’s probably not that bad. I’m like 70% sure it went all the way through, and the bleeding’s not bad; I don’t think it hit anything important. I mean it’s in his leg, whatever right?” Leo says, continuing to speak in a relaxed tone.

“Fuck man. I don’t know.” Sal says.

“Ughh, here’s an idea assholes. How ‘bout you take me to a hospital?” Su Sheng says, finding the matter incredulous.

“Uhh, I don’t know. If we go to the hospital they'll start asking for a bunch of information and they’ll probably record our names. Cops could get involved… I don’t know, man…” Leo says. He really didn’t want to go to the hospital.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Yeah, he’s right. I spent like 5000 points on this identity. I’d rather not muddy it up on the first job.” Sal says, agreeing to stay away from the hospital.

Su Sheng closes his eyes in frustration. “You guys are assholes.” He says, not feeling at all comfortable with leaving his life in these two’s hands.

“Don’t worry about it.” Leo says with a smile.

Penelope’s eyes widen. “What the is this? Is that guy bleeding? Why are you bringing him in here?” She says, somewhat bewildered.

Leo and Sal move Su Sheng over to the couch and lay him down gently.

“Penelope, honey. Could you close the door?” Leo says as takes out the suture kit.

Penelope moves to close the door before walking over to have a look. “How bad is it?” She asks.

“Not to bad. We’re just going to stitch it up and bandage it. And Su, sorry about this, but I doubt it’s going to look pretty.” Leo says, a little amused by the matter.

“Oh? Maybe I can help?” Penelope says.

“Oh? How? Do you know how to stitch a wound?” Leo asks, curious.

“Well, no. I don’t know how to stitch a wound, but I do have a potion.” Penelope says with an enthusiastic smile. “And I’d love to test it!” She says, somewhat excitedly.

Leo smiles, very amused. “Awesome. Let’s try it.” He says, excited to see this potion in action.

Penelope smiles and goes to get it.

“Hey, hey, man. Don’t just play with my life like that, man. I don’t want any of that new age shit. Who knows what it will do? I'm already bleeding, I’d rather not shit my pants as well.” Su Sheng says, not confident at all about this so-called potion.

Leo laughs out loud. “You’re a funny guy Su. After all this, we should hang out sometime.” He says, feeling some comradery.

Sal pats Leo on the chest and raises an eyebrow. “Dude? Potion? What is this?” He asks.

Leo shrugs. “I bought her some witchcraft stuff. It’s no big deal.” He says.

Sal’s eyes widen. “Are you serious? Dude, those skills cost over 10,000 points each! Are you seriously spending that on this relationship? You’ve known her for like a few months!” He exclaims, somewhat cringing at the cost.

“Whatever, man. What can I say? I love her.” Leo says unhindered.

Penelope pauses as she hears the words. A smile couldn’t help but appear on her face. She quickly walks to the living room and hands back a cup with some murky water. “It’s called the Water of Life. It’s a cheap and quick healing potion for small wounds.” She says with a smile.

Leo raises an eyebrow. “What’s in it?” He asks, curious.

“Water, a lot of sugar, two shots of whiskey, and a reason to live another day.” Penelope says, listing out the ingredients.

Leo looks up to Penelope. “What’s the reason?” He asks.

Penelope lets out a blush. “What else could it be? It’s love. Each day is another chance to love and feel loved.” She says, feeling her cheeks continue to get hotter.

Su Sheng gives the cup of murky liquid a blank look. “Yeah, I’d drink that.” He comments honestly.

Leo couldn’t help but laugh out loud once more. “Dude, you’re hilarious. Alright, here, take it.” He says as he hands the cup over.

Su Sheng doesn’t hesitate and drinks it all down in one go before letting out a breath. “Hmm. It’s not bad. Sweet.” He says before looking to his wound. “But did it do anything?” He wonders.

Leo removes their makeshift bandage and looks at the wound. Nothing happened for a while, but after a bit, the wound began to knit together. Leo’s eyes widen. “That’s wild.” He says.

“Huh, love really is the cure for everything.” Su Sheng says, pretty impressed.

“Damn. Maybe I should give it a chance. Apparently it can save your life.” Sal says, somewhat amazed.

Penelope lets out a smile of victory. Fuck yeah! She thinks happily.
