“And how much experience do you have with Microfire Deployments? Much of what we do is maintenance and administration of the Microfire Suite of products, but we also do a lot of deployments. Is that something you'd be able to do?” A man asks over the video chat.
Leo lets out a chuckle. “I have a lot of experience with Microfire Server deployments. I even have experience with Microfire Server 2, but I doubt you guys need that. I also have a little experience in Microfire Cloud deployments, but my knowledge of it could use a touch up.” Leo says casually.
The man smiles. “That’s fine. To be honest, just the fact that you’re a previous employee of the Black Star corporation is enough for us to hire you. I doubt this Service Desk job would be any more challenging than your work there. Tell me, why did you decide on this company?” He asks with a raised eyebrow.
Leo lets out a bitter smile and some sweat begins to drip from his forehead. Damn, what the hell is the Black Star corporation? Is it actually suspicious that I’m applying to a random managed service provider? Leo wonders before taking a breath. “Ah, actually. Uhm, at the Black Star corporation there wasn’t really much room for improvement for me. I was sort of pigeonholed to a certain role and I never could quite break free from it. With this company, I was sort of hoping to expand my horizons a bit.” Leo says with a hopeful smile.
The man lets out a laugh. “Alright, that’s great. When can you start?” He asks with a smile.
A big grin appears on Leo’s face. Got’em. He thinks, satisfied.
…
…
Leo knocks on the door and it wasn’t long before Penelope opened the door.
“Oh? You’re here? Come in, dinner will be ready soon.” Penelope says as she gestures for Leo to come in before scurrying back to the kitchen.
“That’s a cute apron!” Leo calls out as he takes off his shoes.

“Hmph! Of course it’s cute! It’s a Bear-chan apron from the Furry Rangers anime! He’s the fluffiest one!” Penelope calls back.
Leo closes the door and walks to the living room before taking a seat on the couch. He stretches back and lets out a yawn as he places his feet on the ottoman. Damn. So this is the rest of my life huh? Got a job, got a girlfriend. What else do I need? I think things are about to get real boring real quick, and to be honest, that’s just lovely. Leo thinks, satisfied.
“Hey, I got a new job today!” Leo calls out once again.
“Oh? Where? What do you do?” Penelope calls back.
Leo lets out another yawn. “I dunno. What do you do?” He asks casually. He wasn't sure why, but he felt a little sleepy. He hasn’t spent any work points on a sleep experience, so it was weird that he was yawning. Maybe… Maybe I’m just satisfied… Leo thinks with a smile on his face.
“What? Haven’t I told you? I’m a librarian.” Penelope replies.
Leo raises an eyebrow. “You’re a librarian? Huh… No wonder I find you so hot…” Leo expresses with some wonder.
“What? Is that what you’re into? Hot, nerdy girls?” Penelope asks casually.
Leo lets out a laugh. “Yeah, but they got to have some sass in them. Otherwise it’s no fun.” He says with a smile.
“Alright. We’ll have to fully explore that idea later. But for now, dinner’s ready. C’mon.” Penelope calls out.
“Yes, mom.” Leo says before getting up.
…
…
“Okay, can we just try restarting the computer?” Leo says over his headset.
“Yup, just a moment.” A voice replies from the phone. “Okay, it’s starting back up. Logging in… Okay, I’m going to try it again… It’s opening… Huh, seems to be working. That’s weird. Okay, thanks.” The voice says.
Leo smiles. “Yup, no problem. Have a good day.” He says before ending the call. Leo then updates the ticket before closing it.
**DING**
Leo takes out his phone and looks at the notification.
Avoid further frustration. 50 work points.
Leo raises an eyebrow. That’s just wild… I wonder if there’s a way to maximize the work points earned… Leo begins to wonder before deciding to just let it go. As long as work points are coming in, I’m satisfied. Who wants to guess at what that weird ass system wants anyways? He thinks with a shake of his head.
**DING**
Leo raises another eyebrow. Another notification? What is it now? He thinks as he looks at the message.
Low priority job. Saren Holmes, an undead agent in your vicinity, needs serious medical attention. Save him. Worth 100 work points.
Leo’s eyes widen. Damn. This dude’s dying and you’re calling it low priority? Is this how the Black Star corporation sees me? Leo thinks before letting out a sigh and standing up.
He walks over to his supervisor’s office and knocks on the door. “Hey, boss. I’m going out for a break.” He calls out.
“Yeah, you have 20 minutes.” A voice calls back.
“Yup.” Leo says before turning and leaving. As Leo continues to walk, a weird feeling begins to creep up on him and he pauses his steps. Why do I feel like something weird is about to happen? Leo wonders. Should I just sit back down and get to work? He thinks, seriously considering the decision, but before long, Leo could only let out an exasperated sigh. You can’t just tell me a man is dying and expect me to sit down. Fuckin’ life. So annoying. He thinks before hurrying along once again.
