“Son, do you know why I called you here?” a cold yet gentle voice reverted inside the whole room. It was the Dragon king; Augustus, Lyle’s father.
Lyle was currently inside Augustus’s study room. While he was training in the courtyard a while ago, Sasha came and told him that his father was calling him.
“No father.”
Lyle answered him patiently with a calm face. Seeing his son’s behavior Augustus couldn’t help but sigh. ‘We are father and son yet why are we talking with so much formality’ he thought.
“Lyle, no need to be so formal, we are not in the throne room. Sit down first and I’ll tell you” Augustus gestured Lyle to sit at the sofa beside his desk.
Without further ado, Lyle smiled and followed. Lyle sat on the sofa while his father served tea on the table.
Augustus cleared his throat “This year, you’ve become 12, right?”
Lyle nodded politely. Six years have passed since he first gotten his status plate and in this six years he have matured a lot.
Augustus sighed. He looked at Lyle but this time he smiled calmly. He stood up, and went to a bookshelf located beside the door. He took a book out of it and opens it. Inside, was a piece of paper, he took it and gave it to him.
“This is?”
“A recommendation letter”
“For what?”
“For school! From now on I want you to enter Red Rose Academy!”
“School?” Lyle said, trying to remember. “Red Rose Academy?”
Augustus nodded. “You know that Belphim continent is consisted by Four Kingdoms, right?” I nodded. “Between these four powerful Kingdoms lies the Academy city called
“Then why don’t we make a school here in our Kingdom?” Lyle said, trying to sound upbeat.
“There are two Reasons” he answered. “First is because isn’t it better to also learn from the other Kingdom? You see, each Kingdom has their own specialties in combat, culture and such. To have a single school that teaches everything from the other Kingdom isn’t better? It makes students that came from different places to learn so much.
And the second is, it was made supposedly as a symbol of peace. Although I don’t think it really has its definitive meaning because even though it exists, there are still kingdoms that are still scheming behind each other’s back.” Augustus said firmly.
“I see, but why do I still need to go to school? I don’t think I need it. I’m already strong though, if it comes to knowledge I think I’m better than those teachers in the academy!”
Lyle told him, though his voice choked up a little when he said he’s better than the teachers. Although it’s a little bit boastful when he said it but his voice held conviction on it. This world which has an ancient medieval Europe concept on it cannot be compared to the modern world Lyle came from. So his confidence doesn’t just came from nowhere and not just literally baseless.
Listening to his son’s boasting, Augustus can’t help himself but felt proud. From his perspective it might just only a baseless boasting, but watching this son of his who always do things beyond his expectations and comprehension, he couldn’t get himself to underestimate him any further and could only believe in him.
“I know, I know!” Augustus admitted. He stroked his chin while laughing. “But still nobles especially royalties must enter the school and get a decree and graduate. So please…”
Augustus put his hand on Lyle’s shoulders while smiling. Lyle, seeing his father’s expectant eyes, could only nod. “Fine, although I don’t want to go, because you’re the one asking me father, then I have no reason to refuse!”
Pleased by Lyle’s answer, Augustus put his arm around Lyle. From Lyle’s attitude, if anybody; obviously except girls especially beautiful women, had tried that, Lyle would’ve pushed him away already or worst, kick him with a yakuza-style kick, but it was his own father. Augustus hugged him whether he like it or not.
“Thank you, son!” Augustus said. “Now that you already agree to it, can you please explain it to your mom? I don’t think she’ll let you go, you know that she love you so much. If I’m the one who will explain it, she’ll likely, no surely rip my head out of me.” a shadow passed over Augustus face. Seeing his father’s wary and frightened face, Lyle thought that it isn’t just a joke more like a grave premonition. His girly face soften and let out a smile, he sighed and looked at his father while nodding.

‘*sigh* I always thought that father has the leash but I think I need to rethink it again’ he mused.
“Always be careful out there, okay!” he sniffled. He hugged Lyle so much that he almost cracked his ribs. “I love you son! I’m proud of you and always will be. Now go, and give your school a scare of their lifetime”
Lyle tried to nod confidently, but then a sudden thought occurred to him.
“Father!” he called. “Can I request something?”
Bewildered by his son’s sudden question, He asked. “What is it?”
“If I enter the school, please let me hide my identity.”
“Why? I don’t think it’s really necessary for you to hide it!” Augustus asked curiously.
“Let’s just say, it’s more fun and interesting that way!” Lyle smirked. Hearing this, Augustus smiled. For a moment Augustus eye’s seemed sparkling while looking at his son.
‘It’s because it’s more fun and interesting? Hahaha to hide his own status just because of this, really this son of mine!’ Augustus thought while fighting his urge to laugh. He felt excited hearing those words; he thought just how far can his son go?
************
Late at night, Lyle went to his mother’s room to visit her, as well as tell her about going to school. he told her he wants to study in the
Listening quietly on his son, Ileana laced her fingers around her tea. She was wearing a pink colored nightgown, and her beautiful golden hair was tied back. Recently she was gotten busy reading various documents and Lyle could tell that she’d been working on it late into the night, because the circles under her eyes were darker than usual, though it doesn’t regress her beauty even a little.
Ileana took a deep breath, like she was thinking how tell him no and stop him.
“My son, you’re still too young to leave the kingdom. I’m sorry but I won’t allow it!” she said.
“Please mom, I know it’s dangerous but you should know how powerful I am. I can protect myself, and if you’re still anxious there is still Sasha. Without any doubt, even if I ask her to stay, she will follow me secretly.”
“But son, you don’t know how dangerous outside of the kingdom!” she shook her head. “Can you wait until your 15 then I can ----“
“Mom, please! I want to learn and experience new things. I want to see the world with my own two eyes” Lyle put his hand over his mother “Mom, I promise I will never, ever do anything dangerous! I will always be careful, so please ….”
Ileana stared at him. She looked liked she was trying not to cry.
“Fine!” Ileana finally agreed, although her eyes were beet red. “You must promise me that you will always remain safe, okay?... if someone tried to bully you, you must tell me immediately. I will rip them to pieces no matter who they are…”
“I promised although you are worrying too much!” Lyle said. “Do you have no confidence towards your genius and handsome son?” he said jokingly.
“Of course I have! You’re my only genius son that I’m proud of” She smiled after hearing that. “So, when are you going?”
“Tomorrow morning!” he answered. “I plan to explore some place I've read in the books before I go to the school”
“That’s too soon” she muttered. Although she was reluctant she has no choice but to agree. She loves her son too much and don’t want to see him get depressed. A very definition of a doting mother. Surely if Lyle says he wants something then no doubt she would get it for him even if it means fighting a war. That’s how much she loves him.
She stood up and gave Lyle a hug. Lyle tried not to feel like he was saying good bye so he gave her a smile and kiss her on the cheeks.
