After having dinner with his grandfather, Johan talked to him for a while and then decided to leave. The one thing that was on his mind was the book he had seen in the library.
'Bahamut, how do I get the book without causing any suspicions?'
YOU COULD LET ME OUT. WHEN YOU'RE ABOUT TO LEAVE I WILL GET INTO THE ROOM AND SNAP THE BOOK.
'Wait what? You will go through the barrier?'
YEAH, I CAN YOU SOME OF MY POWERS THAT I GOT BACK A BIT AGO. IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT. THE MAGIC IN THIS WORLD ISN'T THAT DIFFICULT TO MASTER.
'Well, if you think you can manage to do it, then go ahead and show you're master what you're capable of.'
AS YOU WISH, MY LORD.
Johan went to the bathroom and let go of Bahamut. The dragon came out even more beautiful than before. His outer appearance improved by a lot. The scales had a shininess to them but now there was a golden hue which made him appear even more elegant than before.
'Wow! You look so... majestic.'
I KNOW, I KNOW I'M AWESOME. JUST SAY IT.
'Aight bro. Get it going.'
Bahamut left the bathroom. His body went through the door as if it didn't exist.
'Bro, how much do I not know about Bahamut? I didn't even receive a system message that he levelled up.'
He left afterwards as well and said goodbye to the patriarch. While he was doing that, the dragon went to the hidden library and looked for the book. Something seemed strange to him. The atmosphere had a bitter taste to it. Almost like something was ruining the usual fragrance a library would omit.
'Hmm, weird. Where is this coming from?'
Bahamut moved a bit more careful this time. When he arrived at the place where the Light Manual was placed, a shadow moved away.
'Huh? What was that? It sure seemed faster than anything I've observed in this world.'
He stood still and focused on one point to catch if something was moving. He did that for a couple of seconds, before he saw from the right corner of his eye, a little squirrel-like animal with pure white fur run across the room to a different corner. Since he only caught a glimpse of it, it seemed like something black but in closer observation it was white.
'Got you.'
Bahamut jumped from his place and in a second he stopped the furry animal form running any further.
DON'T MOVE. IF YOU DO, YOU'RE DEAD.
"Squuiiiik."
It stopped immediately and looked the dragon in his eyes. Fear. That was the only thing it felt. No being able to move, it tried to talk.
"Hmm... I... please don't... kill me."
"Oh, you can talk?"
"Yes. Yila... can talk."
"Yila? That's your name? Well, tell me what you're doing here?"
"... Light... book. I am... protector."
'Protector? Wait... is the book...?'
He jumped to the book and took it out of the shelf. He couldn't see much other than the content that was there when he took a look at it earlier. After running through the pages, he realised that there had to be more to it than just the basic overlay.
Stolen content warning: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.
"... I... can help."
Yila dashed to him and jumped on the shelf. It looked a little curious at what he was doing.
"Help? I see. Since you're the protector of the book, you obviously know what it actually contains."
"Yes."
Bahamut put the book back into the shelf.
pfuuuush
When it touched the book and said certain words, the book opened up at a certain page. From one moment to the other, the normal pages turned into golden ones. Bahamut took a glance at the page and saw a language he hadn't seen before.
'Probably from Mythra.'
He tried encoding some of it but currently he couldn't remember the language.
"I know... I can... teach."
"Well, we can do that later. Now I need to go back. Are you going to come with me?"
"..."
The creature looked at him confused.
"My master is waiting for me. I will take this manual with me."
It jumped immediately towards the dragon and smiled at him.
"I... go, too."
"Sure, sure, Let's get going then."
Both of them left the library and caught up with Johan. He was already driving away but since Bahamut could fly, he did exactly that. He flew over fields and cities with his new little friend. When he arrived at the pent house, Johan was already there, being well welcomed by his maids.
...
"Ew. Why did we bring her here with us?"
Soya was sitting cross legged in front of the cat-girls frozen body. Even though they had been in their new hideout for a day now, she was still frozen to the bone. Hannah's ability was insane.
"Shut up, albino. Nobody told you to give your opinion about the bosses decision."
"What?? You little-"
"Stop, both of you."
Hannah looked at them with a disappointed look.
"We don't have time to be playing around like this. I brought her here so we can ask her questions about the plan they have. Let her unfreeze and until then go do something productive."
Immediately everybody in the room became quite. Nobody dared to say anything. They knew what she was saying was true.
Hannah grabbed her device and connected it to Johan's.
...
"Lord Johan!!!!"
A lot of the maids came outside to greet their master. Some were still inside preparing food.
"Lord Johan, how did your trip go?"
Videl also came out to see him.
"Good, good. Very interesting. How are the maids doing? Is the training going well?"
"Yes, master. All of them are getting along and the training has been very useful."
"Alright. Then let's go in. I have to go to the training facility at night. There is something I have to finish. Also I already ate at grandparent's house so just tell everybody to enjoy their food."
"As you wish."
...
After talking to his servants, Johan went to the facility immediately. He couldn't wait to find out what the booklet was about. From what it seemed, the patriarch didn't know much about it since he wasn't a Light user but for himself it was essential especially in this world where knowledge about the attribute was scarce.
'Bahamut don't make me wait, bro. Bring it out.'
Bahamut jumped out of a corner and presented himself in front of his master.
TAKE A LOOK AT IT. THIS LITTLE CREATURE IS THE PROTECTOR OF THE BOOK. ASK HIM QUESTIONS IF YOU WANT TO.
"Hmm?"
The little guy also came forward, while looking at its surroundings curiously.
"What's that?"
"I am... protector. Let... me show."
It jumped onto Johan's arm and said something. The book did a similar reaction to previously. This time, though, Johan also had a reaction. His entire body started twitching and emitting a golden aura. It was similar to the ones that came from him when he used one of his Light abilities.
"Whaa-"
Suddenly he elevated into the air. He was flailing with his arms and calling for Bahamut to help him. He didn't, though. Yila jumped up and down on his body mid air.
"Squuuuiiiiiiq. Squiiiiiq"
With time passing by the book slowly went from changing pages here and there to completely losing any composure just like Johan. Then from one moment to the other everything stopped like somebody clicked pause.
Johan fell to the ground, while Yila landed on him.
"Oooooohh! Finally... somebody new... master."
"Huh?"
"You... are new master."
It looked at its new master with enthusiasm.
"I'm your new master? Why?"
It pointed to the book and said.
"Book... accepted... you. It belongs... to you."
Johan didn't understand what the creature was trying to say. How would a book accept him as its master?
THE BOOK SEEMS TO HAVE A SOUL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT MYSELF BUT APPARENTLY THERE ARE ITEMS WITH THEIR OWN SOULS AND IDENTITIES. SUCH AS THIS ONE. TRY TO GO THROGUH SOME PAGES.
He opened up the book and went through its content. It was written in some ancient language but he somehow understood its content. There were basic things written about elements and attributes. When he was almost at the end, a chapter appeared to be blank. At first sight, Johan thought that it was just a printing mistake but when he touched it, a ripple effect appeared. Like when a water drop falls into a lake. He repeated it several times not understanding what to do.
"Speak... with it."
"Oh. Well, hello book?"
"... Esteemed master, Yufinella is at your service."
"Yufinella? That's... a human name, isn't it?"
"Indeed, master. I am a person. Do you wish to see me?"
"Sure."
Suddenly the book lit up and turned into light. Slowly a shape could be identified. It was an angel like being.
When the 'transformation' came to an end, Johan couldn't believe his eyes.
"Woah!"
