Dingdong
"I'm coming."
Videl was in a hurry since today was incredibly important for her. Johan was going to heal her injuries. Not only would that let her go to college but also give her a way stronger body. She hadn't even known about her decaying body.
'How did that even happen? Was it 'that' incident?'
Shaking her head she went to the door to receive the guests. When she opened the door, Rachel and Maya were standing in the front, while dozens of other maids were behind them.
"Heyyy! Videl!"
Rachel went in and gave her a big hug.
"Rach-el you're crus-hing me." Videl said with a painful expression.
"Ahh, sorry I forgot," Rachel said as she backed away. "Anyway, here are the maids you wanted to see. They've all been handpicked by Maya and myself."
"I see. Come in everybody."
Videl called them in. The girls were astonished by the sight of the penthouse. Even though all of them had seen either one of the main houses or some sort of villa before, this one was special as to because they had the chance to work here for the rest of their lives.
"Sit down, Lord Johan should be here in a moment."
Videl had prepared breakfast for everybody. All of the girls had nervous looks on their face because they knew that not everybody would taken as a maid.
"Don't worry. Just be yourself. He won't bite."
"We know." Rachel spoke to early without realizing it.
Videl looked at her suspiciously.
"How do you know?"
"Hahaha... Well, I mean you work for him so... he has to be nice, right? Aahahahaha."
Videl had the look of a mother-in-law who hated her daughter-in-law.
'She knows something a hundred percent. That... stupid idiot.'
"Hmpf."
She walked to the kitchen. The atmosphere got a little weird since nobody was coming.
On the top floor Johan was watching the girls sit down.
'What do you think, Bahamut?'
THEY'RE PRETTY DECENT, MY LORD. ESPECIALLY THESE TWO.

'Hmm, not bad. She'll be in charge as a second-in-command for the maids. Then Videl can do more training with me. Her talent is too valuable. And she's not fully healed yet.'
'What's with the other one?'

Age: 16
Attribute: Aether (Darkness)
Rank: D (S)
ATK: 24
DEF: 22
SPD: 27
MANA: 37
SPA: 1: Sorceress
2: Dark Sorceress
Ability: Very efficient mana user. Uses Aether to boost sorcery.
(Darkness user. Makes sorcery from Aether, Darkness and Mana.)
Limits: No access to Darkness element. Element is not available in this world.
(Not available? How's that possible?)
THAT'S BECAUSE THE ELEMENT IS NOT USED IN THIS WORLD. IT IS WAY HEAVIER FOCUSED ON AETHER AND MANA THAN DARNKESS OR LIGHT. OR EVEN OTHER ELEMENTS ARE NOT REALLY THAT COMMON. IT ALL STARTS WITH AN ELEMENT GETTING POPULAR IN COMBAT AND THEN EVERY OTHER ELEMENT GETS LESS AND LESS AVAILABLE. SIMPLE SUPPLY AND DEMAND. THE PROBLEM WITH DARKNESS IS THAT IT HAS BEEN BANNED ALMOST EVERYWHERE IN THIS WORLD BECAUSE OF ITS TERRIFYING POWER. NOT EVEN LIGHT USERS CAN COME CLOSE IN SPECIAL CASES LIKE SORCERY, MAGIC AND POISON.
IT IS UNUSUAL THOUGH THAT SHE HAS IT. I CANNOT ACCESS ANY MORE INFORMATION. WE SHOULD BE CAREFUL BUT SHE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME ANOTHER SHADOW SLAVE.
'That could be interesting. Somebody who has a banned element. Anyways I gotta go.'
...
Johan used a little Light power to make him sparkle and jumped in front of the girls.
Swoosh
"Woah! You almost gave me a heart attack!"
Rachel jumped from her place.
"Well, young ladies, here is your long awaited Lord."
He winked at them and then put his arms behind his back, like he was some kind of aristocrat.
"I see that you have made yourselves comfortable in this home. But let me warn you that this is not a guaranteed place for you to stay forever."
The girls sat straight in their chairs.
"But behold, this is not a place to be worried about anything. I just need you to do some simple things and then I'll decide who can stay here. Videl has prepared some stations. Follow her."
Videl who was standing in the door watching the girls get nervous, came forward and guided them through various stations she made to check out their abilities. She only did that though so Johan could examine something of them. He didn't tell her what exactly but that was not her business anyways. The only thing that mattered was the fact that she got some good maids for him.
'I think they're all good. I mean not that I intended to reject any of them. They all will be useful in some way or another.'
HIs plan was to make a group of strong maids who would train along side him while he would use his abilities to boost their abilities. Over time they would surpass their potential and become way stronger than the average Ranker.
The only problem was that they weren't enough. The maids all were very low level and the only one with some potential was Laura. She had to break her element barrier first though which he had no idea how long it would take. Bahamut had given him some advice though. There was going to be a tournament soon, with many people coming from all over the country, where he could look for talents who didn't have strong families or clans, and offer them positions in the family.
Other than that there were gates he could visit and meet some Rankers there. Usually gates had a lot of people participating who were fighting for levelling materials and rare items that would help their ranking up process. It is weird thing if one is from a rich family because then there is almost no contact to the 'normal' world.
...
"Girls, I spoke to Videl and it seems that the results are out."
The girls were so nervous that they didn't notice him casually calling them 'girls'.
"All of your results were good but some lacked... a maids intuition so to say. Nonetheless I will be taking all of you in. You can live here and eat here. Videl will show you around. Rachel you will be in charge of the whole group because you have the most experience. Also everything that happens in this house stays here."
The girls looked at him surprised and then nodded. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Most maids would work for smaller families or end up as freelancers.
"Okay, okay." Rachel confirmed for them.
"Very good. Now get it going, this Lord has stuff to do."
...
Videl arrived in front Johan's room as agreed upon.
knock knock
"Come in."
Videl opened the door and saw Johan sitting on the ground. In front of him was towel folded on the ground.
"Sit."
"Ye-es." she said nervously.
She sat down cross legged and stared at the wall. Her palms were sweating.
"Did you put on the bandages, I told you to put on?"
"Yes, my Lord."
"Good. I will now heal your body. Here is an item you will swallow down. It will strengthen the core."
Videl took the item and looked at it. A little pearl-like ball with liquid inside of it was sitting on her hand.
Gulp
She swallowed it at ones. Johan was putting Light inside her body. His hands were on her back and light was emerging from them.
After an hour passed, Johan removed his hands. He collapsed immediately. The choice of doing this at night wasn't smart but the pearl had higher effectiveness under moonlight. It was because of the liquid.
Videl was also exhausted because the pill slowly started repairing the core. It let out massive amounts of energy which made little cuts in her body. Johan's Light ability healed it though.
"Lo-rd Jo-han. Wake up. Hah."
"Hmm, don't worry about me. I'll be fine. Lie down on the bed over there."
Both of them fell asleep.
...
Lord Thimauess von Parseval was standing in front of an A level gate. It was one he hadn't visited before. Usually he would do S ranked ones because the others were too easy but this one was different. Not only did it contain poison resistant items but it was also the highest ranked one there was. He was a little worried because of his injuries. That didn't stop him from going in. He had gone through a lot more than that in his years living as a Ranker.
He looked at his phone a last time. The screen flickered on. He saw the last message one more time and left for the gate. It said:
SOON THIMAUESS WON'T BE ANYMORE
