Sam's Apartment
The lunch was delicious as always. Astra was a talented cook. She learned her skills from the castle's head chef and it showed.
"So, we are to pick up the modules by four. Is there something that everyone would like to try out?" Sam asked in between his food.
"I want to try and check out the artefact stores," Maya said. "I only received two spells too. Maybe I should buy a skill scroll."
"You won't need more skills for now. Say the money for later." Sam said. The healers were always safe behind the party's tank. With two tanks in the party, Maya couldn't die unless it's a party wipe.
Skill tomes were digital skill books that could be purchased to learn new skills from the game world. These were permanent items and could be used indefinitely. A skill scroll on the other hand is a single-use item.
"I can't accompany you either way. I plan on designing a few magic circles before we enter the game world." Sam while getting up to wash his hands. Dona and Justin tried to fill their stomach as much as they could. Their metabolism was too high.
"Well, in that case, I will try and read some guides about the beginning quests," Maya said, helping Astra with the plates.
"Hey, Sam, give me your card will you?" Jim asked. Sam had a royalty card for all purchases within the dukedom thanks to his family. It meant up to a 20% reduction in the cost of purchase. The merchant's low this too since this was a good advertisement for them.
"You want to get yourself killed? Sam asked back. "It's not like anyone knows you. Who's gonna find out?" It was a capital offence to try and impersonate a member of another noble family. "Like last time when you tried to flirt with that chick? You aren't throwing my name in the mud again." The girls started laughing as if remembering the incident.
"Fine, it's not as if I can't afford them on my own," Jim said before leaving the house.
"Do you want me to follow?" Dona asked with meat still stuck in her mouth. "Please do. He sucks when dealing with those cronies." Sam said leaving towards his room with Astra in his tail.
"Are you free now?" Sam asked Astra sitting standing beside his design table. There was a transparent hologram floating on it. Picking up his stylus Sam concentrated on the outer layers of the circle. "I've nothing to do." Astra stood beside him helping him draw. With Astra by his side, Sam knew he could complete the circle without too many errors.
"Fire element? Area attack?" Astra asked, looking at the familiar pattern. "Shouldn't you be at least tier 3 to competently use this design?" Astra asked curiously.
"It's not a flame spell. It's a heat spell. I was trying to replicate the water prison spell." Sam slowly completed the outer circle and proceeded to work on the inner circle. The circle construction was hard. It required one to complete it on one stretch. Spending days on construction of their tier spells were common. If it were legendary spells even a tier 1 would take a week.
After two hours of audacious effort, Sam was finally able to complete his magic circle. "Don't worry, it will be easier in the game. You won't have to physically draw it there." Sam smiled at Astra saying, "I hope so." The magic circle he drew slowly dissipated as the hologram turned back transparent.
"It's almost time. Shouldn't we go get our modules?" Jim was already back from his shopping. He had bought two skill tomes each for critical strike boost.
The modules were Terminals suited for single use. It was a slightly modified virtual cabin with superior life support and cryogenic support. The wrath of the system stood as an extreme deterrence to anyone who tried to break it. The golden-coloured brand name 'Yoto' reminded us of the golden age of technology.
Today Yoto is completely run by machines and the AI, 'Yoto', that took over the world. Yoto found a new purpose in its existence after wiping out ninety per cent of human life. He, ahh yes it is male according to the developers, became the system's assistant when the overpowered system took over the world.
They received their modules 'home delivered' by a bunch of academy staff. After hovering for a few minutes for installation, they left the place, leaving our heroes excited.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"Where should we start?" Jim asked, eager to enter the module.
"Jester Wildlands," Sam said as he opened the module. While he entered inside he saw the others entering their modules as well. He felt his body stiffen as he was soon carried away to another world.
"Welcome back Samuel Valerie." The system girl appeared before him. "Where wo…" "Jester Wildlands," Sam said, interrupting the system.
"Please get ready for initial spawn." Sam felt a little delay and soon was placed on solid ground. His sight returned slowly as a settlement became visible in front of his eyes.
"Updating respawn point." He heard a sound in his head as Sam immediately checked his profile and status bringing up the interface.

"Sam", he heard someone call his name from behind. The rest of the party were slowly spawning in. "Dona." Sam walked towards his friends to greet them.
Looking at the endless wasteland in front of them, she asked, "now what?"
