C53-Weight Of Profession

C53-Weight Of Profession

Alright, Jasper’s got this covered… so I GUESS…

Would you like a tutorial for the professions system?

…Yes.

Congratulations on reaching level ten! From now on all subsequent new characters will immediately have professions unlocked when they are created!

…Subsequent characters? What, were there character slots that I missed or something? Eh-whatever, keep reading.

A new menu has been unlocked in your character page.

Alrighty, is it gonna-yup, big flashing arrow. Lemme just… boop!

Welcome to the professions menu! Professions allow you to create your own items with varying abilities based on the quality of the materials used and your own proficiency level.

Mmm, creating your own stuff from scratch is fairly unique, but other than that par for the course?

From now on, upon defeating an enemy, their body will no longer vanish and can instead be harvested for relevant materials!

Whhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaa… o-kay, sure, let’s just roll that bombshell into an optional tutorial. Good thing I decided to uh, read this! Really allowing us our freedom of gameplay here Omniscient! I’m docking a point for that one.

There are a total of eight professions. Butchering, Cooking, Fishing, Scribing, Alchemy, Woodworking, Blacksmithing, and Leatherworking. Gathering materials and crafting items related to a profession will result in gaining experience in that profession. The maximum level for each profession for an individual without training or a class related to it is fifty.

So like, gonna say what each of those professions relate to exactly or-

To learn more about a specific profession, tap on the icon relating to it.

Aight. My bad.

In order to craft an item, you need to have the appropriate environment to do so. Conditions may vary depending on what exactly is being created, such as requiring a fire to simply grill a steak, but an oven to bake cookies.

…Odd example, but okay.

Please note that the interpretation of the correct environment is vast! The requirements are generous, and if you think it will work, it likely will! That is all the basic information regarding professions. Please continue to enjoy your experience in Omniscient!

Well that was weird. Is this like, archaic or something? Early development placeholder they never removed? I guess it’s launch week, so… eh, kind of left a bad taste in my mouth to be honest.

Well… might as well see what they do I suppose. Wouldn’t be good to just ignore an entire system because it wasn’t dressed up.

Let’s start with… a classic, blacksmithing.

Blacksmithing-LVL 1

Blacksmithing is the gathering of ores and the crafting of weapons and armor.

Gain experience by gathering ores and crafting various items.

In order to craft items related to this profession, a forge is required.

Okay, pretty basic. How aboooooouuuut, Scribing?

Scribing-LVL 1

Scribing is the creation of accessories and artifacts.

Gain experience by using various materials while crafting, the rarer the better.

In order to craft items related to this profession, a forge is required.

So like, what, I could make myself a ring? Why’s it called scribing and not jeweling then…? Whatever, next profession!

Butchering-LVL 1

Butchering is the gathering of materials from deceased enemies.

Gain experience by looting various monsters.

This profession has no items to craft.

Uh huh. So, when it says “looting”, I’m hoping the process is automatic, cause like, I really don’t wanna take a knife to a monster's guts and have them spill out on me…? Uh, moving on.

Cooking-LVL 1

Cooking is the creation of meals of all shapes and sizes.

Gain experience by creating various different meals.

Different requirements are needed for specific items, but most can be created with an open flame.

I mean, yeah, that makes sense. Valid, one could say? Y’know what, I’m just gonna rapid fire through the rest of these real quick…

Fishing-LVL 1

Fishing is the process of catching creatures from the water.

Gain experience through fishing up various creatures in different ways.

This profession has no items to craft.

Alchemy-LVL 1

Alchemy is the creation of consumables, both negative and positive.

Gain experience by gathering ingredients and creating many different items.

Different requirements are needed for specific items, but most can be created with an Alchemist’s Toolkit.

Leatherworking-LVL 1

Leatherworking is the process of refining and using various different materials.

Gain experience by refining parts from monsters and gathered materials, as well as creating various pieces of equipment

This profession does not need a station to craft most items, but equipment will often require finer tools such as a loom.

Woodworking-LVL 1

Woodworking is the process of gathering and refining wood into various tools.

Gain experience by gathering various kinds of wood, as well as refining it into different shapes and tools.

In order to craft items related to this profession, a workbench is required.

Aaaaaand, thus marks the end of the gauntlet! I can’t speak on all of these quite yet, buuuuuuuuuuut, if these take too long to level up, I will genuinely ignore this entire system that is just too much to bother with. No concrete achievement to go for? Sorry buddy, my attention span is shot.

I mean, if they don’t take eight years to get one level in, I’ll probably max everything out, but I’m not gonna spend months just to max out one category. Anyways, that’s the tutorial done! Yippee yahoo-

“Jasper are you done yet?”

“Mmmmm?”

Her head swivels towards me, a completely still rat held in her jaws.

+5 exp!

“Uh huh… Still having a go at it then?”

“Mhm!”

“...You having fun there?”

“Mh-...Mmm?”

She then proceeds to drop the dead thing, the dead… the dead thing… why is it dead? No, wait sorry, why is not disappearing?

Jasper seems to be equally as bewildered, staring at the dead rat with mounting dismay.

Is that dismay? She looks a bit… zoned out.

“Everything alright?”

“...”

The rats scurrying about the place simply stop. Well, they’re all phantom rats now, Jasper did a massacre of epic proportion, cleaned up the rest of the filth real nicely, but y’know, said filth has now stopped.

If you find this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the infringement.

In fact I don’t think I see a single one of the normal rats around still… but they could also just blend into the crowd pretty easily. Well, either way, it’s dealt with. And uh, what’s my total experience?

355/1367

Right. Well then, suppose that’s all the experience we’ll be getting… so I can just…

Mmm… I consider chucking Screech away like I would a sword bound for my inventory, only for a moment, mind, but I do believe that would be quite mean for no good reason.

Sweet dreams little Mrs troublemaker.

[Recall]

Now…

“Seriously, you alright?”

She’s just standing there, slack jawed, staring fish-eyed at the rat she just dropped to the ground.

“Uh… I get the body not disappearing is riveting, but surely not to that degree?”

“...”

“...”

“M-mmm…”

Oh good god FINALLY she says something, was worried about a catatonic cat for a second there!

“You good? Not quite sure what’s boggling your mind right now, but you certainly seem a little distressed.”

I do my best not to pry into others' business, so I was just turning a blind eye to it but… whatever just happened rattled her pretty good. And as far I saw, she was just mauling rodents like any good feline creature should.

“M-mmm… mhm.”

“...Will it get in the way of anything?”

“Mm-mm.”

…Then there’s no need for me to pry.

“...Anyways, did you level up? I’m aware you had a great time, but-”

“...”

“My bad. I’m aware you…”

I’m… gonna go ahead and think better of that quip before I make it.

“-Killed a lot of the scourge, and you should’ve gotten at least five hundred or so experience overall, so… did you level up?”

“Mhm.”

“Great, points in and everything?”

“Mhm.”

“...Right.”

Well she’s no fun right now. I say that as a bad thing, by the way. Even if her usual fun is being a mildly snarky schmuck. That’s preferable to… whatever this is. Well, whatever. So, what’s her stat page look like?

Wild Hunt’s Mark LVL 2-Strike an enemy with a powerful blow dealing 250% of the users base physical damage. Apply the debuff “Wild Hunt’s Mark”, which increases damage received from the user and their party members by 25% for 15 seconds. Every time an individual deals 10% of the casters max HP to an enemy afflicted with Wild Hunt’s Mark, the individual recovers 1 MP. Costs 10 MP.

Trappings Of Magic LVL 1-Activate a barrier around the caster that automatically converts any magical attacks of a certain tier and below that hit the caster into their own magic. The caster may then redirect them at will. These spells count exclusively as the casters own damage, but will still scale off of the stats of the original individual who casted the spell. Costs 10 MP, 10 minute cooldown.

Phantom Assailant-Conjure an identical copy of the user within 15 meters of themselves. The copy acts according to the users will and is capable of using any of their skills at double the MP cost of the user themselves, barring Phantom Assailant. The copy remains for thirty seconds, but remains for an extra second for every 10% of the clones max HP dealt as damage to any target. Any MP gained by the copy from either “Wild Hunt’s Mark” or “Wild Hunt’s Call” returns to the original caster. Only one copy may exist at a time. Costs 15 MP.

Wild Hunt’s Call LVL 3-If an enemy has been killed within the past five minutes and the caster dealt at least 25% of the enemies max HP, the enemy can be summoned as a mindless phantom under the command of the caster retaining 50% of its original stats, 20% if the enemy was a “boss” enemy. Every 20% of the casters max HP that a phantom deals to any enemy will grant 1 MP to the caster. Any phantoms will be lost after thirty minutes of existence. Phantoms do not count as “unique individuals”. Costs 5 MP.

Hunter’s Pursuit-Instantly teleport a short distance of up to five meters in any direction. Alternatively, switch places with a summoned phantom or a phantom assailant copy. Costs 10 MP.

Passives

Echoes of The Wild Hunt-Enemies struck by any skills related to the “Wild Hunt Lynx” class will be afflicted with “Echoing Pursuit”, which lasts for three seconds. Once afflicted with Echoing Pursuit, any attack will deal 5% more damage and extend the timer of the skill by one second, as well as increasing damage vulnerability by another 5%, up to a maximum of 50%. Echoing Pursuit is 90% less effective against “boss” enemies.

Reality Shift-If the user would otherwise be killed by an attack, automatically activate Phantom Assailant in place of themselves and Hunter’s Pursuit a short distance away. If the user does not have enough MP to activate both skills, Reality Shift will not activate. If the maximum amount of Phantom Assailants are already active, bypass the maximum cap and create another. 24 Hour cooldown.

Uh huh, uh huh, all as usual, leveled up [Wild Hunt’s Call] nice, nice, got a new skill… got a new skill? Got a new skill???

[Trappings Of Magic]...

Okay, cool, so in other words… perfectly reflect magic however they see fit? Not even reflecting, it just becomes their own attack. They can literally use it however they see fit??? I guess they can’t just i-frame anything, because… you know, that’d be ridiculous, and it also probably doesn’t last that long, plus the ten minute cooldown means it’s basically a once per fight thing…

But still, absolute nullification-not even that, absolute redirection is still crazy. Good skill choice Jasper!

…Shame she’s still being a grump and I don’t think it’d be wise to tell her that right now.

“...Do you want to go in the inventory?”

“Mhm.”

Personally I’d be a little bit more joyous with a skill like that up my sleeve.

[Recall].

Now… to put my points in-

Ah. I see. Is this the fabled, uh… I dunno I don’t have a joke here-is this the fabled level ten giving you literally everything holy shit!?

Bring unto me these bad boys, whilst I stand here alone in this clearing, amidst hordes and hordes of… dead rats. Because their bodies, are no longer disappearing.

I really hope looting them makes them go away.

Pppppppppppppfffffffffffff, worries for later! Gacha time!

LET’S GO GAMBLING!
