Chapter 6 “Feast”
The tiny snake was facing a big problem: Snakes swallow their prey. It stared at the freshly dead corpse, which looked like a giant coin. They can’t simply take a bite out of it nor swallow something that is by far several times bigger than itself.
In its past life, the tiny snake had seen what happens to its bigger brethren when they were too greedy, eating something like an alligator, resulting in them bursting open. What a shuddering fate! One which the snake had no desire to recreate!
So, of course, the fabulous tiny snake had a brilliantly devious idea before it went into battle. Now it simply had to wait patiently and took the opportunity to take in the scenery as it was sitting on its hunting trophy, now makeshift raft.
On one side, an endless calm deep blue, covered by a clear, light blue sky and a mercilessly burning sun; on the other, not far, a landmass. The snake had no desire to venture on land just yet, uninterested, redirecting its gaze to the calm ocean surface.
*swoosh*
A strong wind blew, and a giant shadow covered the sun for a split second. The tiny snake reflexively looked up, seeing a giant bird-like creature soaring through the sky. Instead of being petrified by its imposing presence, the white snake was fascinated, and excitement welled up in its tiny body.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Invigorated, overflowing with motivation, it dove into the water, and as it had planned, all kinds of fish had gathered around the dead Sunfish, ripping out chunks of its flesh. Even some of the surviving Glup fish joined the buffet, having already forgotten their admiration for their wannabe mother.
The fish, mindlessly obsessed with the free food before them, did not realize the trap they had willingly swam right into.
25 exp gained! 25 exp gained!
5 exp gained!
The tiny mastermind easily snatched away a bigger fish, who had eaten a piece of the coin-shaped corpse. Upon devouring the shameless food thieve, it gained not just the usual amount of exp but an additional 5. That, of course, did the tiny snake expect to happen, as it had previously experimented with the Gulp fish with the question in mind, “Do I get the exp from what the fish had eaten?”
After some trial and error, it got an answer: Partially yes, it would gain exp, but the amount was halved and would decline with each passing minute.
But as the tiny snake wasn’t able to get any exp anyway, as it was not big enough to eat it, this was a great deal for it. So it decided to use the Sunfish as bait to easily catch more fish and, in the process, get some exp from the Sunfish’s corpse.
As this was a race against time, the tiny snake rolled up its imaginary sleeves and began to claim its fruitful bounty.
