Chapter 5 “Foolish Parent”

The Sunfish’s motherly instincts kicked in as it saw the tiny white snake desperately swim towards it with a slightly bigger fish, hungry for some snack, on its tail.

Bravely, it stirred right between the two, successfully preventing the tiny snake of its certain doom, or that’s at least what it thought.

In reality, the tiny snake pissed off the bigger fish on purpose, making it chase it right in front of the now easily manipulatable and emotionally vulnerable Sunfish. What a vicious yet effective plan the tiny innocent playing snake cooked up.

Angrily, the bigger fish complained to the Sunfish, stating the truth of the incident, but as the Sunfish looked into the big, pure eyes of the snake, it knew that it would never do such a mean thing as insult another sea-living creature.

Never!

Confidently believing in the snake’s innocence, it shooed off the wrongly accused bigger fish, who, enraged by this injustice, swam away into the unknown depths before being swallowed by another even bigger fish, who casually took its morning stroll.

O what a fatal mistake this was!

As the Sunfish thought it had found a new replacement for its vanished replacements, out of nowhere, its breathing grew heavier. Staggering by the sudden change in oxygen, it’s big, round body started to turn sideways.

Slowly nearing the water surface, with its eye, it looked at the snake, who was sitting on the upper side, right next to its gills. For a moment, it was relieved that the tiny snake was safe and sound, but that changed as, in pure disbelief, the trusting Sunfish realized that its gills were shut, blocked by a weak amount of pressure from the water around them.

The Sunfish’s instincts told it that this was the adorable tiny snakes doing, but its heart fought against this cruel realization. As the Sunfish always did, it denied the harsh reality of life, even in its last moments, which stretched into a long, atrocious torture as it slowly suffocated.
