Chapter 4 “A Parent’s Love”

Tactical retreat!

The tiny snake was not yet strong enough to set its secret plan into motion, and so it decided to do what every proper tiny snake would: Farming exp!

But this was not all there was to it; the snake smiled mischievously and hissed, “Let’s thin them out first~”

It retreated back into the tunnel and, like its last victim did, waited patiently in the dark until its next prey would appear.

*Glup*

15 exp gained! 15 exp gained!

*Glup?*

15 exp gained! 15 exp gained! …

Days of wringing and devouring the Glup fish, as the tiny snake decided to call them, came to an end.

Level up!

10→12

With the increase in exp needed for further level-ups, the Glup fish was no longer a reliable source. In addition to its rapid decline in population, its days as a beginner-friendly farming method came to an end.

But the first steps to the snake’s plan were successfully and without much trouble fulfilled.

“Now to the tricky part~” it hissed cheerfully, slithering towards the open sea.

***

The Sunfish was no stranger to the grief of losing one of its derpy little kids; of course, the Glup fish weren’t its biological children, but this did not matter to it, who was overflowing with motherly love.

But this “love” was and will never be as strong as it was for its deceased child. Truly, a sad way to bury its deep grief after losing its only biological child when it was still as small as these fish. Unknowingly, it used these poor, innocent, and intelligently challenged fish as replacement for this long-dead child.

So even if it stung in its heart when one of them died, it never reached the pain it felt back then. But this didn’t change the fact that the Sunfish was worried that its dead child’s replacements declined as days went by.

Making it deeply concerned, of course, for the safety of its adopted children and not the fact that its emotional troubles slowly resurfaced, which it strongly denied the existence of.

As it now swam all alone through the big, wide ocean, looking for its cute Glup fish instead of facing its traumatizing memories of the moment when its child died right before its eyes, eaten in one fell swoop by some passerby fish, it encountered a terrified tiny snake slithering for its dear life.
