The Adventurers Guild

The Adventurers Guild

“Ah, finally I can see the walls of Nervil. Home sweet home,” Tobias says with glee.

“What’s with the line at the gate?” Delphi asks.

“That's the inspection to make sure you're not bringing anything dangerous or illegal,” Clark answers.

“I see, we don’t have anything to worry about right?” Delphi asks with concern.

“No, no, I will handle everything. Just let me do all the talking,” Tobias says.

Upon arriving at the gate and getting in line the group is met with many stares.

“They are watching us,” Swaggle mumbles.

“Yeah, I don’t like it,” Bobbi replies

“Just be prepared, and keep your cool,” Hooknose says.

“I think that crying flesh-bag is getting ready to explode. Something that tiny can’t make that much noise,” NAVI says.

“I think that’s a baby NAVI. Oh right you wouldn’t have read about one plus your kind are different,” Delphi says.

“Either way it’s louder than Swaggle and just put me off having kids,” Bobbi says.

“That kid deserves a medal,” Hooknose chuckels.

“Halt! We have been expecting you, master Tobias, but not with your current company. And where are the men you left with?” A guard askes as the group approaches the gate.

“Well you see I had a bit of trouble and they weren't up to the task and sadly perished. Luckly this fine gentlemen, a Mastersmith Hooknose and his companions that he is in charge of saved me and escorted me back to town. We even brought back the deceased and two captive bandits to hand over to you,” Tobias says.

“Oh, let’s see these bandits then,” The guard says.

“Master Swaggle if you would be so kind as to give these men the prisoners.” Tobias says.

“Uhh, yeah, sure. Come on you two it’s finally time to die,” Swaggle says leading two men bound in rope towards the guards.

“Jenkins, take these men to the cells and get them ready for trial charges are banditry and murder. Tobias I take it you’re going to the adventurers guild with this lot?”

“Yes, I am.” Tobias answers.

“Well, will you fill out the required paperwork for vouching and admittance while I will inspect your goods,” The guard says with a matter of fact tone.

While the goods were inspected the bodies were taken away much to Bobbi’s despair and the group was let into Nervil with only minor suspension.

“Clark, take the goods to the warehouse. I will ride with them to the guild,” Tobias says.

“I'm being assaulted by a mixture of delicious and foul smells all at once making me sick and hungry at the same time. What is this sensation?” Swaggle says with a odd inflection.

“That would be poor city planning my friend Bakers by blacksmiths and rubbish in the alleys. The only part being planned these days is the new wealthy districts and that's because there's wealth here now,” Tobias says.

“So this is the adventurers guild. I guess it stands out a little; it's taller than most buildings,” Hooknose says with lack of enthusiasm.

“Now, now, don’t judge a book by its cover. This guild has a rich history and good standing with the people of this country better than most of its sister guilds. But I won’t go into that. It's a long story for another time and we have things to do. Tobias says getting off the wagon and ushering the group in,”

Upon entering the loud merry hall falls silent, turning its gaze on the “Mastersmith Dwarf” leading monsters into their hallowed halls. Tobias ignores all gazes and continues walking towards the front desk windows where the line backs away from out of pure curiosity. When Tobias makes it to one of the windows the young clerk, a female half-elf sheepishly speaks.

“Welcome to the Nervil Guildhall. I am Leela. How can I assist you today?”

“Oh, a new girl, well first things first my companion here would like to register then I would like to speak to the guildmaster just say Tobias is here,” Tobias says.

“I can help with the first part but I'm not sure about the second request,” Leela says.

“The guildmaster and I are old friends so yes you can help with any request I make,” Tobias says.

“I see sir please come on up here please,” Leela says in a defeated tone.

“Alright but I need to clarify something first. I want to register everyone with me except him as adventures,” Hooknose says.

“But sir those are monsters!” Leela says.

Murmured whispers begin filling the hall and the crowd begins watching more intently.

“I’m aware, do you think I'm daft?” Hooknose asks.

“No sir,” Leela replies.

“Is there a rule against it?” Hooknose asks.

“Not that I know of but some might not like it plus the church,” Leela says.

“I care not who do I need to speak with to get this done?” Hooknose says.

“I will fulfill the second request first considering your request one moment please,” Leela says leaving from behind the counter and walking up stairs.

“Minutes later a large man with unkempt black hair in a suit slightly too small for him walks down the stairs behind Leela and waves the group to walk upstairs with him.

“Tobias I will speak with you later this matter will take my full attention friend,” The tall man says.

“I understand good luck master Hooknose,” Tobias says as he begins to leave.

With bated breath and a uneasy feeling the group follows the powerful man into a secluded room atop the stairs. Inside the find a large room with a war table being used as a desk strewn with papers and the walls lined with stacked books behind the table is a large worn out chair with a blanket hanging off it.

“I would say take a seat but I am in the middle of researching something so I had them stored.

Now time for introductions my name is Gregor, I am the guild master of the Nervil adventurers guild branch and you are?” the large man with unkempt hair asks.

“I am Hooknose.”

“Swaggle!”

“Bobbi.”

“Delphi”

“Oh, and I'm NAVI!”

“Well a fairy outside a containment unit, never seen that before. And what is your relationship with these monsters Master Hooknose?”

“We all serve the Great master Kelvin; he created them,” Hooknose slightly lies.

“I see creating these monsters and summoning a fairy, this Kelvin must be quite the Warlock. I’m going to let you in on a little secret about what happened down stairs,” Gregor says.

“That would be helpful,” Hooknose replies.

“Good, all of you sit down on the floor and I will take a seat in my chair. Now that's better. Where to begin ah yes the three guilds is where. You see there are three guilds: the adventurers guild the merchants guild and the church. Your main problem is the church. They believe monsters don’t have souls and you need a soul to become an adventurer and get a class so if your companions qualified then everything the church says could be called into question. Your second problem is the merchants, they take bribes from the church and rip off adventurers on selling magical artifacts so if the church doesn't like you then those greedy bastards don’t like you. We have to deal with both because of classes that involve them and sanctions by the kingdom. So do you get where i’m coming from?” Gregor explains.

“I can’t make them adventurers then?” Hooknose says in confusion.

“Of course you can, there's no law against it, the law says as long as you have a soul it’s fine if you don’t you will die. Those arseholes have had this coming for a long time and I'm a friend of change and improvement. You're just gonna have a lot of enemies trying to kill you is all.Gregor says.”

“Nothing new there to be honest,” Hooknose says.

“That sounds like fun,” Bobbi says with lust in her voice.

“Fantastic then let's head down stairs and get this show on the road.”
