CH 49: FOUR GREAT YOKAI

*Vroom*

A car was speeding on the asphalt without care about speed limitations.

Azrael looked at the black-haired beauty that was driving an SUV as if it was a sports car. If he wasn’t a supernatural being, he would be seriously worried about his life.

“Jibril, shouldn’t you slow down a little?”

Jibril, who was driving with a maniacal smile on her face frowned a little before asking,

“Does it bother you? Compared to our flying or running speed, this is basically a crawl.”

Azrael smiled as he shook his head before looking outside,

“It’s true. Even if an accident were to happen nothing would happen. But we are disturbing the humans. I don’t like it.”

Jibril hand clenched a little as her face blanched, before slowing directly,

“I am sorry, I didn’t want to upset you.”

Azrael looked at her contrite expression from the corner of his eyes. If she was a dog, he was sure that her tail would be trailing down right now.

“*Sigh* I am not my father.”

“I know.”

The car fell in a strained silence for a few minutes before he continued,

Unauthorized usage: this tale is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

“Let’s discuss that later. Why did you want to follow me?”

The change of subject seemed to please Jibril as she smiled before saying,

“The leader of this editorial house is an old friend of mine.”

This caught Azrael’s attention. For supernatural being who could live thousands of years, the word “Old” really had greater weight,

“How old?”

“We fought together during world war 2.”

“I see. Which faction is he from? Fallen or Yokai?”

The reason he asked this was because of Jibril’s origin. Like all those in their house, she was also a hybrid. One born between a fallen angel and an Oni.

“Yokai. I won’t say more. You’ll see yourself. I am just following you to avoid any misunderstandings. This guy isn’t interested in politics and the like.”

“Ok.”

Despite slowing down, it didn’t take long for them to find the place they were searching for.

Azrael stepped out of the car and admired the street as well as the tall building that should be the place he had to reach.

Even without being told, he knew that this place wasn’t simple. The aura of many Yokai could be felt all around. They weren’t particularly powerful, but this was still scary.

“This part of the town is a neutral territory for the Yokai.”

“Neutral territory? Yokai also have factions?”

Azrael asked as he began to walk toward the building with Jibril close to him.

“Of course. Thankfully, our factions aren’t in life and death situation like the three from the bible.”

Azrael let out a bitter smile but decided to stay silent. After all, he had really nothing to argue against.

“Yasaka in the West, Nurarihyon in the Est, Shuten-Doji in the South and Sun wu kong in the North.”

Azrael memorized the name before asking,

“I can recognize the last three since they have their own myth, but what about Yasaka?”

They entered the building and walked toward an elevator as Azrael posed this question.

“It’s normal. Yasaka is a relatively young leader. Technically, she should have inherited the title of Tamamo No Mae, but she refused. Still, even without the title, she is a powerful Ultimate class Kitsune and as such is rather respected by all yokai, irrespective of their factions.”

Azrael nodded, he didn’t know her, but someone able to reject such a title but still keep the power was in no way someone simple.

It wasn’t weird for a family to force the heir to keep the name of the ancestor or something like that. It was like how all the heirs of the five clans had to forget their name and take the name of the sacred beasts.

Such actions mean that you decided to forget yourself and your own interest and live and die for the clan. That’s why inheriting the title had its set of advantages and disadvantages.

“Curious? Let me say this. Yasaka is a true bomb. Her figure isn’t inferior to mine. If you want I can help you meet her.”

“I would be thankful. But not for the reasons you think. I have one goal for this year.”

“What is it?”

Azrael smiled as the elevator finally stopped,

“Conquering the Yokai.”
