CH 19: INVESTIGATION (2)

He admired the house for a short while, it was a truly beautiful one. The kind you would find in fairy tales.

Looking at this house, it was hard to believe that cleria Belial was an evil woman. She seemed more like a kind and calm woman that would enjoy a tea will looking at her garden.

‘Then again, when Hansel and Gretel found the house made out of sugar and bread they would have never thought that they would nearly get eaten.’

The conclusion of this story was one should always be careful and never judge a book on its cover.

Just as he was about to step out of the shadow and inspect the house, he heard voices. This made him hide immediately.

*Step* *Step* *Step*

It didn’t take long for the owner of those voices to appear. He was really surprised though. He thought that he might meet devils, but never did he think that he would meet humans.

‘What are they doing here?’

He looked at the two. Even though it was night, his view was in no way impaired.

The man was a middle-aged man wearing a pair of glasses, while the woman was wearing a pointed hat on her head.

He immediately understood who they were...Magician.

‘What are magicians doing in Japan?’

While all supernatural beings were capable of learning magic and spells, only humans using that craft can be called Magicians. It is said that the current magic system used by humans was developed by Merlin Ambrosius, the legendary wizard from Arthurian legend, who studied demonic power and their magic. Humans have shown that they could become magicians by training in magic.

The magic system used by humans is categorized into two major types, Western magic and Eastern magic, the former being a system of spells and magical knowledge founded in Europe while the latter is a system of sorcery that originates in Asia; magic used by humans originates from the knowledge of Devil's demonic power and the miracles of Gods of different religions.

In short, for the most Zealous, magic was pure heresy and all magicians should be exterminated since they tried to step into a territory they should have never troddenon.

The presence of those two brought him to hide his aura completely. This wouldn’t fool someone strong, but from the way their aura flowed without control, it was clear that they were no more than low class, with the woman nearing mid-class.

Nowadays, the animosity the church had for the magicians greatly diminished. But, it didn’t mean that there was no tension. After all, it was hard to overlook the existence of all those different magician organizations. He didn’t want to reveal himself without understanding whether they were allies or enemies.

As long as those two they weren’t part of Hexennacht, which regrouped stray mage or the wizard of Oz. Then everything was alright.

He began to pay more attention to what they were saying,

---

The man was walking while smoking,

“Shit. Why does the leader want us to come to such a shit hole? We were way better at home. Don’t you think so Ser~oops, I mean, miss A?”

The woman glared at him before putting back her expression the house,

“Mister B, you know the rules. When on such a mission, using our name is forbidden.”

“Ah~Ah ah. You’re too much of a worry rat. What could happen? The devils aren’t here anymore, at least not for a while and the church is retiring from this town. Neither the five clans nor the youkai, are present in this territory. We are the strongest right now. Once we get the secret info from the basement, we get out of here and everything is alright.”

“*Sigh* Haven't you heard about death flags? Don’t Jinx us...It wouldn’t be funny if someone stronger than us suddenly appeared.”

It was when she were saying that,

“I am sorry, it seems like he really jinxed you guys.”

A voice suddenly sounded from behind them,

“Wha…”

The two of them blacked out.

----

Azrael looked at the two sprawled humans in front of him. His heart was beating fast in his heart. Despite all the training he received, and his strength, it was the first time he went in the frontline.

Those mages were without a doubt apprentice. Otherwise, they would have put some barriers around them that would activate in times of danger.

After all, magicians were famously known for their weak bodies. You could even say that the true first magic any low-class magicians really learned was a shield type magic then an escape one, before finally learning attack.

‘Now, I should work fast. Those guys should be no more than grunts sent for scouting.’

Here was the dilemma. Two choices stood before him. He could wake them up and interrogates them, but he didn’t know how loyal they were and wasn’t ready to torture people. What more, they were only grunts. Sacrificial pawn. No way they had any important information. But this was just a speculation.

On the other hand, the situation in the house was unknown. They should have a clear goal in coming here, but he didn’t know what it was. But at least, his previous speculation about the death of Cleria and Masaomi hiding a great secret seemed to be true.

‘This thing about the basement seemed really interesting.’

Searching aimlessly wasn’t that appealing.

‘Hum...Well, I can only do that.’

He looked at those two and made his decision.
