CH 28: HAKURYUUKOU

Azrael began to analyze the current situation. Thankfully, the worst situation of her being able to affect space didn't come to pass.

He stopped looking at the young girl high in the sky and turned in another toward his right. There, still in the sky, an old woman was standing on a magic circle. She slowly advanced toward him before landing a few meters away from him.

He inspected her carefully, a woman of many titles, the Witch of the East or Augusta of the Purple flame. Some people simply called her Purple Flames.

He didn't doubt her threat at all. For a Longinus user, destroying a city was just child play. Still, in this situation, he had to keep his cool,

"Good evening, I must say, while it would pain me to have so much death in my mind, it's not enough for me to sacrifice myself either."

He was bluffing. If an entire city was razed to the ground because of him he might not ever be able to sleep again. But, the worst thing to do when confronted with blackmail was to lose one's own cool.

As he said this, he carefully observed her, Augusta was an elderly western woman in her early sixties dressed in violet robes with a sharp glint in her eyes and an upright posture. She basically radiated nobility.

"Oh?!!"

She quirked a small smile before continuing,

"So the son of Michael, the so-called uncrowned prince of the church would flee and leave many innocent to die? Doesn't it go against the teaching of your father and your church."

Azrael smiled, he didn't need to bluff this time,

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"People always seem to misunderstand the nature of angels. There are few beings as emotionless and bastardly as angels. For them, nothing is more important than their missions. This goes for my father too. He is an archangel of war and death. He would never hesitate to sacrifice a few people for the greater good. But this sacrifice must be meaningful. As it is right now, my life is way more important than those thousand of people."

He truly wasn't lying. His father was also an archangel of mercy, as such, he had a very compassionate nature. But, when it comes to making sacrifices he would never hesitate. Of course, he didn't think that his life was more important than anyone else, but she didn't need to know that.

Still, this wasn't enough, he had to counterattack,

"So, what is the wielder of [INCINERATE ANTHEM] doing here? Aren't you worried to bring the start of a new witch hunt?"

"Kyaa!! So cool!!! The one threatened is doing the threatening now. Oshi-sama, Oshi-sama don't you also think he is cool? I feel like we are filming a polar movie."

(AN: Shi or Oshi is a way of addressing one's teacher or mentor)

Agusta sighed at Walburga outburst,

"Good grief, I always told you to learn how to read the atmosphere." Then, turning her attention to Azrael she continued," Still, she is right. You're a very interesting boy, I thought that someone in your position would be more naive...By the way, where is Eleanor?"

Azrael hesitated, he didn't know how close they were, but he couldn't show weakness. As such, with a nonchalant face, he simply pointed toward the not far from their position and said,

"She is dead."

He was rather surprised to see no expression of surprise or sadness on her face,

"...I see. It's too bad. Her sacred gear really held great potential."

"Oh!!! So great. So she died!! I never liked her anyways. Always nagging me and being jealous of me. Ahhh!!! Why didn't I come sooner? I wanted to see how she died."

Azrael could feel all his body shake in revulsion. Even after being told of the death of her own disciple, she didn't even blink, the young girl even laughed,

"It's the same first time I can see a chink in your poker face. Are you surprised? It seems like you're kinder than I thought. I want to bet, will you flee right now, or fight back if I try to burn this city?"

He had to give his all to keep a calm facade. It seemed like she intentionally asked about Eleanor in order to get a better grasp of his personality.

"It doesn't matter. I do not care about your relationship with your disciple. Let's talk about the current situation. You cannot stop me and if you burn this city, I will make it so that all the mages related to Oz become wanted by the church. What do you think will happen if you become the harbinger of a second witch hunt?"

The situation was tense. Azrael was currently sweating under his clothes. But, he couldn't afford to look weak. If he looked like he might cave in, she wouldn't even hesitate.

It was when the tension was reaching its climax that, the three of them suddenly turned to face another direction. There in the sky, what looked like a white star could be seen rushing toward them at a rather high speed.

The star only stopped after coming very close to them. Once the light surrounding him dimmed off, a young kid voice was then heard,

"What's this? You're still alive? Seems like it will be settled without Azazel getting me."

Azrael looked incredulously at the kid. He was a very young one. A young silver-haired kid wearing a black shirt and short pants. At first view, he didn't seem to be older than Xenovia and Irina.

But, what really attracted attention were first, the two wings emanating a soft blue light thanks to their feather that seemed to be made out of energy. Secondly, on his shoulder sat a small white dragon plushie.

Those wings were extremely eyes catching. Seeing them, Azrael couldn't help but have a hunch about the identity of this kid

"Oh!? To think that the Hakuryuukou will appear here, what a surprising turn of events."

Hearing Augusta's voice full of wonder, Azrael widened his eyes in surprise.

'So I wasn't wrong.'
