Some unknown ocean in a yet another small cave - Pokémon World
Adam was feeling pretty good about himself
Fact 1: Adam was alive
Fact 2: Crab meat is and always will be DELICIOUS
Fact 3: No more issues with falling asleep!
Today is a new day, in a new world, in a new universe.
Now I'm not in imminent danger of being eaten and not about to starve to death. I have some time.
Time for what you ask?
Well how about freaking testing abilities, levelling up and trying to figure out all these ???? in my status.
Questions such as can I use magic? Can I use SP abilities like Hyper beam, can I learn more moves that I never saw in the game such a PROPEL? Was there land? Are there just basic Pokémon here or do I need to worry about a legendary Kyogre whooping my arse?
What was the max level? 100?
As for most of these questions, I wasn't going to get answers any time soon, some I was hoping to find out the answers about right.... NOW!
I burst out of my hole in glee and use PROPEL to do quick bursts around my little football field worth of "safe space".
Earlier today I had done some minor exploring to establish whether I was going to get bum rushed by some predator that I hadn't taken into account. Apparently, nothing large seems to be living in the same area as myself.
I did see some large aquatic Pokémon in the distance and some shy looking Coral Pokémon, I think called CORSOLA. I wasn't going to mess with those spines and they seemed uninterested in messing with me.
There were also a few more STARYU in the area but again they seemed to have no interest in me either. A potential food source though for when I get desperate? I let out a nervous bubbling chuckle at the idea of eating raw starfish. Do they have poison? I don't recall from Earth or in the Pokémon world that they did but who knows how close to the game this world is.
So back to basics - PROPEL seems to gain experience from use as *DING - PROPEL Lvl2>Lvl3* which confirms my theory that I don't need to be in combat to level abilities.
As to whether this was true for all abilities, I'm not too sure.
I'm not really in the mood to start BITING on rocks or headbutting the sand and giving myself a concussion to test out the theory. Who knows when I'm going to find another POTION. It’s better to keep my health topped up in case I need to fight again.
So let's see if I can learn skills that I had seen in the game.
Iron tail would be nice, but again I don't feel like damaging my recently healed tail or flippers against rocks. My health doesn't seem to tick up at all unless I rest or burn fat reserves.
My MP doesn't seem to cost me anything to use and I gain approximately 1 point per 5 minutes. Yes I had to count in my head whilst watching the MP bar, definitely not my idea of fun.
I also don’t know whether I can increase the rate at which the MP recovers or if certain abilities can help to speed up this process.
I found some small loose rocks along the sea bed and wondered if I could flick them like soccer balls to attempt to learn a skill.0
DEATHSHOT would be such an awesome skill.
Imagining myself spiking a shard or rock through my enemies like a bullet.
WOULD....BE....EPIC.
Okay let's try this.
I scoop some sand up into a mound and place the rock on top.
I take aim like a pro golfer and 3 .... 2.... 1.... SWING!
Andddddd MISS.
The rock falls down to the ground from the buffeting of the water against the sand.
I'm glad no one but myself and some CORSOLA are witness to this, their burbles of sound either encouragement or more likely laughter.
Take 2. SWING! Anddddd MISS.
Well shit.
So I'd love to say that the third time's the charm, but more like the 10th, I'm successful in hitting the rock with my tail. The rock floats forward i'd say around 10 centimetres or 4 inches if you use that measurement. As the rock settles on the sea bed I check to see if I got any notification.
Nope, NADA. Well that was a massive waste of time!
Okay how about DIG, I saw that fat red freak use it.
The less said in my attempts the better.
No dig skill for me.
Maybe I just don't have the right anatomy to learn to dig?
This is just so frustrating.
Quick attack - NOPE, Flail - NOPE my mounting anger slowly builds and builds.
What good are skills and in-game knowledge if I can't freaking use them! In frustration I glare and yell out at the giggling CORSOLA to SHUT UP!!!
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
*DING - You have learned the move EVIL EYE*
Yes!!! Exactly as planned.
EVIL EYE - Glare at a creature hard enough and lowers the target's crit rate, whilst making them more susceptible to critical hits. Uses 1 MP.
Maybe some moves can only be learned at certain levels? It all depends on the Pokémon? What about the type set of the Pokémon?
So I'm water and ??? and I have no clue what Pokémon I am.
========================================================
Well I guess it's TIME TO NAME THAT POKEMON.
I swim up higher and attempt to look at the outline of my body beneath me.
I'm long, finned, have no gills, however I still breathe under water (so very weird) and I'm a water type mixed with something else.
My flippers are smooth and soft to touch so I'm not a shark.
I'm definitely not a disgusting crustacean. If I was, I think I'd have killed myself in shame like a samurai warrior who has failed to protect his lord.
So that leaves me with a water mammal. Hmm, were there dolphin Pokémon?
Not that I can recall.
I'm in the ocean so I'm not going to be a frog Pokémon or a Mudkip or a Squirtle- no hands. And as much as I wish I was a Totodile that's also ruled out.
I'm not a Slowpoke as they have feet and some weird front hands, UGH HANDS HANDS HANDS I WANT HANDS!
*cough*
I don't think I'm big enough to be a whale.
So that only leaves me with some type of ....Seal.
What Seals are there?
I'm level 1 so I won't be an evolved type... at least I don't think so.
I can't see my nose in front of my face so I don't think i'm the starter Pokémon Popplio?
So that leaves me with either the Walrus or the Seal or something that's not in the game.
Hmmm, so I don't understand! I can't be a Spheal as I am long in shape, not some fat ball of blubber, I also can't be a Seel because the Seel pokémon only had the water type.
Something just doesn't add up.
What am I missing?
Think, think, think!
Ahhhhh i'm so stupid!
I'm assuming this will be exactly the same as the game. But since I have a ??? for my second type, maybe I can't see that type until after I evolve.
Which in that case means Dewgong being an ICE/WATER type fits the bill.
CRAP this is terrible! I only have one evolution and I'm never going to have hands again. NOOOOOO
As if in mocking the system decides to congratulate me *DING* - You have successfully identified your Pokémon class.
Seel - Seel is a pinniped Pokémon with a thick hide covered in bluish-white fur. It has a pale tan maw with a large red tongue and a pair of tusks on its lower jaw. It has circular eyes and a black nose that is capable of closing when it swims. There is a small horn on its forehead, which it uses in combination with its tusks to bore through ice floes. It has two flippers on its chest, and two more on the end of its tail. When the tail is raised, it resembles a waterspout.
Seel lives on icebergs in frigid ocean waters. Its warm fur and thick hide allow it to swim in waters as cold as -40° Fahrenheit (-40° Celsius). It thrives in these cold environments, becoming more active as the temperature drops and tires easily in warm waters. Preferring to sleep during the day, it hunts for prey under sheets of ice in the late day and evening hours. While it is a graceful swimmer, it is awkward and struggles to move on dry land.
DING - Due to successful identification of your first Pokémon you have opened up 1 additional party slot. You also have access to inventory, however due to not having any storage space as a trainer you are unable to access your inventory using regular methods.
What the hell?!?! So I get given a random party slot, whatever that is and an inventory I can't access. What do you want me to do? Go mug a Pokémon trainer?
Oh ... ohhh... OHHHHHH YES!
I need to find and MUG a trainer!
Maybe I can be like a new age team rocket Meowth! Can I talk? Can I generate money from nothing!
Try as I can with all my might that answer is a resounding NO.
So I've got a goal now at least.
Level up so I can find and "borrow" .... forever, a trainer's belongings without getting killed or captured in the process. How hard could that be?
Now hmmm ... ... Antarctic ocean... No land.. trainers can't breathe water like me and would probably freeze to death. And finally in warm water I'm weak sauce, so I guess I need to get stronger first and go from there.
Okay having a goal is good however given my current situation i'm still up the glacier without an ice canoe paddle, or an ice canoe really, or hands to use the freaking paddle.
So for now I need to survive, eat more delicious crabs and somehow get strong enough to be able to fight outside of my element which is super limited (ICY WATER).
