Chapter 14: Alone

I wake, HP and MP refreshed, energy/fat topped up.

No bad dreams today, at least.

I feel like I've already encountered enough bad to last a lifetime. Glad I at least get a break in my sleep this time around.

I wonder what that creature in my dream was. Hopefully just a figment of my imagination.

I’m happy to be out of the camp. Wondering if I’m going to be the next offering was doing no favours for my stress and anxiety.

I gained a bunch of skills and levels in that concentation camp and got free food so it wasn't all bad.

Not all of them were bastards, the Seels were lovely. I think ALPHA was just a bad influence on everything and everyone.

Sadly, I know he's going to do the same thing again with the bears to back him up for protection.

He can fuck all he wants, has Dewgongs to collect food for him, doesn't have to worry about the local predators and can get relatively easy levels. His operation was obviously successful however I’m not sure that the bears are going to give him as much freedom as he had before their attack on our territory.

At least I really hope so.

It's back to the drawing board and time to reassess my plans.

Obviously, at the top of the list continues to be Survive. To do so, I need to get much stronger than I am now and I also need to gain more skills.

I don't want to be weak like that Arrokuda, so I'm going to have to keep going after predators and stronger Pokémon instead of those lower level than myself. Having said that, there will be exceptions to the rule when I need more energy/food. Only in circumstances where I have no other choice.

Learning new abilities will be on my list as well. Getting a backpack is also going to be something on my list of things to do but it is clearly not high up on my priority list.

I'd love to see what my hidden ability is however I'm pretty sure I've already figured out what it is. Since I'm going to be an ICE type Pokémon (I assume) and since I am not affected by Blizzard then I in all likelihood have the ability ICE BODY.

*DING - Identified hidden ability - ICE BODY - exp awarded*

ICE BODY -During hail, a Pokémon with Ice Body will slowly regain a small portion of its maximum HP. A Pokémon with this ability will take no damage from hail it otherwise would.

Errrr.... well that was easy. So I just have to think of what I have and I get benefits from figuring it out. Too easy.

Okay so basic abilities then.... hmm...... Crap that's not so easy to remember.

Guts? Something to do with heat reduction? Heat proof? Propeller tail? Refrigerate, Thick Fat.

*Ding - Identified primary ability - THICK FAT - exp awarded*

THICK FAT - If a Pokémon with Thick Fat is attacked by an Ice or Fire-type move, damage received is reduced by 50%, halving the damage the Pokémon takes.

Wait a second!!! Doesn't this mean that I should be fine in warmer waters now? Well that is great news. I just need to get out of the Arctic....anyone knows which direction I need to travel to do that? My GPS is still brokennnnnn and I failed Geography in primary school....

I remember that Seel had another passive. It was similar to ICE BODY. But worked with water and rain instead. Hmmm to recover by being wet. Well my patients who were dehydrated needed fluids given via a cannula or orally. So the opposite of that? Hydration?

*DING - Identified secondary ability - HYDRATION - exp awarded*

HYDRATION - Heals status problems if it is raining

*DING LVL 11>12 * Awarded x 4 bonus stats for discovering secrets/truths about your species and for defeating a foe higher level than you.

WOAH....so...rewards can be accumulated! That's amazing freaking news. I wonder if I defeat multiple higher level opponents will that also be the case? Only one way to find out.

But firsttttt. Let me take a selfie... jks. First I need to think how I can take advantage of this new information.

I know that I am pretty strong for my level, so I should in theory be able to take on challengers at least 5 levels above me comfortably. The only problem with this mindset is that the higher the level of the Pokémon I fight the more experience it will have and the higher the odds of them knowing how to use skills that might screw me over badly.

Doesn't change that I'm already in a fight for my life in every battle already. I just need to keep that nugget of information constantly in mind.

I also need to find out if I can actively control the elements around me. It's a shame that being in water doesn't count as being in the rain and it'll be unlikely for me to make it rain or hail underwater.

.. ... Actually, could I make it "hail" underwater? If I just have pieces of ice solidify around me not only would it help cause absolute chaos and obstruct vision but additionally it should mean that I could use it as some sort of attack. Like... I dunno, blizzard?

Definitely something to work on.

Sadly I have ZERO control over the element of water since I just swapped it out for PSYCHIC and I have been unable to sense any other energies inside myself at the moment. Maybe I just need to evolve to gain a handle on ICE, I never saw any Seel using ice. Although I also never saw any Seel controlling water either.

Lastly I realise I have done nothing to explore my Trainer status. I’ve been so focused on being a Pokémon that I’ve forgotten that the system designated me as a trainer and that I am my own starter Pokémon.

So today the plan is a little different. I’m going to catch something and see what happens. But it needs to be something that will either be powerful or unique, just in case I can’t change it out.

The hunt is on, no more being alone!

I swim out from the hidden hole under the rock shelf and travel along the water.

I wouldn’t mind finding a water type or an aquatic creature. No point getting a bear that will just drown when I release it for combat, seems a tad impractical.

I continue to observe the Pokémon around me. Being careful not to bring attention to myself against predators in the area.

Krabby … pass. Shellder …. I quickly smack down a lvl 4 Shellder with PSYCHIC and eat the delicious Scallop! Careful to leave the shell and any potential pearls behind. Luckily there are none.

Ahhh what was I doing again?

Ahh yes…. Pass on Shellder, I will eat all crustacean, too yummy not to.

Corsola … PASS.. I’m already slow, no need to have an immobile target if they need to keep pace with me.

So that means either fish, amphibian or mammal or bird.

I don’t really want another of my own species. So what do I have as options.

I see some Mantine - Hmm maybe. They are too low level though.

I prepare to move on when I notice a shadow in the distance charging towards the Mantine.

A lone predator. It’s a Carvanha. Ohhhh I can work with that. She seems a little different from the ones I can remember and it's unusual to see them hunting alone, Oh well.

I watch as it happily munches on a Mantine. I appraise the Piranha to see it is level 16.

Hmm. I hope it won't run away from me due to being higher level. Her MP and HP are also above average at 200/220 HP and 190/220 MP.

I need to be careful as this implies that she knows how to fight or knows something about her species.

I watch as sparks fly off her scales as she moves through the water. Hmmm, thats different. Maybe she has learned some epic moves.

I set up a good angle and hide under the sand. I charge up and fire off a PHSYCIC at her -50HP.

Something doesn’t add up but I’m not too sure what it is. She looks around confused and injured, and very angry.

I continue to fire off shots of PHYSIC at her from my spot in the sand. A few more and I have this in the bag. Too easy, mwahaha!!

As if on cue, the Piranha realises she needs to do something. And do something, she definitely does.

Those sparks around her, yeah not just for visual effect. She wiggles and the sparks grow… and grow. She sends out a pulse of electricity around her in a sphere.

Super effective attack SPARK dealt to me -100 HP.

Sheeeet, she does that two more times or if she stuns me I'm toast, I have to act now.

I rush out from beneath the sand attempting to hit her with a bonus crit to Ambush.

She turns to face me and my Ambush is a bust. I have no choice but to hit her as hard as I can. I PROPEL, PROPEL, PROPEL into an EMPOWERED BITE knowing this is going to hurt.

*Ding TAKEDOWN learned* I take recoil damage and the piranha gets off another point blank electric attack. SPARK deals direct damage of -100 HP. You are PARALYSED.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

TAKEDOWN - A reckless charge attack that also hurts the user

If I can’t BITE I’m dead. Luckily I get off another BITE before letting go from PARALYSIS.

The Piranha looks at me victoriously, she knows she has won. She charges in with electrified fangs.

*Ding - Pokémon Carvanha can be caught. Capture? Y/N?

Yesyesyesyesyes oh fuck get me outta here.

The Carvanah disappears from in front of me. Her attack cancelled. My life spared, my body ... still Paralyzed.

Pokémon captured

Carvanah - Female - Lvl 16

[Electric/Water]

*DING - Exp gained - LVL 12> 13 x 2 stats awarded for defeating a foe far above you*

…… ooooo, I’m both super lucky and unlucky at the same time. I finally realised what was wrong. My PHYSIC would have done nothing to her if she was a normal DARK/WATER Carvanah but she likely wouldn’t have even noticed me attacking. So I would have no effective ranged attack against her, and in raw power and mobility she would trump me hard.

Those serrated teeth as well, I reckon she would know CRUNCH which could have potentially one hit me if her AOE electric move did almost half my health. Wait, never mind. She's not a DARK type anyway, maybe no CRUNCH then?

Unlucky because her electricity meant she could super effectively hit me with an AOE.

Super lucky because I got myself another Black Zone Variant including myself.

And super super super lucky because I assume since she is a Variant she has no pack to hunt with as her electricity would damage her own kind.

=====================

So I'm Paralyzed, injured and alive. I need somewhere to lay low and to try to figure out what to do with myself. I have no idea if I can REST to recover from my PARALYSIS or if I need some form of potion or berry to fix the issue. If that's the case, my chances of survival aren't looking great.

I will need to work on worst case scenarios and as such need to assume that my only chance is to figure out how to heal Carvanah and get her to fight and hunt for me until I can remove the PARALYSIS.

So.... how exactly do I un disappear CARVANAH and if I do so will she just try to attack me again?

Okay then the plan is simple. A) REST and heal in safety B) Figure out how to heal Carvanah C) Remove Paralysis if REST doesn't revolve issue

With that, I slowly move towards a place to bury my body in the sand by some rocks.

Time to REST

Having read those stats, I'm super lucky the Carvanah didn't decide to engage with an AQUA JET into a THUNDER FANG instead of letting me hit her first and then responding with a SPARK.

I think I was just lucky in catching her off guard. Even if my AMBUSH failed, it still allowed me to surprise her and reduce her reaction time.
