Chapter 13: The Clash

Adam dreamed for the first time since coming to this world. He remembered his family and friends. His job, his cats, his home, his garden.

What he wouldn't give for some nice fresh fruit or vegetables. He wandered around his house. Happy and suprised to see his loved one sleeping next to him. That was until he went to hug her and his hands just passed through flesh.

Suddenly he felt as if the floor was insubstantial and he fell through.

Down, down, down into darkness.

The familiar feeling of the water, the familiar feeling of the cold.

Deeper and deeper he sunk into the black inky abyss.

Past fantastical mythical beasts of legend within the Pokémon world. None seemed to pay him any mind.

Further and further he sank until he reached the bottom in complete darkness.

Alone again.

He felt a rumbling beneath his body and all around him. It then ceased. Then again resumed. Over and over this repeated.

Thump thump, thump thump - Another noise came to his attention.

Thump thump, thump thump.

He looked around towards the direction of the sound.

The feeling of staring into a void.

The void slowly became more visible as two large slits with red in the centre parted. The slits slowly grew larger and larger to reveal the eyes of a creature truly massive in size.

Thump thump thump thump

The creature was staring towards his direction. However, obviously he was not really here.

When the pupils of the creature constricted and focused on where he was, he felt like that was not the case.

A mouth of great proportions opened, what felt like thousands of serrated teeth lined the mouth from top to bottom.

And then the creature ROARED.

Arctic Black Zone

Adam woke up in the middle of a Blizzard in a cold sweat.

Oh what fun! What a terrifying dream.

Around him the Seels huddle together for comfort. No real need for protection against the elements though since they were Seels from the Arctic. They were built to handle shit like this. The cold caused no discomfort, their blubber insulation protecting them from the worst of the elements.

Adam extracted himself from the pile of his brethren, his little body able to navigate through the maze of fur without disturbing any of their sleep.

Yesterday there was a confrontation with the bears when Alpha refused to give them any tribute. They left shorly afterwards however they looked pissed.

It was not unusual for him to be the first to wake from his REST as he had little to no need to recover any HP and his energy reserves were always topped up with the influx of free food provided by the Dewgongs.

I greeted the murder Dewgongs on duty who paid me no mind.

Well no time like the present to get some more training done.

As I prepared to focus inwards I used FOCUS ENERGY. Something today just felt different though. What it was I wasn't quite sure but something was in the water today.

I looked around trying to figure out the origin of this feeling. Nothing around me. I looked up and that's when it hit me.

The sky was aglow in ambient energy. Swirls of it literally visible wafting around in the sky above. Almost like an Aurora Borealis. But the Aurora shouldn't feel so threatening.

I'm not going to get any training done today, that was for sure. How could I with this oppressive feeling almost like a weigh pressing down upon my body.

It seems I was not the only one to notice this sensation as Alpha and Saviour also stir from their slumber and the Dewgongs on duty all look even more vigilant than usual.

Something was going to happen.

I just knew today was the day.

Bad omens in the sky.

I was not superstitious however when bad is literally circling the sky above, it was hard to ignore the signs.

Almost as if on que roars filled the distance, echoing off the cliffs.

The Alpha roared in turn waking up all my kin. They quickly formed a defensive circle with the Dewgongs facing towards the direction of the bears' territory.

I squinted as best I could into the distance, looking for even the slightest of movement.

The many mounds in the distance seemed a little strange.

Strange in that they were growing larger in size.

Shit, those were not mounds, those were bears.

At least ten bears, charging on all fours towards our position.

It appears that if we won't pay tribute then they will take what they want. The Seels start panicking however the Dewgongs bark aggressively. There is no retreat. Not on Alpha's watch.

The Dewgongs prepare for the incoming assault. I do my best to act small and accumulate as much of my energy inside myself as I can as I conceal myself with some snow.

I watch as Saviour summons up an ice wall blocking half the bears from reaching us. With that, the rest of the Dewgongs charge into the 5 trapped bears. With odds of 2:1 it's our only chance. Take out the front group then deal with the rear.

Alpha smashes into the front most bear, he glows with a white light. The damage of the bear's claws bouncing off his hide. He in turn smashes the horn on his head directly into the exposed neck of the bear and then shakes his head violently back and forth.

The bear is dead in seconds, blood gushing out of its severed jugular.

The other Dewgongs are not doing so well, each with cuts littering their bodies but none has gone down yet, we seem to have the upper hand.

That is until a large bear noticed their lack of reinforcements and turns around, sprints up to the wall and shatters it with its own ICE move.

With that the odds have yet again turned against us. I watch in horror as the little cute Cubchoos circle around the fighting and charge into the Seels. Most of the Seels stand no chance against these predators as fighting was not an experience for them in this sheltered life that they lived.

I notice that the female Seel is doing a good job evading three of the Cubchoos coming for her. I fire a quick PHYSIC attack at the closest Cubchoo. It reels in pain as if It's been hit by a bulldozer and collapses onto his side, frothing at the mouth. Still alive but certainly not expecting to be so dazed, the other Seels quickly take it down.

*DING - experience granted*

I watch as the female Seel continues to dodge the other two Cubchoos and the other Seels that usually follow her use this opportunity to overwhelm them remaining two with numbers. Tackling the two Cubchoos repeatedly until they collapse.

Our small victory is short lived as more Cubchoos arrive. These ones seem larger, older and stronger.

I quickly glance towards the Dewgongs and notice that they seem evenly matched. Saviour's ice continues to be cancelled out by her opponent, however neither makes an attempt to engage the other directly.

Alpha continues to assert his dominance and he has killed another bear in his rage, however not without recieving some new battle wounds to fill his already impressive collection.

I focus back to the fight at hand noticing that many of the Cubchoos have decided to start feasting on the defeated Seels instead of attacking as a group. The female Seel and her group are winning but they look exhausted. I continue to hide knowing that my size will do little to overpower the Cubchoos. A lucky critical strike would be nice however that would only remove one Cubchoo from the equation. There are over 20 still around.

So I bide my time as more of my kin get taken down. As long as things continue as we are the Dewgong will finish up their battle and then render assistance to us. I hope. I gain more experience as I take pot shots at the unaware Cubchoos.

*DING DING DING* - Lvl 10-11

As time goes on I hear a new sound. A loud roar. I look away from the Seels fight which I have been assisting with from time to time with PHYSIC blasts. I see a truly imposing sight of a BLACK bear flanked by two large scarred Beartic.

BLACK walks up and faces off against ALPHA.

The figthing momentarily stops as the two roar in defiance of each other. They continue to stare at each other and BLACK points with her large claws to the side.

Then Alpha being the dick that he is backs down and moves to the side. Obviously some sort of agreement has been reached however this can only mean bad news for the rest of us.

I watch as BLACK and her two henchmen wade into the remaining Dewgongs. Claws rendering flesh like scissors into paper. All that remains is Alpha and Saviour. Saviour moves towards Alpha only to be cut off by BLACK.

"Gong?" the distressed Saviour asks of Alpha. He just turns and looks away from her.

She knows now that the deal struck doesn't include her.

With that she looks directly at me almost as if in apology and then I watch as she concentrates a truly massive amount of ice energy around her body. The Beartic who controls ice just can't compete with the firepower Saviour is gathering.

This will likely be our only chance, whatever happens next is going to be big.

BLACK charges at SAVIOUR but it's too late. She releases a massive blast of energy which quickly dissipates into the ice floe beneath us.

She slumps to the side, exhausted as BLACK bites into her head and in a couple of CRUNCHES ends Saviour's life.

As the light fades from her eyes I see her looking directly at where I am hiding, a blood filled face smiles at me one last time before the BLACK bear conceals her from view as she feasts, a roar of victory can be heard from all the bears present.

Well that was anti-climatic, what now?

I watch as the Bears turn and race towards the Cubchoos and Seels making swift work of them. The remaining Seels attempt to escape in all directions.

The ice beneath me starts to vibrate, causing most of the bears to lose their footing and fall over. The vibrations continue to get stronger, the bears look confused.

Stronger the vibrations become until with a massive CRACKKKKK the ice beneath us splits apart into thousands of separate islands. Some bears fall through the gaps only to be crushed by the ice moments later. Water comes rushing upwards filling in the gaps.

I quickly appraise the BLACK bear - All I get is her name and type BLACK ZONE BEARTIC - DARK/ICE. Her head snaps around from her feast as she looks directly at me. A hate filled glare or rage, if looks could kill. Her eyes glow red.. oh shit.. wait ... looks can kill. I quickly avert my gaze.

I need to leave... NOW.

I quickly slip into the gaps in the ice and into the water below. Willing to be crushed between the ice is certainly a better death than being chewed to death. I accelerate away downwards with PROPEL, doing my best to dodge falling blocks of ice. Eventually I make it back into the familiar inky darkness.

I look around to see other Seels doing the same however the Female Seel is nowhere in sight.

The bears were too preoccupied trying to retrieve their meals from the water before they sunk to the depths to come chasing after us poor remnants.

I wasn't safe yet. Shards of ice rained down from the water above. They accelerated the further down they fell. I got hit by a few smaller ones causing slight damage -2 each time. The problem though wasn't the damage, it was the bleeding the cuts caused.

I didn't want to become a beacon for predators so the second I find a safe place away from pying eyes and falling shards of ice, I'm going to REST to heal from my injuries.

My luck seems to have run out though. Not only have I not found a place to sleep but something has picked up on my scent. An Arrokuda darts out from amongst the rocks near the bottom of the ocean. Rocks too small for me to fit into.

Lvl 13 Arrokuda. HP 130/130 MP 90/130

He's a higher level than me but as I've already learnt the hard way, levels can make very little difference with a discrepancy as minor as this.

Although my HP and MP are much better since I've levelled the hard way, not like this bottom feeding chump.

So I engage with my trusted PROPEL into HEADBUTT, which he easily dodges. And then swipes my side with his sharp fins scoring damage to my flank -20 damage.

I quickly check my own status

120/210 HP 60/210 MP

So we are about even, but Arrokuda seems to trump me in close combat with those viciously sharp body parts and his agility.

I keep my eyes on the prize and focus on Arrokuda whilst using PROPEL to zoom away from his charges.

Luckily he has no idea what PSYCHIC energy is so I hit him with an invisible blast of PSYCHIC for a ton of damage. -70 HP. He's on his last legs now. However I take a water gun to the face from the Arrokuda.. of course he can use TYPE energy too :(, what a dirty cheater. And to make things worse, it's not as weak to me as before since I'm no longer a water type. I take - 20 damage.

The Arraokuda has no clue what hit him so he's on the defensive getting ready to block whatever comes his way.

PERFECT. My attack is invisible dude, good luck dodging. With that, I charge up another PHYSIC at the stationary target.

-60 HP. Bahahaha gotcha!

And that is why you need to experience true battle instead of just picking on the weak all the time.

*Ding - EXP awarded*

..... I'm an idiot. Why do I need to find a hole. I can just dig beneath the rocks to make myself a nice little place. I'll just pretend I’m a Moray Eel!

Dig dig dig dig, I pull the body of the Arraokuda into my hole, eat my fill and then REST.
