Chapter 22: The terrible fish

Jess takes us back to the dining room for some well earned lunch before we apparently have something fun to do in the afternoon.

I'm glad to see that she is piling up 2 plates worth of food. One for her and one for me.

SCORE! I have trained her well, such an obedient human.

I happily much on my meal as Anna looks at me and states with a sing song happy voice

“You are going to have so much fun after lunch. Ohh I can’t wait to see how happy you will be.”

Hmm, maybe she’s not so bad after all. I wonder what fun I will have next.

So with lunch over the girls and I stroll back onto the deck. I can see a buff shirtless hairy man thing.

“Hey Foul, we got a new member to join us!”

The ape of a man just stares at me and gives me a big smile.” Yeah I think I can work something out for this fella. What did you have in mind?”

“Hmm, maybe something to improve his movement ability, he seems pretty slow moving without legs and all.”

Jess… if you weren’t feeding me I might just throttle you right now.

“Well to get a Pokémon to do what you want you will need to give it some sort of incentive.”

He stops talking and looks at me.

“Do you want to get stronger buddy?”

Lol of course I do but I don’t need your shit routine to achieve that. I just look away from him in disdain, he stinks of sweat.

Jess squats down and stares me in the face “How about if you do well and all the tasks given to you, i’ll continue to give you more yummy food to eat?”

I look at her with interest, but aren’t I already getting yummy food. She can clearly see that i’m interested though.

“I’ll take you to a nice restaurant once we get back to the mainland?”

You drive a hard bargain lady but you know the way to my heart is through my stomach, I nod excitedly and exclaim “Seel!”

So around an hour later you ask what my task was? It was pretty simple, to avoid the girls who were trying to chase me and I got a 10 metre head start, they had to reach me by running through an obstacle course with weights on their back.

The catch? They strapped a little Seel suit on me that was probably the same weight as I was. Why can’t we just focus on me trying to learn … say… agility? Stupid humans and their dumb ideas.

Yes, I'm technically human… So what…. You wanna try not bitching whilst I put weights equal to your own body mass on you? Yeah.. didn’t think so.

To say this was not fun…… Well that would be a huge understatement. I did however get some joy when I decided instead of letting them catch me I would use takedown on Anna, although I’m careful to not hit her with my Horn or Tusks. Only problem is I think her legs are made of steel as I seem to be taking so much recoil in exchange for making her fall arse over heels.

Yep… I know what you are thinking. I agree, totally worth it.

After what feels like an eternity Foul calls a stop to our training. We all collapse on the ground. Anna with bruised shins, me with a bruised … everything. I don’t even know which muscles hurt the most right now.

Whoever said flippers and a tail don’t have muscles are liars. Even the horn on my head and my tusks hurt and those are supposed to be bone. Jess seems surprisingly fine considering we just did the workout from hell.

The worst part of it all, the stupid film crew if watching my failures and ridiculous getup. I’d be so embarrassed if anybody recognised me… lucky i’m in disguise as… a Seel…. in another world.

Funny that for once I'm thankful for that fact.

We have a quick shower which was humiliating in and of itself, dinner and then crash onto the beds in the girls room.

[REST]

================

A new dawn, a new day.

My whole body continues to ache. I totally hope today is not a repeat of yesterday.

Today though brings an unexpected opportunity.

Apparently the trainers deem the Avalugg fiasco to be over and no further threats have been found. So Kabu gives the girls and me the go ahead to go onto the ice again to try to find Anna her first Pokémon. The Pikachu of death accompanies us, a good insurance policy all things considered.

Worse is that the stupid film crew is coming with us today to record Anna’s first capture.

We get further and further away from the ship until it is obstructed from view. We continue to walk until we reach a little beach. A familiar little beach, full of Pokémon that look very much like little penguins! Ha who am I kidding, those are just yummy aquatic chickens LET EAT!

I watch as the Pikachu sends a massive bolt of lightning into the ground and all the penguins including the Emploeon flee in all directions. They clearly know they are outmatched against this angry rat perched on Anna’s shoulder. Why the little guy's electricity doesn’t hurt Anna I will never understand, weird new world laws are strange. I mean she’s literally got an electric generator sitting on her shoulder with enough wattage to power a city.

Anna takes the opportunity to corner a large Piplup whilst I also take an opportunity to release a little fish into the nearby water, I summon a heal potion above the little fish and she quickly heals.

Sparky looks around in confusion whilst she quickly recovers. Whilst she just sits underneath the water I bring her up to speed on what has happened.

“I’m so sorry for having to wait so long before bringing you back out. As an apology look at all the tasty chickens in the water here for you to munch on!”

I can feel through our link that although she’s not happy with the situation she can’t pass up an opportunity for some tasty food.

Anna instructs the Pikachu to try to wear out the little Penguin without obliterating it. Pikachu proceeds to run circles around the little fella, darting in and out of his range, forcing him to expend some MP to try to keep the rat at bay.

This continues for a while and when the Piplup is exhausted Anna throws her pokéball and makes a successful capture. Well that’s good to know that you don’t have to hurt them to catch them.

Jess runs up to congratulate her and the girls quickly hug.

The girls prepare to leave until they look towards the water and see red blood spreading out around a certain location. They watch apprehensively as a little penguin breaks the surface and is followed out of the water by an angry looking fish which proceeds to tear it apart mid flight.

Whoops. I think my little Sparky is going a little wild right now letting off her pent up frustration. I wait to see what the girls do next. I don’t have to wait long as Jess speaks up.

Seel do you think you can take that thing on and win? I eye Jess with surprise then realise that she is holding a spare Pokéball in her grasp.

Ohhhh…. Actually this could work out.

I quickly bark a “Seel” in affirmation and instructs Sparky to dive underwater where we can pretend to fight. After around ten minutes of use splashing around and Sparky firing off random discharges of electricity around the area I instruct her to surface and pretend she is defeated.

I break the surface and give Jess the go ahead “Seeeel!” and true to expectations she throws the Pokéball. I quickly tell Sparky to dive under the surface with the Pokéball sinking into the water after her. I then RECALL Sparky and it appears as if the Pokéball has captured her as it rises back to the surface with no Carvanha in sight. If you don’t ignore the fact that there was no flash of light from the Pokéball hitting her, then I think I pulled off a rather convincing performance of a Pokémon capture.

The girls hug as I collect the Pokéball and return it to Jess.

“I have no idea why you wanted to capture that ugly looking fish, it seems like an absolute beast.”

The camera lady interrupts to state simply that she thinks that this was fantastic footage. “That’s no normal Carvanha! Congratulations ladies on both of your captures!”

Jess looks at Anna with glee. “Exactly it’s the perfect Beast to compliment how cute little Seel is. And didn’t you see those sparks of electricity! I bet you all my money that he or she is another variant of Carvanha. I’m going to be RICH. Two variants, both undiscovered!

The camera crew continue to gush over and praise the girls and me on our performance. I just hope nobody pays close attention to the capture. The girls have to do a quick post capture interview on their thoughts and then we all head back towards the ship.

The next few days proceed much as the last, Carvanha is sent for an inspection at the Pokémon centre which takes more theatrics on my half to get her out without arousing suspicion. How you ask… simple.

I refuse to let Jess have the ball and take it from her whilst Anna gets her Piplup checked over. By the time nurse Joy comes to look at the Carvanha I already have her out and in a small treatment pool inside.

I quickly converse with Sparky whilst this occurs. “Hey, can you breathe outside of water?”

“Yes, although I'm not going to move. You see if you haven’t noticed I have NO LEGS OR ARMS.”

“Ughhhh don’t get me started, look at me I don’t have those things either. First world problems.”

We continue to stare at each other “Look you can either deal with that problem like a big grown up fish or it’s back into stasis for god knows how long for you.”

Sparky gives me the stink eye and then gives me a nod in response. She doesn’t like the idea but it is way better than being in stasis without an idea of when she can come out next.

Both Pokémon are given a clean bill of health and with that I continue to have the Pokéball that Jess used to “capture” Carvanha hidden (I just stole it and converted it to trainer points), so she is unable to recall her.

Jess is forced to let me walk as she gives up around 30 minutes later, being unable to find her Pokéball and has to carry our little fish. Only problem is that without her gloves the fish’s scales cause scratches on her skin. Sparky realises this as I glare at her.

“What! I’ve always had ROUGH SKIN.”

DING - Carvanha has discovered the trait ROUGH SKIN - exp awarded

Excess exp sent to SEEL due to trainers level

Oh so damn epic. I totally forgot about her passives!

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“Quick Sparky, say you have SPEED BOOST!”

“I have Speed boost?” I wait and notice that nothing happens… damn.

The benefits apart from having Sparky out is that all those little chickens have resulted in a massive burst of xp to myself, so much so that yep… Levels!

Here you thought I was going to forget didn’t you. WRONG!

You want to see… fine since you asked so nicely.

Seel lvl … wait…. It's still 16. Something isn’t adding up.

If we are both maxxed out then… where is the exp going?

Oh my god… don’t tell me it’s being wasted! Noooooooo.

Okay so my goal now is to raise my trainer level as quickly as I can, I know I can only gain exp from instructing my Pokémon to fight!

I think about what I can do to organise this and then get distracted as a plate of food is placed in front of me. Human food! Yesssssss!!!!!

Sparky is given mush which she refuses to eat. She's currently sitting in a ridiculous fish bowl on the table. I have no idea where they found it but that's at least one way to skin a cat or... feed a fish.

Jess places some ... slush in a bowl next to Carvanha.

Sparky looks from my food to her slop, then back up to Jess. I watch in expectation as Carvanha tries a small bite of the food then literally doesn't something very uncivilised. Not something I would ever do.... of course notttt. She throws her bowl into the air and it upends on Anna's head.

"Oh my god! You have a terrible fish, what the fuckkkkk!" She screams as food drips down her face and gets into her hair.

I slide my bowl over to sparky and she starts to eat my food happily. Jess gets the hint, lets out a massive sigh and proceeds to get another bowl for me to eat from.

Anna just stares angrily at the fish "YOU ARE DEAD!"

So with that my wish for a trainer battle is quickly granted.

We head to a different gym battle ground which is basically just a large aquarium where the girls can stand on the opposite side of the glass to call our instructions and still see the progression of the fight.

Anna summons her Piplup and Carvanha hops from her bowl and into the aquarium.

1v1... I'm going to pummel that stupid fish.

A watching trainer is asked to referee and declares the fight has begun

Before more than 3 seconds pass a large penguin charges into the Carvanha who has set up an electric field around her. ZZZAAAAPPP.

The stunned chicken is then quickly bitten by electrified fangs and the fight is over.

Piplup is recalled into her Pokéball before Sparky can tear her to pieces although I'm sure she will need pretty solid care and will potentially have a scar from that bite, it looked nasty.

EXP AWARDED - Trainer level 5>6 - 1 super potion granted.

With that although Anna is still angry she loses the battle fair and square and takes her Piplup off to the nurse to get healed, and to assess how bad the damage actually was.

Luckily since Piplup is an actual caught Pokémon that she didn't just straight up and die and in what seems like a very short period she is given the all clear but instructed to not fight for a day to fully recover.

With that we all head to bed, fish in a bowl, me in the death grip of a freakishly strong child.
