Chapter 30 Losing control

Chapter 30 Losing control

Wrath’s point of view

“Gobber! I figured it out! You’ve got to hit them really hard to kill them!”

I swing again at another one. This time cleaving a lesser demon at the right shoulder blade going all the way down to it’s left leg. It explodes like the first one I killed. Another of the lesser demons rushes towards me but it’s feet touch the goop the lesser demon left behind when it exploded. This stops it dead in it’s tracks. This is not good, if I kill another 10 lesser demons the entire floor is going to be covered in this goop. Kite speaks up now.

“STOP! STOP IT! You need to kill them with ice or fire magic. If you kill them normally they leave behind a sticky residue. Fire will liquefy the material and make it far more runny while ice will make it hard and not sticky at all.”

I pull out two of Kite’s swords, one is enchanted with several fire enchants. The other is a cold iron sword enchanted with freezing magic. I dumped his bags out when I took control once and after tallying all of the weaponry he has on him… It totaled over 200 pounds (90kilograms) of extra weapons. That many weapons for so many uses… It is ridiculous to me. I could accomplish the same outcome (me killing anything that challenged me) with maybe 4 different swords. It is a waste of space with no real value besides the single situation one of the different weapons would be better than a regular sword.

I swing the fire sword at one of the smaller demons. WHAM! WHAT!? The light swing was enough to explode a large portion of his body and the rest of it crumpled to the ground in a blackish watery pile. Another swing from the other sword. SMASH! REALLY!? The frost blade cuts deep into the lesser demon. Why are these so effective? These monsters were so difficult until I started using fire and ice magic… Smart ass probably knows why.

“It isn’t just magic that effected them. The lesser demons couldn’t venture into either very hot or cold climates. Historians think that is why they started... Breeding with humans to make the demon kin… The purpose of breeding them was to make a ground troop with more resistances to weather but as time passed it turned into magical resistance as well. While the demon armies were invading many humans were killed. The lesser demons were hard to deal with, there are a few accounts of villages managing to deal with regular demons but… Just be glad you’re not facing a greater demon because there is no accurate information on them.”

I regret waking up Kite. I did need help with these lesser demons but now they’re no threat at all. I’m a little disappointed they are suddenly so easy to kill but at least there are still the big ones left to deal with. Kite chimes in.

“Regular demons happen to be weak-.”

“Shut up! I don’t want to know. Let me figure this out.”

I quickly deal with the remaining lesser demons. The self made contest I made with Gobber is over now as I throw the two swords towards him. I yell out.

“You deal with little ones. I’ll take care of the bigger ones.”

I pull out my heirloom sword again. I could tell that from Gobber attacking him that he did suffer some sort of damage. It wasn’t much but I want to swing as hard as I possibly can at it and see what happens. We’ve taken care of all of the excess lesser demons in the room already. Two more come out of the portals, along with another regular demon. Shit, we’ve gone from being overwhelmed by the small ones to possibly having no room to maneuver without being in range of one of those giant hammers.

I’ll have to fuck one of these up quickly! I rush the distance between me and the one that’s been around since the beginning. He raises his hammer above his head. I swing as hard as I can. I cleave into its leg a quarter of the way. It winces in pain as it drops the hammer down onto itself. WHAM! It leans forward now with both hands holding its head… This leaves his neck at perfect cutting distance for me. I swing it as hard as I could before, no even harder!

I look at it’s face, it’s eyes shoot wide open. I quickly take a few steps back as it falls to the ground. I figured it out! These big ones are dumb as fuck! You attack it to get it to lower it’s exposed neck to you… Alright, I have a battle plan. Kite yells disgruntled at me.

“That isn’t… Why would you think… Well, I guess if it works...”

If I'd guess, I'd put the big ones come out once every minute. It took about ten seconds to kill the last big one so… I have plenty of time to play around with this big one before the next one shows up. I’m going to try and kill these demons in different ways to see which way is the most effective. First would be, I want to punch one of these to death.

I put my heirloom sword away. Shrinking it to the size of a dagger and tucking it in my weapon pouch on the side. I just charge at him, more lesser demons come but I don’t care about them anymore. They’re too weak to care about. He prepares an obvious attack with his hammer. He is going to swing it from right to left. I jump at him and kick his elbow, he drops his giant hammer. I need to jump to hit him in anything that might actually hurt him. These big demons almost look like they move in slow motion… They’re far too slow for them to be a threat but if I get careless a single attack could hurt me drastically.

I strike him three times jumping and swinging at his face. He swings wildly at me, I dodge and use his own momentum against him. I keep swinging, I swing harder and harder. I keep swinging! I dodge his obvious attack again and just keep swinging. Wham, wham, wham! I start to focus even harder on this demon, the sound of my heartbeat is very loud in my ears. Gobber says something but I can’t hear him. I stab him with my fingers like a knife between his bones, poking as deep as I possibly can.

Punch after punch I keep focusing on normal weakpoints of a human. I keep punching! WHAM WHAM WHAM! I punch out another tooth. WHAM! I catch him right in his throat! WHAM! I GOUGE OUT ONE OF HIS EYES! MY NOSE STARTS TO BLEED! WHAM! WHAM, WHAM! I BITE INTO HIS SHOULDER! I RIP OUT A CHUNK FROM HIS SHOULDER! MY FISTS KEEP PUMMELING HIM! I KILL HIM! KILL! I’LL KILL! I KEEP SWINGING! I BITE, I KILL, I WILL EAT HIM ALIVE!

Everything goes red… I can’t think clearly, this is almost like a dream. I use my fingers and teeth to stab and tear at the head of the demon I was facing. A few seconds later his throat is opened up and he is dead. I don’t care, I just keep stabbing him with my fingers. I bite into him eating as much flesh as I can. A lesser demon strikes me from behind. I swing with unnatural reaction speed and slam it in the head sending it flying into a wall. It explodes on contact. I don’t feel anything… Anything besides cold… Cold coming from a single point on my body… My dead hand is covered some type of ice.

I snap out of it and look down at my hand. Black ice covers my hand and makes almost a spear like tip now… Was it like this when I ripped the throat out of that demon? I can’t remember. I take a few deep breaths as there are no enemies around and realize I’m bleeding from that lesser demon attacking me.

Fuck, I quickly heal myself with some magic. The only one I know off the top of my head is heal so it isn’t much. I should really look up some more healing skills since it is going to take a very long time using just heal to recover fully. I heal 10% of my missing 30% health before another demon comes through. I was already close to the portal so I don’t waste any time attacking him. I stab him with my black ice hand… I stabs clean through him! What!? Shit… I don’t know how I did this black ice… It’s so strong but it is going to be useless after this fight if I can’t remember. Kite finally yells.

“What the fuck is with your power!? I can’t get that much power out of my body, how can you?”

“This is my body Kite. I can just use it better than you.”

“No… That’s kind of a bullshit excuse… There has to be a reason why you are so much stronger than me. Hmm... Perhaps it’s because… No… That’s wouldn’t be… What if!”

He mumbles to himself. Clearly losing himself in thought like he’s done hundreds of times before. This isn’t even the first time he’s ended a conversation with me just to start thinking. Heh, that’s why though. Kite could get just as much out of this body if he didn’t overthink everything. This body is a well toned fighting machine, just let it do its job and kill everything. There is no reason to over complicate fighting when punching things until they die works just as good as a long as dumb plan… He’s not even listening to me.

It doesn’t take much to finish this fight. With the new black ice weapon the enemies don’t stand a chance anymore. I’m going to have to try and remember how I did that black ice. I heat up my hand and start trying to melt it as look over the loot. There are plenty of rares, about a dozen, three epics and a legendary stacked in a pile from where the bigger demons portal was. On top of the pile is an orb of some kind. I quickly inspect it and it is a dungeon core. Kite screams.

“DUNGEON CORE! WHA- HOW!? They don’t spawn for anything lower than a tier 3 raid and even still these are an extremely rare drop! I’ve only heard rumors about these! Make sure you pick that up and take very good care of it!”

I can hear that nerd already thinking in the back of my head now. I swish some spit around my mouth and spit out some of the blood from biting into the demon that still remained in my mouth. It tasted surprisingly good for how it looked. I feel… Happy for the first time since my fight with Gray… I doubt I’ll fight anything this strong for a very long time. Gobber doesn’t look as happy. I question him about it and he says.

“Yea I mean the fight was fun and all but… I really wanted a chance to solve that riddle. If I guessed wrong but still tried he might have told me the answer.”

“…The answer is a human… They crawl on all fours when they’re babies. Then once they grow they walk on their two feet… Finally, once they grow old they use a stick to help them walk… I think that’s the answer… The time thing in the riddle is just a figure of speech...”

I think I’m done for now… I yell in my mind.

“Kite! You want to take back over? This raid is going to be boring after that fight anyways.

“Alright… I guess I’ll take over… You normally don’t give up your control before the time we agreed on.”

“Yea… I’m just done for now.”

Kite takes over. I have a lot to think about. Unlike Kite I can have thoughts without broadcasting them to him… Now that I think about it, there are a lot of things I can do with his… With my body that he can’t. Shit! I’m starting to think like him. I need to keep pushing forwards. I had a few notices after that fight.
