Terms of Agreement

On the way back to their abandoned home, Johnny was lost in thought, thinking about how that elderly man managed to defeat ten members of their gang without throwing a single punch. It was as if the man had done a magic trick and put an invisible wall between himself and the others.

“You paying attention?!” Axel shouted, snapping Johnny out of the trance he was in.

“Yeah,” Johnny responded.

“I’ll say it again anyway, tomorrow the boss wants all of us with him when he goes to talk with the Mad Dogs in case it goes south,” Axel said.

“Okay.” Johnny immediately answered.

Before they reached their home, Johnny and Axel walked by the elderly woman’s closed Bodega where they saw someone dressed in all black with a ski mask on, walking towards the glass door and shattering it with a lead pipe. Immediately both Axel and Johnny ran after the person in black.

“Ayo!” Axel shouts.

Still carrying the gun from earlier today, the color drained from Johnny’s face as he pulled out the gun and fired two shots at the man in black, hitting him twice in the back, causing him to fall over. Once Johnny and Axel finally catch up to the injured man, they flipped him over and snatched his mask off revealing him to be a dark-skinned man bleeding from the side of his mouth.

“Shit! He’s one of the Mad Dogs! The rumors were true.” Axel said in a panic.

“War.” Johnny calmly said as he stood over the body of the injured man pointing the gun at his head.

Then without a second thought, Johnny squeezed the trigger shooting the African American man in the head, killing him.

Soon after the three gunshots, the sound of sirens started getting closer and closer to where Johnny and Axel were.

“We have to go,” Axel commanded as he began to run off.

“Right,” Johnny replied, as he ran off with Axel leaving the dead body there.

The next day, Johnny left the abandoned home earlier than Axel to go to the Bodega where he saw the elder woman crying in front of the shattered door, and with her were two police officers inspecting the crime scene.

“Que paso, Abuela?” Johnny asked.

“Johnny! Mi Tienda!” The elderly woman replied.

Remembering what happened last night, Johnny gave the woman a hug to comfort her.

“Lo siento” was the only thing Johnny could say without telling her directly what had happened and why it happened.

After he helped the elderly woman make a formal report to the police so that they could create a warrant of arrest for the culprit should they find out who did it, Johnny was pulled by the police officer separately for a moment.

“We’re pretty sure this break-in is somehow connected to the gang-related shooting last night. Could you tell her that for me? Also, tell her that it’s possibly not a good idea to reopen the store yet. She may be a target.” The police officer inquired.

“Will do,” Johnny replied.

Once the police officers leave, Johnny left soon after never telling her about the warning the officer gave her.

“Donde estas yendo, Johnny?” The woman asked.

“Brooklyn,” Johnny replied coldly.

After leaving the bodega, Johnny met up with Axel back at their home to grab his pistol, and they met up with the other members of the Street Kings to prepare themselves for the war meeting taking place in Brooklyn.

Jorge was the last to arrive at the location the war meeting was set to take place, an abandoned factory warehouse located north of Bay Ridge high school. Soon as it was time for the meeting, the huge warehouse began to be filled with hundreds of men wearing either a yellow or red bandana to cover their faces. On the left side, with nearly one-hundred members, from Far Rockaway, were the Street Kings, and on the right side, also with one-hundred members, from Brooklyn, were the Mad Dogs, and in front of both gangs were their leaders, Jorge representing the Street Kings and Trayvon representing the Mad Dogs.

The rival gangs stood behind their leaders, guns in hand should something happen during the meeting. Then the meeting started.

“Seems like we’re ready to start.” Jorge began.

“Seems like it,” Trayvon replied.

“Before we decide on the location for the party. I want you to know this would not have happened if you people kept to yourselves and stayed out of our territory.” Jorge continued.

“Fuck your territory. We been playing nice with you people long enough to know y’all would eventually start gettin’ greedy. So, we decided to make the first move before we got caught lacking.” Trayvon retorted.

“We ain’t do nothin’ that you wouldn’t have done given the chance,” Jorge replied.

“Man, enough with the talk. Name the location.” Trayvon demanded.

“Slow down, el mono. We’re getting there.” Jorge insisted.

“On the GW Bridge. Now the time.” Jorge continued.

“Tomorrow, two in the morning,” Trayvon answered.

“All weapons are allowed except for guns,” Jorge added.

“We go until only one side is left standing,” Trayvon added.

“Very well. See you soon.” Jorge said then blew him a kiss.

Once the terms of the agreement were set both gangs cleared out of the warehouse without any conflict occurring.
