I'm No Different

Edward quickly ran toward the three men at the edge of the park leaving Johnny behind.

“Wait!” Johnny shouted.

Ignoring him, Edward ran through the park to stop the three men from getting into their car and driving off.

“If he was kidnapped, why would he now be out in the open?” Johnny thought to himself as the questions continued to pile up. This entire situation seemed odd to him from the moment that Edward decided to rush out of their home to look for this “Clark”. Once Johnny had finally caught up to Edward he was already in front of the three Hispanic men, none of which were his son, Clark.

“Clark!” Edward shouted as he reached out toward one of the Hispanic men.

All three of the men looked puzzled at Edward.

“el es mirando para su hijo” Johnny explained to the three young men

“Nombre?” One of the men asked.

“Clark Kennedy,” Johnny answered.

“Yo no se,” The same man said.

“Gracias.” Johnny ended the conversation.

Defeated, Edward watched as the three men got into their car and drove off. Meanwhile, all Johnny could do was stand by Edward without questioning him as Edward had done for him. Then after some time had passed, Johnny broke the silence.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

“Just because he wasn’t here, doesn’t mean we won’t find him,” Johnny assured Edward.

“Right,” Edward responded, trying to force a smile.

Johnny didn’t want to let down the person that had given him a second chance at life, but he didn’t know what else to do. He was suddenly thrust into a mystical world without a paddle, but he didn’t mind since anything was better than going back to a life of gang violence. On the way back to the car, Johnny and Edward watched as a black van drove down the street and moments later gunshots were heard being fired nearby.

“Get down!” Edward shouted as he and Johnny dropped to the ground to avoid any ricocheting bullets.

Once the bullets had stopped, they looked around and saw the teenagers that were fighting and betting on the fight on the ground with blood escaping from underneath them. Shocked by the scene, Johnny shot up from the ground and rushed to the bleeding teenagers face down on the ground. The gruesome scene of one of the teenagers on the ground gasping for air as they clutched the area they were shot while the other teenagers were already killed, the sound of the sirens quickly approached the scene of the shooting as Johnny stood in terror, remembering everything that he and the Street Kings had done to others and that this wasn’t an unfamiliar scene to him. In the middle of the chaos, he spotted the infamous yellow bandana that he knew well.

Johnny stood by as the sirens steadily got closer and eventually were in front of him, carting out the dead bodies as if they had done it several times before. Once both he and Johnny were questioned and released by the police, Edward lowered his head to mourn the dead in a moment of silence.

“More children lost to senseless violence…” Edward muttered to himself.

“I don’t want to be here anymore,” Johnny said, finally snapping out of his trance.

Edward began to lecture Johnny about the importance of showing respect to all living and dead things, but given what had just happened he decided against it and walked back to the car with Johnny following behind him.
