“Did I do it?” Johnny asked surveying the mug that was filled with water.
Johnny found a barely noticeable piece of the mug had chipped away and screamed in excitement.
“I did it!” Johnny screamed celebrating his breakthrough.
As Johnny was celebrating, Edward came back down the stairs to check on his progress and found Johnny dancing along the table. He looked at the cup and saw the mug barely chipped away, smiled, and went back upstairs allowing Johnny to continue to celebrate.
After about thirty minutes of celebration, Johnny finally sat back in his chair and began to do the same thing he had done before. He closed his eyes to remember the same feeling that he felt when he let off the discharge.
“Come on….” Johnny whispered anxiously.
After some time had passed, the mug remained the same.
“Come on… do it again. Discharge” Johnny said trying to get the mug to break some more.
He had forgotten his original task wasn’t to break the cup, but to freeze the water and several hours had passed before he remembered what the task was. With the mug not breaking further, Edward returned from upstairs and interrupted Johnny’s concentration.
“Johnny, take a break and shower,” Edward said.
“But I’m so close. I just need a couple more hours.” Johnny explained as he continued to focus on the mug.
Edward walked over to Johnny, picked up the mug filled with water, and dumped it on Johnny’s head causing him to yelp as the cold water splashed onto his head and down the back of his shirt.
“It’s great that you want to improve, but if you push yourself without taking a break either your body or your mind will burn out.” Edward lectured Johnny.
“Fine,” Johnny said annoyed.

After Johnny had gotten up from his seat to take a bath, Edward placed his hand into the water and caused it to gather into one place and then evaporate.
“He’ll be a fine magician one day,” Edward said to himself with pride.
The next day, after Johnny had done his daily exercise he filled a cup with water, and once again began to concentrate.
“I imagined an electrical outlet the first time it worked and that broke the cup, so what if I imaged something cold? Will that work?” Johnny thought to himself.
Johnny began to think about the ice cube he had held then he thought about being in the harsh winter Buffalo weather for the first time. After several minutes had passed, he felt his fingers begin to tingle slightly and then become cold.
At that moment, Edward came rushing down the stairs in a panic causing Johnny to break his concentration.
“Johnny, get your jacket we’re returning to the city,” Edward instructed.
Confused by Edward’s panic, Johnny jumped up from the chair he was sitting in.
“What’s going on Edward? Why are you in such a rush?” Johnny said as he scrambled to put on his sneakers.
“I’ll explain when we get in the car,” Edward said as he nearly flew out of the door and into his car.
Once Johnny got into the car, Edward backed out of his driveway as fast as he could ignoring safety, and sped down the street rushing back into the city.
“Are you okay, Edward? I’ve never seen you like this.” Johnny asked.
“It’s my son. They kidnapped him.” Edward explained as he sped down the street diving in and out of traffic.
Johnny was left silent as his mind flashed back to the old Hispanic woman that owned the bodega. The entire ride back into the city was silent. Johnny thought about the life that he left behind and how he almost died. He thought about being left for dead by his best friend during the battle at the bridge and how the Mad Dogs attacked that woman’s store. As Edward drove into the city, Johnny thought about how it felt when he killed someone for the first time and how he thought he was going to die.
After some time had passed, they made their way back into the same city that Johnny remembered hating. Johnny thought about asking where Edward was taking them until he looked over to Edward and saw that the color had drained from his body and was replaced with an unimaginable rage that was building up inside of him.
Finally, they made their way to Brooklyn College and parked in front of the school. Edward leaped out of the car and stormed onto the campus leaving Johnny behind. Before Edward could get too far onto campus, he was approached by a group of six men, and he kicked off his sandals.
“Why are the Mad Dogs here?” Johnny asked himself as he watched Edward go off on his own.
Without showing a sign of hesitation, Edward walked right through the group of males.
“Move” Edward commanded them causing them to topple over.
