20. Hotel - 9 1 -

“They got guns!” I shouted across the headsets, the pilot pulled the stick back and the helicopter lifted. Looking back at that same instant, a number of bullets hit the side of the helicopter. The entire cabin was filled with tiny thunks and then little holes appeared through the side, the pilot was frantically checking instruments and talking through the radio. At that moment I saw light shining through the dust, turning around and there was a hole showing through the cabin to the outside. The helicopter had been hit nearly all over. I froze, slowly looking down I felt around and luckily i didn't see any bullet wounds or blood. Checking on kira she was also ok along with the pilot luckily we all dodged the incoming bullets. But the instrument cluster had taken a hit and stuck a piece of metal. Occasionally a spark would pop out but nothing else. ” It's all right, I have control and the panel is still working,” the pilot reassured us. Looking through the hole I could see the main parts of the helicopter seemed to be working fine but there was a constant mist like spray of oil somewhere deep inside. “ I can see oil leaking through this hole back here,” I said over the intercom. After a while the pilot responded “ we might have to emergency land somewhere around outpost 9, I already contacted our tower back home. They're gonna send another helicopter out to get us when we land. ” I looked out the window and we weren't smoking terribly badly but it was progressively getting thicker. “We're starting to lose oil pressure,” the pilot told us. Looking through the hole every single part inside was covered in a coat of oil. Outside a smoke trail had been made. We had gained quite a bit of altitude by this point, which worked in our favor if we had to auto rotate down. The engine was running strong but the effects of the oil reduction was becoming apparent and the whine of the engine became louder. We flew for a while, but with a terrible loud grinding noise the engine destroyed itself from the inside out. “Everyone hold on,” the pilot told us. Disengaging the engine the the rotor began to regenerate its speed, as the pilot pointed us towards the ground. Dropping like a rock for what seemed like a lifetime the pilot pulled the nose up at about 45 feet. The helicopter slowed way down, the only problem was while we got low enough and slow enough we were not at outpost 9 we’re about 2 miles away and around dense vegetation. ”I'm going to lay it down right here” He said. This looks like a soft landing due to the fact that we would be landing in a shallow creek. As soon as this thought entered my mind the tips of the tail rotor clipped something. Even with the tail rotor destroyed the helicopter stayed pretty much straight. *THUNK*
