19 . getting some ore

Going through the dense forest there were the remains of past warfare, monster and human alike. Downed helicopters, old fortifications, and caught parachutes stuck in trees littered the land. It was a couple months ago when the war ended tensions were still high in the area and its borders. Kira was taken aback by the artifacts of war forgotten behind, it obvious she's never been this way. After awhile of walking and being on edge we arrived at the mine, a twinkle of raw ore i've never seen before fluttered in the cave not too deep in. “ That's a very strong mix of ore,” she said excitedly. I took notice of its striking beauty, after taking a sample from the rock she concluded that this was a mix of iron ore and with a hint of diamond throughout. While she mined out a decent amount of the ore I looked around the cave. It didn't come to me right away but this was an old Russian mine, Man made. in the distance draped, forgotten an old Russian flag, the red faded to a darker maroon and yellow not as vibrant, both infused with dust and time. Farther down the cave at some point had caved in and whatever lay past that point was lost to time. Back in the war between humans and our allies the US, Russia, And Germany were the biggest of these countries. After the war most of the vehicles and equipment was taken back home but the Russians were prone to leaving bulk supplies and vehicles scattered about. Like this mine somewhere throughout there was probably an old generator that still had fuel in it. “Ok i think i've got enough” Liz said throwing a bag full of rock over her shoulder. “Would you like me to carry anything?” i asked her, “No just guide us back out the mine”. Following our placed rope we exited the mine. As soon as I stepped into the sunlight I jerked back out. “Shh” Liz quietly whispered, “There's demons and orcs out there”. She was right about 30 feet out the cave standing 3 demons and 2 orcs. They could mean no harm but on the other hand they could charge us. On my back I was carrying an old m14, a reliable gun with good power. In case things went south. After a short while we went outside the cave, those monsters were long gone by now. 20 minutes later we had decided to do a little exploring, nothing crazy but seeing the area near where we landed. We came across a Demon but she ment us no harm and only told us to be careful around here. On the way back to the helicopter a old dusty road of asphalt lay. We decided to walk down this road. After about 5 minutes we came to an old military outpost. This was an old Russian facility. Multiple bodies lay around some monster corpses and some undistinguishable, all bones by now. The facility had been hit at some point in the war; a massive hole was in the right side, old ceiling lights hang down visible through the hole. Planning on checking out the inside we opened the door. A metallic clicking noise followed by an electric whine, along the walls red hazard lights turned on and somewhere at the sound of an air driven siren tried to spin up but then blew out, a second spun up and the ear piercing wail drove us out the outpost and down the road. This probably drew all the monsters in the area. Looking back I could see the outline of some monsters looking at us. “we need to get back to the helicopter”. I told her I was starting to worry a bit. Anything could happen while we're here, and no one would know. After running for a while we finally saw our landing site. There were a couple monsters following us not to close but they were there. Locking the gate back we returned to the helicopter. As the helicopter's turbine began to spool up I noticed the steadily increasing amounts of monsters around the area. Nothing had happened yet but it was increasingly worrisome. “How long till we can take off?” I asked over the headset. “ Not too much longer, ” the pilot said back. I slid the sliding side door closed and we slowly got off the ground. *thunk* “What was that?” I asked. I looked out the window to see some of the monsters throwing rocks at the helicopter, *thump* one after another more sounds began. At that moment my eye caught sight of a distinctive shadow across from the helicopter. Out behind a tree stepped a demon holding something on his shoulder, in front of him the people moved to the side. “RPG!”
