My name is Imai Akuma, and I'm an average Japanese citizen. I graduated from a so-so college with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I work a 9-5 job as a programmer, making about ten million yen a year.
My life has been so mundane and boring that I wish that something exciting would happen to me as it does for others. Some people in the world are superstars or are billionaires. I wish I were one of those people. Then, my life would be filled with excitement rather than this mundaneness.
Not to say that I'm not living a good life; I want it to have a bit of excitement. Reading manga, watching Anime, and playing games are the only things that make my life exciting. Without these things, I don't think I could continue living in this dull world.
My daily routine has been incredibly dull too. I start my day by waking up at six in the morning. I'll cook my breakfast, take a shower, check on the news, and then head off to work. When I get home, I cook and eat my dinner, then play games, read manga, and watch anime until I go to bed at 10 P.M.
You see, this life is boring! I'm thankful for everything that has happened to me, but I wish that I had just one more thing... Anything!
Like a girlfriend or even a friend, I tried on getting both, but I'm not that good at socializing. Though, I think it's about my approach. I mean, everyone gets scared off when I try inviting them over or when I ask if I can hang out with them. Man, what's wrong with me?!
Ugh... Anyway, today is yet another uneventful and tedious day. I have already eaten my dinner and am currently watching a hit new anime that came out this season.
The anime is one of those isekai types where the main character gets reincarnated into another world. That would be exciting... Reincarnating into another world, why can't something like that exist in real life?
Sadly, today's episode is already over.
"Ugh! Why can't all 12 episodes come out at once?! I mean, I know why but still!"
I get off my bed and walk to my computer. I take a peek at the bottom right to see that it's 9:55 P.M.
"(Yawn!) I better get to sleep. I have that meeting in the morning. Ugh. It's not going to be fun."
Dink-a-doo!
"Hmm?"
Suddenly, a notification appears on my computer. It seems to be from...
"An unknown sender?"
This is weird... You may not think so, but I have personalized my computer to the extreme. I have created many programs to increase my computer's performance while also doing some useful tricks to make my experience more comfortable.
One of these features includes checking all my emails and deleting spam, viruses, or an unknown sender. That said, this email got passed my program somehow. The question is, how?
Well, I guess I can check it out. I move my mouse towards the mail icon and click it. The mail application opens up as a window with a tremendous amount of email attached to it. I search the top of the list to see the unknown sender's email waiting there. I run a scan on it to check if it is safe to open. When I get the green light, I open it up.
Dear Akuma,
I heard that your life has been boring, but fear not, friend! Attached to this email is a questionnaire that you can take. I can guarantee that taking this questionnaire will make your life so enjoyable that it will take you out of this world! Not only that, the question itself is interesting that even you would have a difficult time-solving. Enjoy!
[Questionnaire - 1 TB]
"Huh, how do they know my name?"
I use an alternative name when I'm online, so no one should be sending me an email that has my real name on it. Well, apart from work, but that on my work email. This is my personal email.
Also, what is with that file? One terabyte?! There is no simple questionnaire in that file if it's a terabyte. That said, they say that the questions in it are so complicated that even I'll have a hard time coming up with an answer. I doubt that. I mean, what could it even be?
I ignore the earlier part since no questionnaire can make one's life exciting. I mean, it's a one-time thing, and it can't change a person's life. Nevertheless, it's somewhat tempting. I'm given the green light, so it can't be a virus...
My curiosity got the better of me as I move the pointer to the file. I double-clicked on it, which opens up since my computer has more than 100 TB and my advanced computer and internet layout, the file downloads and opens almost instantly.
A window appears as it opens up, showing a one-question questionnaire.
If you could reincarnate into another world, what powers would you want to have?
That is the only question. For a moment, I thought that this was the most straightforward question in the world until I notice the text below the question.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
You have ten points that you can use. Please do not go under or over this limit. As you write down your answer, the system will generate many points that power or skill is worth. Once you are done and happy with your response, please click submit, located at the bottom right.
I see... It can be considered a challenging question now. I mean, I can come up with some powers, but I don't know if they will fit this ten-point system. Suppose it doesn't, then I'm not sure what I would point. Well, I have nothing to lose, so I guess I'll entertain this question.
Alright, first, if I could go to another world, I would want the power to fly and teleport. That's my go-to. I mean, having these cheats are in most isekai for a reason. It's powerful and useful! I mean, getting from place to place is essential and can help me in a battle!
I type my answer in the blank provided—the text updates after I wrote down my answer with numbers in parentheses beside my answer. I see, so that how many points the skill is worth... Also, it appears that it came up with a description of the skill too. Interesting!
Teleportation (1 point) - The ability to instantly travel to anywhere you have previously been to before. Able to teleport to anywhere that is within your sight too.
Flight (1 point) - The ability to defy gravity and travel in the air without wings.
Alright, this is unique! Well, I guess most answers are one point unless they are crazy... Anyway, I have eight points left. What else would be good to have in another world?
By the way, you may be wondering why I'm taking this questionnaire about traveling to another world seriously. It's because I'm so bored that it's fun to think about what I would want if the chance ever arises. I mean, people are doing the same thing but with a zombie apocalypse, so why can't I do that with an isekai world?
Anyhow, what powers should I add... Thinking rationally, since I have some movement-related powers, I should get some protection. That way, I'll be able to survive longer in that world! But what should I get... Oh, I know!
There are status effects in games that can either hurt or slow you down, with some adverse effects—poison or petrification. Alright, I'll add that power!
Immunity (3 points) - Immune to all debuffs and sicknesses.
Three points, huh. I guess that's fair. I mean, being immune to everything would be pretty badass. That said, I wish I could be resistant to all types of damage. That would be overpowered!
Anyway, what now? Well, I have movement and defense; I guess I need a way to attack. That said, I don't want to be extremely overpowered at the start. If that were to happen, it would be a repeat of this life. I want to have to train my body and skill manship to be strong. That said, I do want to get OP at one point!
Well, if this is a world like in anime, then there is possibly magic in it. I would rather be a magician than a swordsman, so I guess I'll master magic and use it to fight in this world.
Magic Mastery (1 point) - Gains all magical attributes and makes the body perfect for using and practicing magic. Spells are at a greater lethality than normal. Must train thyself to use the power to its full potential.
Nice, I now have the ability to learn and master magic in this world. Based on the description, I'll have to learn how to use magic in the world before I become a master at it.
Hold on, to use magic; I'll need mana, right? What if I don't have any in this world? Hehe... Then let's have an enormous mana power so that I can use my magic whenever I want.
Rich Mana (2.5 points) - Mana within the body is at a higher concentration than normal. Mana pool within the body increases ten times faster than normal. Spells powered by this mana increases in lethality.
Two and a half? So decimals are options too. That's cool, but it's going to be hard to find powers under a point this way.
Anyway, what should I get now? Well, I have a way to attack but what I'll need is knowledge. For instance, I won't know how to use magic or increase my magical ability, but if I had a way to get that knowledge, I could practice right away!
Yeah, I'll put something like that... But what form do I want? I don't have enough points to put the knowledge into my head, though I want to learn the power manually and not rely on power like that. Oh, how about a book that knows how to use magic? That'll work!
All-knowing Database of Magic (1 point) - A digitalize database that carries all magical knowledge inside in the form of books. Anything magical has mana or magic potential is within these books.
Cool! I know have a way to learn about magic and the like. I have half a point left... What can I get with only that? I mean, I could keep inserting powers and hope one of them is half a point, but that might take forever. I also don't want to restart because I like what I have so far.
"Ooh! What if I can use this sheet to control what I look like in the world! That's surely not a point worth, right?"
I nod to myself as I start typing out some accessories that I would want to have in another world. Thankfully, all of the accessories that I added were a total of 0.5 points...
Hair Color: Blue (1/6th of a point) - Makes your hair color be a shade of blue.
Heterochromia Iridium (1/6th of a point) - Right eye color is sky blue while your left eye color is blood red.
Matching Outfit (1/6th of a point) - Outfit matches hair color and eye colors. Trench coat style outfit that is blue with black accents.
Yeah! I have completed this questionnaire. Man, this was more fun than I thought it would be. Though, this has gotten me pretty sad. I mean, I created this cool character in a world that would be nothing less than exciting, but I can't even participate in the world. Oh, well...
I click on the submit while stretching my legs and arms for a well-done job. After clicking submit, a pop up appears.
Congratulations on completing the questionnaire. The answers you provided fit the criteria. Due to your answers, the system will add a couple more powers to finalize your creation.
Huh, what's this? After I read the message, another one appears, showing some more powers.
Monstrous Strength - Physical strength is extremely higher than normal. Strength is greater than inhuman strength. Requires training to be mastered. Once mastered, able to destroy buildings with only thy hands. Able to evolve if mastered.
Monstrous Speed - Able to move at incredible speeds. Requires training to master. Speeds can affect flight speeds and can reach sonic speeds. Able to evolve if mastered.
Race: Monster - Unquie race that isn't considered as a human with unique abilities.
Interesting... I'm not sure what these bonus powers mean, but I guess it doesn't matter.
"Shit!"
I look at the bottom right and notice that it is two in the morning.
"I need to hurry and get some rest, or I'm going to be late for that meeting."
I shut down my computer and set my alarm on my phone. Then I rush to brush my teeth, turn the lights out, and went to bed. While dosing off into a dream, I hear a mechanical voice come from somewhere; however, I was too sleepy to think about it.
Acknowledgment. Transferring your body and soul into the new world.... Successful. Enjoy your new exciting life Akuma!
