Chapter 46 – The Heist

They arrived near a huge obelisk that is roughly three meters tall. The dual were behind a tree a hundred meters away. Putting their masks on, Harry threw the body of the city lord’s daughter in the middle of the road and Leonardo opened the vial and threw it beside her. The two guards instantly recognize the only daughter of their lord and quickly rushed forward to help.

“What’s wrong mis-” One guard spoke as he bent down near her and suddenly blacked out. The guard behind him noticed something was wrong but it was too late, he too fell unconscious after a second. The vial of potion Leonardo unleashed earlier contained a colorless gas that can knock out even Heaven Domain experts.

Wearing breathing masks, Leonardo and Harry rushed towards the obelisk. Harry stabbed his knife into the stone obelisk with all his strength, it only went in a few millimeters. Leonardo followed suit on the other side of the door and stabbed the knife into the door.

“Watch your power levels, keep it at level 9 to be safe!” Leonardo hissed. If they used Qi higher than level 10 then it would set off an alarm. Harry wanted to swear back but all his focus was on breaking down this door. Even King Domain experts would find trouble breaking it down. They kept pressing the knife against the door and it penetrated millimeter by millimeter.

While the two men were struggling to open the door. Jane on the other hand had lured a young man back into the mansion. The mansion guards instantly let them in since he was the nephew of the lord. It was obvious what they were about to do. The moment they went into a private room in the fifth floor, Jane knocked him out. She slowly tip toed her way across the hall and came in front of the master bedroom of the lord. Pressing her ear against the door, she took her hair pin out and tried to pick the lock. It was proving to be difficult.

“Freeze! What do you think you are doing?” A voice came from behind. It was a guard patrolling the fifth floor.

Damn it, Mr. R said they should be no guards today. Jane thought to herself. Without thinking, she silently ripped opened her blouse and pretended to be drunk. The guard asked for her identification and she replied by asking for the bathroom and that she has to get back to the lord’s nephew. After hearing that she’s the “date” that the nephew of the lord has brought back, the guard held in his disgust and escorted her to a bathroom. The nephew was the trash of the family but because of his status, the whole mansion has to respect him.

After a few minutes Jane quickly came out of the bathroom and attempted to picklock the door again. By her estimate, the guard will be back in five minutes. Thankfully after two more minutes she managed to open it and slipped in. She then started rummaging the room. Nothing was left unturned, all the books were taken off the shelves, all the clothes were thrown on the ground and even the paintings on the walls were taken off. Finally she found a secret passage after pulling down a chandelier, a book shelf opened up. Before entering, she opened the window and blew on a whistle.

During this time the two men finally broke into the obelisk and found themselves inside a small room filled with gold. Gold coins and bars were laid out neatly around them. There were even storage rings filled with even more gold. The amount of gold in here was staggering, this was because the city lord had pocketed many bribes and collected extra tax from the citizens over centuries. There was at least thirty million gold coins worth of stuff in here. With one million, you can build your own inn at any city. With two million, you can buy a rank 7 King Domain weapon or armor without essences. With twenty million, you can buy a rank 8 Emperor Domain weapon or armor without essences. This was how rich the lord was. He might not be as wealthy as a first rate sect but he is definitely richer than most sects.

The two swiftly emptied out this gold vault and put all of its contents into a single storage ring. The two quickly got out and Leonardo took out a small whistle and blew on it. A regular pigeon seemingly flew out of nowhere and came near them. Leonardo equipped the ring around the pigeon’s leg, the color is identical so it’ll be hard for even an expert to discern. The pigeon then flew outside of the mansion’s walls that was secured by guards. After it flew a few blocks away, it landed on someone’s shoulder. That person was no other than John!

Leonardo and Harry threw the talismans they had around the obelisk and ran back towards the party. A minute afterwards, the talismans exploded. A huge boom could be heard and the guests started panicking. The city lord that was merrily chatting away with his guests suddenly looked aghast. He knew that something had happened near his treasure vault so he shot forth in a yellow beam. The vice-head of the Whirlwind Blade Sect along with a few other experts and guards quickly followed suit.

The moment the lord disappeared, Mr. R disappeared and reappeared on a random tree branch. In his hand an intimidating black bow appeared.

Back to where Jane was, the secret passage in the lord’s bedroom led to a small room with nothing but a creepy key made of bone that was the size of a paintbrush. Obviously this skeletal key had great value but Jane didn’t know what to do with it. It couldn’t be stored inside a storage ring and so she took it. Suddenly the room shook and an alarm went off in the mansion. Without further thinking, she ran out with all her power. The moment she got to the master bedroom, she attached the key to the pigeon’s leg and threw explosive talismans all over the bedroom before leaving the mansion through the back. Most of the guards already went with the lord to inspect the garden.

Jane approached a small gate opposite of the main entrance guarded by two guards. A three headed wolf with black razor sharp fangs sat beside it. This was a peak Heaven Domain beast. Heaven Domain beast are generally stronger than Heaven Domain humans because of their stronger bodies and innate powers. It seemed to be asleep but it was obviously guarding the entrance. There was no way of getting past it without disturbing it.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

“Guys, I’m compromised. There’s a Heaven Domain Beast guarding the south entrance…” Jane whispered, a trace of fear can be heard in her voice. The lord will be back in less than a minute after hearing the alarm.

Suddenly a blur of black light shot out of nowhere and hit the beast squarely in his chest. A second one followed and took out the gate. The unfortunate guards were severely injured by the explosion, one had lost an arm.

“Go fast.” Mr. R’s voice came from the other end of the voice crystal. Jane quickly complied and ran outside. She was obviously seen by the pedestrians but she didn’t care, after finding a secluded alley, she took off her facemask and her original face was revealed. She then quickly put on another mask and a different set of attire.

The lord was frantically flying back towards his mansion, he heard the alarm and knew something was wrong. He was attempting to wake his daughter up when he heard it. The guards were confused, what could be more important than his daughter? The vice-head of Whirlwind Blade Sect seemed to know something and followed closely behind. With their speed, covering seven kilometers shouldn’t take too long but they were intercepted by black Qi arrows. Their faces were ashen, they knew that the opponent was a King Domain expert like themselves so they had to slow down and approach with caution. More black arrows came out of nowhere but they were not aimed at anyone specific, they were aimed to destroy random property.

The guests were not ordinary people but attacks from a higher domain than themselves can easily kill them. Instantly chaos spread amongst the guests and all rushed to get out. The guards themselves were already disorganized so obviously they couldn’t contain the people trying to get out. Leonardo and Harry easily slipped out with the crowd. Mr. R after shooting multiple arrows, reappeared in the crowd and left silently as well.

By the time the lord made it back to his secret chamber that held the skeletal key, no one was around. With his anger, he blew up half a dozen rooms in the mansion. The key was apparently more significant than his gold or even his only daughter’s welfare.

Leonardo’s group slowly met up again. John and Mr. R met up first. John whispered something to Mr. R and his face fell. Ryu knew why, the pigeon carrying the skeletal Qi wasn’t able to deliver it to John. Because the moment Ryu saw the pigeon carrying the storage ring from Leonardo and Harry’s theft, he had reached out with his Qi and used the beast communication art he learned from the Han-Soo tribe to ask an eagle to stalk any more pigeons around the mansion and take any items from them.

Later Leonardo and Harry met up with them briefly. John gave them one storage ring each and the two separated from the group in their own ways. They visited the west side of the city which was not as wealthy as the east side. This was common in most city, usually the wealthy citizens live together in their own section. Harry visited a few shrines and donated a generous amount of gold. He then visited a few orphanages and took out various clothing, toys, food, and gold coins for the kids. The kids were happy beyond belief, the people at the orphanages couldn’t thank him enough.

Leonardo on the other hand visited the homeless on the streets. He gave them each at least fifty gold coins, a set of warm clothing and some food. One gold coin can buy a dozen loafs of bread. The homeless people were so touched that they started crying. Obviously some had many misfortune in their life, this fifty gold coins can help them turn it around. Leonardo visited dark alleys, parks, under many bridges and even sewers to find these people. It seemed like they prepared the food and clothes beforehand. These clothes were not brand new, if they were then it would draw suspicions.

Jane met up with John and Mr. R last. However, they had some questions for her.

“Jane… what did you find in the mansion?” Mr. R asked nicely, there was no deception on his face.

“Oh, there was no gold like we thought. There was just some odd key… the strange thing was that it couldn’t be stored in the storage ring. I tied it to the pigeon instead. Why?” Jane asked.

“Oh nothing, we were just surprised that’s all.” Mr. R said with a smile and John handed her a storage ring filled with some gold. Jane took it and went off to do some good deeds.

As soon as she left, Mr. R’s face fell and John spoke up, “There’s no way that girl would lie to us. It seems we were just unlucky and that the pigeon I trained was attacked by a wild beast. What should we do?”

“What can we do… we finally located one of the keys to that dungeon! It took us centuries to track down its location. We only have three weeks left to find it or another one like it.” Mr. R hissed as he tried to control his anger. John’s face was ugly as well.

Jane actually left the city and visited the farms outside. There were ordinary human slaving away at the fields, harvesting vegetables and fruits. The houses they lived at were made of frail wood that looked like it would tip over with just a push. This is the harsh reality of the world, those without money or the ability to wield Qi can only be treated as trash and live in horrible conditions. Similarly Jane gave them gold coins, clothes, food, and even new tools. If there farmers that were sick, she would give out medicine as well.

Ryu had long obtained the skeletal key from the eagle and stored it within the Infinity Tome. After observing all their actions and saw that they were coming back to the inn, Ryu released all his clones that he sent out to scout. The clones simply vanished in thin air. His main body was cultivating from the lightning fruits back in the inn.

“So they steal from the rich and give to the poor?” Ryu muttered to himself as he thought about what just happened. Because Ryu released his clones early, he didn’t see what was happening across the city. An unprecedented lockdown was issued by the city lord, Wen-Xia. Everyone had to account for their whereabouts or they would not be able to leave the city.
