Wonder’s Turn

Wonder adjusted his shirt. Two months would soon be coming to a close, and the final showdown in Fasis was about to begin. Depending on how the Fasis Plan worked out was whether or not they could do the Master Reset. Beholder had sent him a notice that the Oracle City situation was now under control… and the city itself was under Myzune control. Wasn’t surprising, honestly, a scholar city kinda belonged under a species that valued information above nearly everything else…

Rose wrapped his arms around Wonder. “Hey, dear. How are you feeling?”

Wonder smiled. “Nervous. We’re willingly going be getting into shit soon.”

Rose smiled. “But all for the best.”

“Agreed.”

“Did Malchon agree to help us?”

“He did. Was a bit shocked when I told him I knew where he really came from, but agreed once he heard the basic plan.”

“You didn’t tell him Blood’s twist?”

“No. Not yet anyway. We don’t even know if a non-Lightwraith will be able to see it.”

“And this Nightmare Queen?”

“I basically told her that we’re gonna do a blow against Light, one that should either cripple her or keep her busy. Since Achylon confirmed Light was the one behind the mess in Talcini, she agreed. Also said she was gonna try and sneak a few children in to help, but she couldn’t make any promises.”

Rose nodded. “Can’t blame her. That’s territory of another goddess. It’s gonna be difficult to take down.”

Wonder nodded, and rolled his shoulders. He then turned to kiss his husband. “Want to go somewhere special tonight?”

Rose smirked. “How about we just stay in bed and have Crisis watch the baby?”

Wonder purred. “Sounds fun~. And let’s lock the door this time. I know what was going through Acryoa’s mind, but it did point out we have adults and nearly adults in this household.”

Rose said, “Agreed.”

Wonder kissed Rose again, smiling gently. “How did I get so lucky?”

“Hmmmmm. I’d rather not ask.”

There was a knock. Acryoa said, “Sir?”

Wonder sighed, and glad he had a towel on. And Rose was still in a nightgown. “What’s up? And why can’t this be done via chat?”

Acryoa opened the door. “I wanted to show you something. One of your Myzune found it, and I think it is important.”

Wonder looked the book from Acryoa, and raised an eyebrow. “Is this…?”

“Yes. Or at least I think so. I could only read it for 10 minutes before developing a headache.”

Wonder opened it, and had to slam it close. “10 minutes. Acryoa, I’m getting a headache now.”

Acryoa blushed. “I underestimate the Myzune once more.”

“Yeah, but remember they are a species of knowledge as well as cuteness. Their brains are built pretty different.”

Taking a gamble, Wonder flipped through the book instead. He got a ton of images instead, but this was bearable. It must be his visual-based brain.

“This is a record of the Nightmare Realm. Where did the Myzune get this?”

Acryoa said, “Apparently, the local magic library. It was locked away, but when the scholars realized the Myzune could safely read it for 2 hours at a time, they agreed to let them bring it home to study in more detail and shifts.”

Acryoa shrugged. “When I realized what it was, I asked to look at it, then to show to you. They heartily agreed… apparently they were done with the thing and were just reviewing some of the pages for their god.”

Rose said, “Wonder… how can this help us?”

Wonder said, “One sec… there is something that badly bothers me about the whole invasion thing.”

Light, light, where’s the light…

Wonder flipped through again, looking for the pictures. Rose said, “Think Achylon is lying?”

“No. It’s more instinct, but I don’t think she is. But I think she may not have the… AH-HA!!! Is that who I think it is?!?”

He pointed to a certain picture he found. It was a female figure, with her hair sticking out like spikes. Or sun rays.

Rose blinked. “That’s… Lady Light. But a lot more horrifying.”

“I think we just found her true form.”

Rose blinked. “The firewalls never went down. Light was within the Nightmare Realm all along.”

Wonder nodded. “I’m betting one of the children of the children. A perfect combo attack.”

“But how did they get by Achylon?”

Wonder said, “I’m betting that Light left the Nightmare World to make her own way. If parents called her in…”

Rose said, “They could have timed it during setup and never told Achylon while she was distracted.”

Wonder nodded. “So they could attack within the firewalls. As well, Light could 100% be lazy since she’s already connected to the NRGS and it could do most of the work for her.”

Acryoa said, “The… oh. Nightmare Realm Gaming System.”

Wonder nodded. “Exactly. Good find, Acryoa. Have the Myzune send it up the chain of command. Beholder will decide what to do with the information.”

He closed the book. “I’ll tell Malchon, and see what he thinks.”

Rose said, “And just pray the plan works.”

“100% pray the plan works.”
