Extra - Is It a Phone Call if Phones Don't Exist? (King POV)

----------------------------------------

I put the communication crystal away in the drawer of my desk and took a sip from my glass of vilam. Once I placed it back on the desk, I looked at Alexander and said, “it seems that Viscount Granger’s town, Vilfori, saw quite a fierce battle today.”

“A monster horde?” He asked me.

“Almost, but not quite. A group of adventurers broke the contract the town had with a spirit in the forest and he commanded his treants to attack the town.”

“If you’re so calm it means everything went well, right?”

“Yes, apparently the Thorns of Mithril were there and solved the situation with the spirit in time.”

“Wait! Those Thorns of Mithril?” He said, bending forward towards me.

“Yes, I was told they are traveling to Tureg, I’d say that it’s only by sheer luck that they didn’t choose to continue their travel by boat once in Dulsalies.”

“I almost wish I was there. It doesn’t happen every day to see an orichalcum ranked party fight.”

“Certainly, them and Hero Fortuna fighting together must have been quite the show.”

“Oh, right, she was there too.”

“You still don’t like her, do you?”

“Do you? She’s just a deviant who likes screwing around.”

“That deviant, as you call her, accepted to help us unconditionally and has been training to do so for months with no complaint.”

“You weren’t defenestrated by her.”

“That… might have been too much but it’s not like you were really hurt.”

“There was stone under the snow! I was unconscious for two hours.”

“I thought you training every day with her would have brought you two closer to each other by now.”

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Well, we never really talked, she had her special training to follow after all.”

“You should have, if something happens to me during the war you’ll probably be the one who will have to deal with her.”

“Don’t say such things.”

“Does she scare you so much?”

“Don’t joke about it! You know what I meant.” He shouted.

“I appreciate that you care for me, but it’s a war, anything could happen and we have to be prepared. Which also means you should be prepared to move around the board a piece that will soon be able to destroy armies.”

“I can always leave her to… Raziel.” He said, looking away from me for a moment.

“Speaking of her…” I said and took the crystal connected to her out of the drawer to ask her to come to my office.

Not a few seconds had passed that she appeared from the shadows projected by the magic lamp on my desk.

“Is something the matter, sire?” She said.

“Did the hero tell you something she wouldn’t tell me about what happened today?”

“She hasn’t…” She took a crystal out of her dress, “she’s actually contacting me now. Do you mind if I answer?”

“No, please, go ahead.”

“Thank you,” she said and stepped away from the desk to talk into the crystal.

Only a few seconds of whispering had passed when she shouted “No!”

Both I and Alexander turned towards her, who was giving her back to us, just in time to hear her say “I said no! You can’t fuck an elven princess!”

As Alexander mouthed me “did I hear that right?” She shouted “what do you mean why?!”

I let my back fall against the backrest of my chair and just nodded to him as Raziel said to the crystal “fine, let’s do like this, for every time you do it with them tonight you’ll have to answer a question of mine. Deal?”

I took a sip from my glass as she said “yeah, yeah, I love you too.” before putting the crystal away.

She turned around, looked at us and, a bit hesitant, said “Your Majesty…”

“Thank you but I don’t want to know more than what I already heard,” I said, waving my hand in front of me.

“Thank you, I will take my leave then.”

At that moment Alexander sprang up from his chair and said “how can you be fine with something like that?”

“Your Highness, if I was a jealous woman neither you nor your father would be here now. I will take my leave now.” She said, before disappearing back in the shadows.

Alexander looked at the spot where she was before for a few seconds, then dropped on his chair and gulped down all the vilam that was still in his glass.

I laughed a bit and said “I never expected that my son would, one day,  be jealous of a woman.”

“Oh no, it’s not jealousy, I can finally genuinely admit I hate a person.”

“Don’t let that hatred misguide you.”

“Don’t worry, I still care for this kingdom more than I hate her.”

“That’s good to hear.”
