When Gavin saw the injured girl he reached into a pocket and took out the injection device. Several soldiers put their hands back on their weapons but the girl in charge barked an order and they stopped. She motioned with her hand for him to hand it over so he complied. She studied it for a minute then seemed satisfied and handed it back. Gavin mimicked injecting himself with the device then pointed at the hurt girl. The girl frowned but relented and allowed him to get closer. The injured girl’s helmet was off and she shared the same demonic characteristics. Although she was bruised and bloody, she was even prettier than the other demon girl.
She was still alive so he carefully injected her. At first there didn’t seem to be a change but then her skin which was even paler than the other girl started showing more color and she groaned but didn’t wake up. He was about to say something when a blast rocked the mech with a loud thumping sound. Gavin looked over as another shot missed the mech and landed on the other side of the carriage, sending flames and debris shooting into the sky. Gavin ducked down, covering his head as clumps of dirt rained down. “That was a little too close.” He muttered as the girl’s voice came from the mech’s speakers. “Get back here, they are firing cannons at us.”
Gavin glanced at the injured girl again as the other girl picked her up and started yelling at the soldiers. He had an idea but it probably wasn’t a very good one and he was sure the pilot would object. He got the attention of the girl then pointed at her and then him and then pointed up at the mech then gestured for her to follow him. She looked confused at first then seemed to understand as he gestured again for her to follow. She yelled some more orders and hurried after him, still carrying the injured girl. With all the armor, it had to be heavy but she showed no sign They reached the platform and Gavin made room. It was a tight fit and he was forced to put one hand around the girl’s waist and the other on the rail to anchor them. She was using both hands to carry the injured girl so couldn’t hold on herself. She glared at him but didn’t say anything.

Gavin smiled apologetically at the girl and pushed the button. The platform swayed and they were lifted back to the airlock. On the way up he could see the soldiers forming up and then riding off with the carriage, away from the mech. He frowned, then realized they must be trying to lead the enemy away. Another blast flew by but toward the carriage, so it seemed it was working. They reached the airlock and he ushered the girls inside. The girl grimaced as the gas was pumped in and out but said nothing. Gavin indicated that she should lay the injured girl down in the airlock since there wasn’t much room in the cockpit.
He continued into the cockpit and got into his seat. “Why did you bring them along?” The girl asked, glaring at him. “Sorry, I just thought it would be safer for them this way.” Gavin replied , withering under her glare. “Well it’s too late now I suppose. Hurry up and get us out of here.” The girl demanded, turning away from him with a huff. Gavin knew he would be scolded more later but then realized she could understand him now. “Can you understand me now?” He asked while moving the mech away from the battle and the retreating carriage. “Yes, your language isn’t that hard for the AI to figure out.” She replied, not looking at him.
“That’s great, it’ll make things a lot easier. When do you think the AI will be able to figure out their language?” He asked, glancing back toward the airlock. “We’ll need them to talk more so the AI has more samples to study, but it shouldn’t take long.” She replied. They crested a hill and started down the other side, which would hopefully shield them from the battle. It wouldn’t be too difficult to follow their tracks though and Gavin had no idea where to go. Just then, the uninjured girl cautiously entered the cockpit and looked around in wonder. Gavin hoped she would be able to guide them somewhere.
