When they reached the carriage Gavin expected there to be some celebrating but there seemed to be something serious going on. He stopped the mech and the people started waving frantically at them. The girl turned the speaker on and their voices came through but he still couldn’t understand the language. From the tone, it seemed like there was an emergency. They carried someone out of the carriage who looked badly injured. It looked like a girl from the long black hair and she was dressed in fancy armor. The armor was dented and had a bloody hole in the chest. One of her arms was also missing at the elbow. “Do you have some kind of fancy medical kit to help her” he typed out.
She looked at the message and shook her head. “Not that will help with those injuries. The only thing that would work would be to inject her with nanites like I did with you. I only have one dose left however and she would then know about the Talon like you do. It would be too risky since we don’t know anything about her.” She replied stubbornly. “She looks pretty important. If we save her, we will be sure to get a reward and be accepted by her faction.” Gavin argued back. “Plus, I’m sure you can lock the controls so she can’t use them. It’s not like you know anything about me either.” He continued with a wry smile.
The girl grimaced after reading his message then slumped in her seat and let out a long sigh. “Fine, you win but I’m not going out there. If you want to save her so badly you’ll have to do it yourself.” She said, tossing him the device she used on him. “Just inject it into her neck and it will keep her alive. The limb will grow back and she will heal but it will take time.” She explained. “Great, thanks!” Gavin said looking at the device. She glanced at him and he smiled, giving her a thumbs up. She grimaced again and looked away, shaking her head. “Whatever you do, hurry up. They are sure to send more troops after us and we need to get out of here.” She said, gesturing back toward the battlefield. “Right. Ok, I can do this.” Gavin said to himself, heading to the airlock door.

He cycled through the airlock and found himself outside the mech on a small platform. It was a lot higher up than it seemed from inside the cockpit. Gavin wasn’t sure how to get down but then noticed a button on the platform and tentatively pushed it. He swore and quickly grabbed onto the handrail as the platform jerked and started descending. One of the soldiers noticed him and started pointing. Soon a group of them were waiting for him below. He hung on tightly as the platform swayed in the breeze from the thin cable that was lowering him to the ground. All of the armored soldiers looked like they had taken a beating from the battle. He couldn’t tell what they looked like under the armor and helmets. Some had their hands on their swords which made him nervous. He was just wearing a t-shirt and jeans and had no weapons so probably didn’t look very impressive and certainly couldn’t defend himself.
Gavin was starting to second guess his decision as he reached the ground and was surrounded by the soldiers. “I’m here to help.” He said, smiling nervously and holding his palms out non-threateningly. A soldier with decorated armor removed the fanciful helmet to reveal a cute girl with pale skin, shoulder length black hair, red eyes, slightly pointed ears, and short black horns on her forehead that curved upwards. It seemed the helmets were shaped that way to accommodate their horns and not just for decoration. Now he was thinking he had really made a mistake and they were helping the demon lord’s army. The girl said something that he didn’t understand and motioned for him to follow. The other soldiers relaxed and took their hands off their weapons and made way for him. Gavin sighed and nervously followed as she led him to the carriage.
