Red Train

As Hayatsu's Regimen Marched on, Emma's perspective on things will help us get a better grip of how the nurses feel about this war.

Emma had been tasked to be a nurse on the mission there. However, she didn't like a few things:

First off, She didn't like the uniform she was given. It was a maid uniform with a Nexus Badge on it, and it made her breasts stand out.

She also didn't enjoy how poorly the other nurses treated her. Besides the People she knew, a lot of the other nurses made fun of her bright orange hair.

At the end of the day, the only thing that shined light in the dark tunnel was getting to talk to Hayatsu, Haganezuka, Aoi, and Akiko.

"I don't know how I feel about this. Honestly, I just wanted to be some use to everyone else..." Emma said. She was talking to Haganezuka while the regimen was still marching.

"And what makes you say that?" He answered neatly. "What makes you feel useless?"

This took Emma aback as she would have to recall her past.

"Well, I'll do my best to explain it... Back on earth, I felt like everyone was more useful than me. My Grandmother was a famous chemist. My grandfather was an admiral in the navy. My father was a famous book author, and even my mother did such a good job at nursing me that I don't think there was a single moment of self-doubt of her love."

"Where are you going with this?"

"We'll... That all changed when I realized that I had done nothing to help my family, or even my friends. I was just... There.... And I felt so useless.

One day at the train station, I noticed that a young boy's toy train fell onto the track. He gave chase to it, and his parents fell on a wedge and tangled in each other, knocking there heads out on the concrete. Scared for the boy's life, I ran onto the track, picking the boy, still holding that red train in his hand.

But as I was about to put him back onto the pavement, a train came by and...Well, I ended up here..."

Haganezuka thought for a moment.

"Well, It seems that you saved the boy's life. Isn't that useful?"

Emma immediately felt a jerk in her stomach.

"Well, remember...I got hit by the train, and... well... Because I was holding the boy... He came down with me..."

Emma's heart sank, remembering how she'd failed to save another boy's life while taking her own...

"So, In a way...I feel like me being a nurse is me being useful...Being a use to the world...."

Suddenly Haganezuka started to grin.

"Emma, You said the boy also died with you, correct?"

"Yes... So, what does that have to do with anything?......"

Suddenly Emma started to smile a big smile as well. It was a smile of realization.

"You don't mean...."

"Yes. That mean's that the boy must be here. Somewhere here."

Emma immediately gave Haganezuka a big hug, before sprinting off to deliver the news to everyone else.
