BOOK TWO - Chapter One - Goodbye

Brick gave me a scorching kiss that sizzled right down my nerve endings, and I moaned into his mouth as his tongue wrestled with my own. He tasted of heat, lust, and desperation.

“Brick,” I repeated his name once he released my mouth, trailing kisses down my neck and sucking my flesh, leaving a hot bruise behind right over my pheromone pores. “Oh, Brick!”

No matter how often we made love, I still hadn’t gotten accustomed to the overwhelming sensations that my new succubus body succumbed to, and it took my breath away every time.

His elbows came to rest next to my head and he kissed me with lazy, loving kisses, his eyes worshiping me as I let out a sated laugh.

“I’m going to miss you,” Brick’s voice was a low rumble, and I felt the vibrations through his stomach where it lay atop mine.

“I’m going to miss you more,” I said, reality crashing back to me. “You’ve been everything to me, Brick. My guide, my friend, my lover… How am I supposed to get by without you? Are you sure I can’t come with you?”

He shook his head. “It’ll only be a month. You’ll be better off here, and you’ve got Kira for company. She’ll keep you safe.”

“Kira’s a jerk though,” I whined. “And what if you need me? I’ll be super mad if you get yourself killed.”

“Then I promise not to get killed,” Brick chuckled. “Besides, we’re going near Necromancer Heights. An orc and an elf won’t be anything of interest to the necromancers, but I want you to stay well away from there.”

I pouted and sighed, but I remembered what I’d heard about necromancers using succubus body parts for their imbued life magic, and so conceded.

“Hurry back to me,” I pleaded. “I don’t know what to do without you.”

It was an understatement, really. Although I’d started to feel at home in this world I’d mysteriously fallen into – my real-world boyfriend’s Fantasy Dungeons fanfiction, if my guess was correct – the things I didn’t know about this world still far outweighed the things that I did know.

“You’ll be fine,” Brick said calmly. “You’ve got Kira to talk to, and you can go visit Lily. Besides, our other comrades may turn up yet, and then you’ll have more company. Bruiser, Nightfall and Jackal were all meant to be on their way when we first got here, so they’re already late.”

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

That was a meeting I’d never forget. I’d only just arrived in Isekai Village and was drinking a totally overpriced ale when Brick burst in through the door, carrying his bleeding brother and demanding a Healer – which I apparently was, except I’d only been Level One at the time and had no idea what I was doing.

But I’d healed Bastion, Brick’s adoptive wood elf brother, and we’d been practically inseparable since. I never set out to acquire a fictional orc boyfriend but now that I had him, I didn’t want to ever let him go – even if it was just for a month while he and Bastion retrieved the rest of their loot from a hidden safe house so we could put a deposit down on a real house.

Ah, home ownership, another reason to stay in this fantasy world instead of returning to my boring accounting job, overpriced rental and idiot boyfriend who was definitely getting dumped the second I laid eyes on him.

He’d never held a candle to Brick, and despite the fact that succubi in this world were reputed to collect harems of lovers like some sort of weird pyramid scheme, I felt absolutely certain I was going to break the mold and live happily ever after with Brick – and I suppose Bastion would live in our attic, moping over how Lily broke his heart until the end of time.

But a Happily Ever After with Brick? That was worth a month of waiting.

“Bastion’s expecting me downstairs in five minutes,” Brick whispered, and I felt my heart twinge with longing.

“I’m going to miss you so much,” I repeated, my heart feeling tight.

“I better make it a good five minutes then,” Brick growled. “Want to give me some extra luck for the road?”

I gasped as he nipped my neck, one of his large canines scraping my collarbone, and whispered my consent.

I suspected there was some anatomic difference with a succubus body that made me extra sensitive to these kinds of ministrations. Lust started rising back up within me again from some hidden reserve of energy I never knew I had, and I almost growled in frustration.

I craved him like I’d never craved anything before. I’d happily throw all the chocolate on Earth into the sun if I could just have him.

“Brick, please,” I begged, and he sent me one of his charming, smug grins…

I lost all sense of time and space again until a loud pounding sound caused Brick to retreat.

The door burst open, and a very annoyed Bastion stood in the frame, glaring at us.

“Really?” the wood elf spat. “Have you no self-control? You said you were just going to say goodbye, but you’re up here at it again? You were supposed to meet me downstairs ten minutes ago!”

Brick shrugged and squeezed my calf. “Whoops?”

“Get downstairs, we’re going,” Bastion demanded, scowling.

“Bye Bast, have a good trip,” I waved cheerfully at him, but he just bared his teeth at me and stalked down the stairs. I guess he still didn’t trust me after his own dreadful experience with his succubus ex-girlfriend.

“He’ll warm up to you when he knows you’re not going anywhere,” Brick said, giving me a light kiss on the lips. “Plus, he’s annoyed I’ve left him waiting. Just give it time.”

“I will,” I promised. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” he whispered. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

And then he was gone.
