154. The Anger Part 2

What Orin will accomplish by destroying this building will be how he moves the suburbanite human commoners to action.

It's not like only demihumans live in this building. There are a surprising number of humans who live here too, at least a third of the building's residents in fact. If it is reported by a major news publication that a third of the building's residents are human, the humans living within their gated neighborhoods within this city will start to feel unsettled.

All it takes is a scratch for all those safe citizens to become rabid animals.

They will start to believe that things are not what they used to be, that things are getting worse. But, at the same time, they're moderately wealthy. They're not going to approve solutions that would result in their wealth being drained to provide for social services to actually address poverty.

They certainly won’t wish for anything that would result in demihumans living better lives. They’re the sons and daughters of slave masters after all, growing fat off the excess wealth they inherited from their cruel ancestors. They might not even attribute this terror attack to human supremacists like the members of the Twin Moons.

This is when the good stuff starts to happen. The well-fed and comfortable gated community dwellers will want the guards to crack down on homeless people, demihumans in particular. There will be campaigns about demihumans and the homeless being the biggest threat to peace and security within this city.

The Baron isn't going to ignore things like that. He's going to use his authority to force demihumans to be further separated from humans, further alienated and despised. He might move them out of the city.

Or, more likely, he'll move them into work camps that he can use to keep producing war supplies for his army and the others in neighboring noble territories. He might not use the word 'slavery' but that's all it is… heh.

Orin can't help but be giddy about this outcome. It might not take just this terror attack to force wealthy humans to feel unsafe, to look towards a charismatic figure for safety and support. But, it's definitely going to help. He doesn't mind if his name isn't written in the history books. He's going to return the world to a state of human supremacy, as it should be.

Perhaps if he’s lucky, it will be even better than it will in its ten thousand years of strength. His descendants would thank him.

There.

Orin sees the man, the Abnormal, open the door to the hallway. All eight Twin Moon members are looking directly at the man’s face. He's prepared. He’s completely uninjured. He's not going to hesitate like he did with Karise, Orin is sure of that.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

He's going to kill us all. This is certainly exciting…

Orin smiles. He gives his instructions verbally this time.

"Kill him."

His subordinates start sprinting towards their target at a speed beyond natural human strength. The opponent reciprocates.

Meanwhile, Orin drinks the last two vials of his formula. He's not going to be humiliated this time.

Ajax sees a blonde man at the end of the hallway. He is the man who he remembers meeting with that woman who he had killed. He had the man in a sleeper hold. He is the target, he must be. Ajax sees the man drinking two vials as the man's subordinates rush to meet him in battle.

They seem to be protecting him so he's likely the most important person, the one who will set themselves on fire today.

So, those vials are drunk. Does he explode immediately? Either way…

He ignores the seven people running towards him and immediately rushes at top speed towards his opponent. He has tunnel vision as his sight cuts off everything other than that blonde man.

Step by step he feels like he can prevent a tragedy. His heart pumps wildly. He absorbs energy from his surroundings through his skin and through his feet every step he takes. The air of the hallway instantly chills. However, Ajax doesn’t absorb too much energy, just in case his ability to bring the cold reaches into the apartment units.

He would rather not have any innocent people frozen due to his negligence and inability to know the limits of his own power.

Yet, a few steps before he can kill the blonde man, he feels blinding pain. He experiences his belly being stabbed with a sharp blade through his left side. The blade enters through his side and tries to exit through his abdomen but isn't deep enough to.

At the same time he feels another blade of a different width puncture the space between two of his ribs and if he's not mistaken, one of his kidneys is impaled.

His mind sends him blaring warnings that something is not as it is supposed to be.

When… did they draw their blades? How could they move fast enough to stab me in the middle of my run!?

If the blades were coming from in front of him, he would have batted them away. But, the two swords that drew his blood struck him from the sides while he was running at his transcendent speed. He prevents himself from face-planting as his right foot holds himself up off the floor.

Without wasting any time, Ajax grabs the arm of the man still holding his sword to Ajax's left as well as the shoulder of the man to his right. He doesn't know how they could have moved fast enough to stab him in the sides like that, but they weren't fast enough to dodge him this time. Within half a second, both men are frozen solid, their heat completely absorbed by Ajax.

Luckily for him, though these men have used body enhancement magic, they were both not as used to their new speed as Ajax is and they were forced to use pure reflex to even know that they could stab him in that moment. He is still faster than them and more acclimated to his own speed.
