Chapter 6: Noble family

Chapter 6: Noble family

"I don't understand what you mean." The man beside him turned the newspaper to another page. He didn't pay attention to Leon at all.

"Well, I can only thank you for your reminder. I'm new to this city and don't have much I can give as thanks" Leon spoke very fluently as if he was born and lived in this world since he was born. With this knowledge, it would save him a lot of trouble due to the language being so different from his home world.

"Didn't I tell you that I don't understand what you said." The man put down the newspaper in his hand. "You suddenly came here and sat beside me while thanking me. Don't involve me with Rosemary's family, I don't really like how that family works."

"If you don't want to admit it, I won't bring this matter up again. But I'm a little curious about Rosemary's family. I just arrived in this city and don't have much knowledge about this."

"Why do you want to know about them so much?"

"There's no particular reason, maybe it would be interesting to hear a little story during my journey. Moreover, I became quite interested in them when a girl suddenly proposed to me when I just arrived in this city."

"Traveller? You better look in the mirror a little when you're about to say that." The man looked at Leon who was sitting beside him. Saying that he was a traveler was a bit of an understatement considering how Leon was dressed.

He wore a black suit that appeared to be tailored with extreme precision. Not only that, the black suit on his body blends perfectly with the white suit and the glasses and cane in his hand. Her slightly loose hair also really matches the color of the suit itself.

He really wasn't a traveler. He looked more like an important person from somewhere visiting Maple City.

Leon only answered in a friendly tone. "Everyone has their own aesthetic. I hope my way of dressing won't be considered too strange."

The man ignored what Leon said. "I can't say much, only that Rosemary's family has unique traditions. Every boy born into their family will be forced to marry women who have high magical talents. The women of the Rosemary family are the same, only their requirements are stricter, and are required to find a partner before the age of 20. Otherwise, they will be thrown out of the Rosemary family and their lives will not be good."

"I don't see any problem with that."

"Are you seriously saying that?" The man looked at Leon with a strange look. "If you don't know, those who belong to the noble families of the Pendragon kingdom or anyone who is related by marriage or who joins them will be forced to be drawn into the political competition in this kingdom."

"This is a very bad thing and is avoided by many magus especially because the political rivalry of this kingdom is known to be very bloody. Death is a common thing to know and the worst thing is that your freedom will be taken away."

"Because of the many deaths that occurred in politics in this kingdom, many noble families forced their descendants to find partners and increase their armies. Of course, not all noble families act like this but they are only a small part and belong to the weak noble families that can be ignored."

"So that's why the girl came and asked whether I had a partner or not."

This tradition is quite strange, but you could say it will be quite effective if you look at it in the long term. In an instant, Leon could see that the nature of this policy which emphasized inheritance and succession to the kingdom was determined by the power possessed by the noble families. Of course, there is a reason why the Pendragon kingdom carries out politics like this. Something that forced the Pendragon kingdom to take this drastic step was definitely not something simple.

"But I was surprised that you were able to attract the attention of one of Maple City's jewels." The man said in an interested tone.

"You mean Alice Rosemary? Is there anything special about that woman?"

The man just shrugged his shoulders. "Not many. One of the qualities that a woman has is only her beauty but nothing else. The talent can be said to be low because they can only form the second ring despite all the resources they have."

"If the woman was born into another family, perhaps her fate would only be as a lowly servant or a slave to warm the bed. But she was lucky enough to be born into a noble family and it was pure misfortune that she was born into Rosemary's family."

"She can be safe until now because she still holds the name of the Rosemary family so no one dares touch her. But she also had to experience difficulties due to her low talent when she tried to find a partner to stay in the Rosemary family."

Leon became more interested as this conversation continued. The two continued talking for several hours before Leon had to continue with what he had planned. He also got a lot of information from this man named Hugo.

"This was an interesting meeting. I hope we can meet again if fate allows it." Leon thanked Hugo and walked away. Didn't notice Hugo's gaze directed at Leon.

"Interesting guy." He just shook his head and continued reading his newspaper.

Meanwhile, Leon strolled around Maple City taking in the beauty of Maple City. Even though he didn't have any money in his pocket at the moment, it wasn't a very urgent problem at the moment.

What he was worried about was how to get him to carry out this quest. Finding 5 people with the Great Destiny trait is not easy. Overcoming him and getting him to join the magic Tower of Babel was even more difficult.

Leon sat on one of the benches along the road. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. Every time he took a breath, the cool, refreshing air filled his entire body and helped calm his mind.

Until now, he couldn't see clearly how difficult the nightmare difficulty level was. What he saw right now was just a peaceful city with political feuds that he could avoid by avoiding them.

"Maybe I was too hasty. Rather than worrying about that problem, I'd better find a place where I can practice comfortably. And also…" Leon fell silent as he looked at the system screen in front of him.

[A person with the Traits Great Destiny is detected near you.]

Has someone been detected? Who???

Leon was shocked and immediately looked to his left and right. There wasn't anything particularly special that caught his attention or rather, Leon couldn't see who the person who had the Traits of Great Destiny was. If it weren't for the system telling him, Leon wouldn't have noticed.

"It's too crowded here. I can't tell who has the Great Destiny trait and who doesn't." Leon sat up and sighed softly inside his head.

"Damn, if you guys are planning to recruit someone at least do it properly, damn the Betlam family." A man sat beside Leon, grumbling and talking to himself. His face was red with anger and the aura of a magus was released into the air.

Leon felt a terrifying pressure descending on him and felt like it was about to crush his body. But, no one around cared about this person. Leon endured the pressure without changing his expression in the slightest while focusing on listening to the grumbling of the person sitting next to him.

"I studied magic for 10 years and you dare to belittle me in front of a child. Bastards, if it weren't for the rules of the Pendragon kingdom itself, I would definitely kill you all."

"How dare that little bastard say that I am just a lowly magus." The man got even angrier and released all the power he had. Leon got up and immediately moved away from the bench because he felt uncomfortable.

"3 rings, He is just a magus with 3 rings. For someone his age in this world, this progress is quite slow." the people around him glanced at the man who looked almost in his 30s and was still nagging to this day. They seemed unfazed by the pressure from the men and even looked down on them.

Those who were weaker didn't say anything and continued with their respective work and activities.

Leon glanced at the Mansion in front of him. The angry man from earlier walked out of there, and there were a few people who went in as well.

"For someone like him to want to work in the Betlam family, especially as a tutor for the third young master, he is simply embarrassing himself."

"Even if you don't have the qualifications, it's better if you stay out of trouble and stay away from the noble families. Even though they are a great existence, joining them is the same as seeking death."

"That's right, even if the Betlam family almost lost their status as nobles of the Pendragon kingdom, but still their status is that of a noble."

Around him, people were also discussing this matter. On the other hand, Leon listened to all the conversations without making the slightest comment.
