Chapter 22: Uncontrollable curiosity

Chapter 22: Uncontrollable curiosity

"No, actually there is another way. It's just…" Leon thought of another possibility but this would make Balak wary of him again.

It would be better if I confirmed it first. Leon immediately teleported to the Babel Domain and arrived at the library.

The books that were originally still like inanimate objects suddenly vibrated while showing the spirit they possessed. The tower leader coming to the floor they were on was already such a great honor.

Some of the best books immediately headed towards Leon and floated around him. They worshiped Leon as the leader of the Tower of Babel.

Moreover, the image of millions of ultimate knowledge appearing on the 1st floor still left a deep mark on the books as if they saw their idols and were proud that among them they could be used as the basis of that ultimate knowledge.

"You really look like living creatures even though it's just a book." Leon warmly looked at the books flying around him. He didn't take any of them because what he needed wasn't them.

"System, is it possible for me to bring out one of the books from the library?"

[With the authority you have, you are allowed to take books out of this library. However, you will be held responsible if the book is lost.]

[When that happens, the System will assess the impact it will cause and if necessary will give the Host a Quest to reclaim the book. Of course, the Host can choose to refuse to carry out the Quest]

Leon thought about it for a while while playing with the wand in his hand. "Didn't the magic tower of Babel prohibit the spread of the knowledge they had?"

[Of course not. But the host must know that your current strength is insufficient for the great changes this world will bring if the knowledge from the magic tower of Babel spreads widely. The host can sell some of the knowledge you have, but keep in mind that the system is not responsible for future problems.]

"That is enough." Leon put aside the system screen and looked at the books located in this library.

"I need a basic summoning book. Prioritize those with light requirements." Leon spoke and over a hundred thousand books floated in the air.

They all seemed to be telling Leon that what he wanted was with them. Several books even fought over each other just to get closer to Leon.

Leon read the introductions one by one and decided to choose one of the books called Basics of Blood Summoning.

The plan that Leon thought of for this wasn't actually a definite solution to this problem. After all, the problem lay in that Leon's strength was currently quite low, and there weren't many ways to speed up the progress of the techniques he was practicing.

So Leon thought about summoning a Familiar and forming a contract that could help Leon in increasing his fighting power.

"With this, if I am forced to fight, I can tell my contracted Familiars to prepare to fight. The traces and mistakes I leave behind will be much less and I can persist until I have enough strength."

There were some other plans he had in mind for him to carry out but they could only be executed until he reached Tier 1 Magus. Leon could only summon using the Blood Summoning method after becoming a Tier 1 magus.

"It seems that I will have to hold off on recruiting Slaves easily." Leon shook his head and returned all the books floating in the air back to their places.

Why doesn't Leon just recruit ordinary people in this world?

It's not that he doesn't want to, but the advice the system gives on nightmare difficulty is not to recruit people carelessly. If Leon recruited people openly, then the possibility of leaking information regarding the knowledge possessed by the Magic Tower of Babel would be very large. And Leon didn't want to see that happen.

"It's better to develop secretly first. But don't hide everything. I have to create a mysterious prejudice regarding the magic Tower of Babel and prevent more people from acting rashly."

Leon returned to his room in the Betlam mansion. He immediately practiced the technique and as quickly as possible entered the Tier 1 magus stage.

Two days later, Leon slowly opened his eyes. His body once again gave off the fragrance of musk.

He was currently getting closer to reaching Magus Tier 1. It was only a matter of time before he reached Tier 1. But Leon had to stop it for now and do his duty.

Leon immediately cleaned his face and walked out. Outside, Bella was waiting for him along with Felix.

While walking, Felix talked to Leon about many things. He told many things like how he could form his fourth ring, how far he could use his magic, and many other things.

Leon saw him as a child trying to get praise from his parents by showing off his report card grades. His behavior was quite adorable and cute when seen from Leon's point of view.

Well, he's only 5 years old. Even if he had such vast knowledge or formed his fourth ring, he was only a child.

It would be strange if he didn't act like this.

Felix asked curiously. "Mr. Leon, you mentioned earlier that the knowledge you have comes from the tower. But when I looked for it and read a little history in the library, I didn't find anything."

Leon didn't answer and only showed a small smile. He rubbed Felix's head with his hand and said nothing.

They arrived at the previous room and Leon started to let Felix ask questions. Of course, he only answered questions related to what to study. Leon did not answer questions asking about his identity or the organization behind him.

When he was finished, Felix saw Leon leaving the room. Even so, his hands were still taking notes on the material taught by Leon as if he was afraid that he would forget what Leon taught him.

Even so, his curiosity grew increasingly uncontrollable. He asked about Leon and the Tower organization, but Leon was silent and didn't answer.

To see something unknown and feel the feeling that someone could hide a secret from him, was truly his first time feeling this way.

The excitement and curiosity he had grew and continued to grow. Even Balak didn't know this side of Felix.

While rubbing his eyes, Felix finally put the pen in his hand. "I still can't see it. Maybe what I did was wrong. Looking continuously at a person I can't even see isn't going to make me suddenly see through Mr.Leon."

"I need another way." Felix talked inside his head while planning what he should do next.

During the lesson, he had been using his eyes on Leon non-stop. While continuing to listen to Leon's explanation, Felix kept looking at Leon without looking away.

Because of this, his eyes became very tired and his vision became blurry. Mr. Leon was forced to stop studying and let Felix rest.

Because of this, 10 hours of study are only used to answer one question.

"Hmm… Maybe my approach was wrong?" Felix started thinking about it and soon got various kinds of inspiration that convinced him to pursue the right path.

"If I develop these eyes by seeing through other people's futures, not just fragments of existing futures but seeing the entire future as it happens… no that won't work." Felix shook his head. Even though it was an idea he thought was correct, he wasn't sure whether it was dangerous or not.

The warning given by Leon when he tried the magic he thought up based on the power of the eyes he observed kept echoing in his head as if reminding him that what he was trying to do was dangerous.

Very dangerous.

The problem is, that I don't have any magic techniques to back it up or any research I can use as a reference. If I just innovated according to what my intuition told me, it would be too dangerous.

Researching the power of this eye is also too dangerous. Without basic knowledge, I would just be like a blind man trying to solve a labyrinth in the dead of night who lost both hands.

Just imagine for yourself how difficult it is.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't have a choice. Felix immediately returned to his room.

Today, he was quite calm and quiet the entire way.

In Balak's office, Leon sat in a chair while enjoying a cup of fresh lemon ice. Even though the taste wasn't as good as Midnight Inn's, Leon still drank it.

"This is the pay for this week. I hope you won't be disappointed even though the pay isn't that much." Balak handed Leon 10,000 Coins and a black liquid.

This is another compensation from Balak for listening to the knowledge that Leon taught Felix. Even though he wasn't with the two, Balak certainly had a way of looking inside and listening to Leon.

"What's this?" Leon took a vial containing a black liquid that looked like mucus.

Balak answered while drinking a cup of iced lemon. "It is a valuable mineral that develops over many years underground. Due to its slime-like nature, it is very difficult to cultivate as a magical tool. Our family only uses this item as a catalyst and link in creating magic formations."

"This thing has excellent Mana conductivity. In the hands of an Alchemist, this mineral can be used as a good material or weapon. If the maker is great, then this could be a very useful magic tool."

"I gave it some because maybe it will be useful for you."

Leon nodded and immediately came up with an idea to make use of it.

What he lacked currently apart from pure strength was equipment.

The set of clothes he was currently wearing were just ordinary clothes that had no special features in battle. Apart from several useless features such as preventing dirt on clothes, comfort to wear, temperature control, and automatic repair if damage occurs. That is it.

The defense of this suit was completely zero.

Does Leon know about Alchemy? Of course not.

But that didn't mean that Leon couldn't make use of this item. Balak has given another good item to Leon.

"I will make good use of this."
