Chapter 5: A Chance.

Chapter 5: A Chance.

Chapter 5: A Chance.

What are Ones?

A question subject to great debate, though there is an answer accepted by most.

Personifications.

From the most mundane to the Fundamentals of the universe, Ones are concepts that either gained sentience or beings that gained supremacy over one.

But living beings have a limit, a thin line between sentience and power.

For there are concepts that are so strong that gaining sentience is impossible.

The laws of Heaven cannot have someone equal to it, though that does not stop those concepts from existing.

How?

Well just don't get them sentience!

In this universe, these are artifacts that even the most primordial Ones are afraid of.

Objects that can create or break all world reasons.

The Origin-class.

Items crystallized from the origin of concepts, the foundation of fundamentals.

There are two concepts that the Ones accepted as the part of Origin-class

The Beginning and The End.

Concepts of omnipotence, the origin of all creation.

Few concepts come close to reaching this height and most accept these two as the only Origin-class there is.

But little do they know, there is another one, a concept everyone knows yet no one can stop.

Something that can rival the Beginning and End.

The universe's sole constant.

Change.

*****

The Die of Probability.

An item of irrationality.

An object most forbidden, even by the standard of Outer Ones.

Some may call it a bug, an error to this universe, for its existence, is something that no One can tolerate.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Drawing power from the illusive Origin of Change, the Die of Probability can change anything, there is no outcome it cannot alter.

There is one small problem though.

The Die of Probability was used only 3 times in the history of the universe.

And all three uses caused a great uproar.

In its first use, it caused the fall of the mythical Primordial Celestial Dominator, Ending the First Empire.

The second use caused the death of the Eternal One.

Finally, the third use ended the First Great War between the Celestial and Outers, along with the demise of the Everpresent One.

With every roll, the Die of Probability will bring a great change, for better but most likely, for worse.

Who rolled the Die behind these feats you ask?

Well, in an order;

Primordial Celestial Dominator

The Eternal One

And The Everpresent One.

Arengi heaved another sigh before speaking again.

"That is a rather creative way of committing suicide."

Tsk, oh really?

"I strive to better myself each day "

I say in a pleasant tone, and after hearing so, Arengi pulls something out of His pocket.

"This farce had gone on long enough."

He said as he threw something towards me.

Catching it, it appears to be a coin. A classic gold coin specifically, depicting a sword on one side and a shield on the other.

"What's this?"

I question Arengi, feeling something odd about this situation. Perhaps noticing that, He speaks in a surprisingly soft tone.

"Old man, this one may actually succeed so take that with you, think of it as a token of good luck."

Sus, but knowing this guy, He probably won't answer even if asked twice.

Before I could think of another question, Arengi turned His back on me and said.

"It was fun, old man."

He vanished.

"This brat."

I spit as I begin to activate [Travel] again, the tattoo glows and I close my eyes.

Was that a death flag?

Was my random thought as I traversed a million miles with a step.

*****

On a planet somewhere.

Cold winds blow against a cottage in a mountainside, surrounded by various flowers, the cottage's white walls seem divine when viewed from below the mountains.

The cottage, created with priceless wood from an Ash Tree, is currently enveloped in a heavy atmosphere.

The birds had long stopped chirping and the insects had quieted down, the only sound was the relentless whistle of the winds, uncaring to the world.

That is until even the winds were made silent by a presence beyond comprehension.

Inside the cottage, a man and woman sit before each other, both having smiles on their faces, though the woman's don't reach her eyes.

For in her eyes were unconcealed hate and disgust.

Minutes pass as they stare at each other, showing no signs of moving, they just smile at one another.

Red meets red as they continue this for an hour.

Finally, the woman couldn't take it anymore and spoke.

"It's been a while Arengi. What brings you my abode?"

Arengi shook his head, still smiling, he stroked his chin and said.

"Is it wrong to visit my sister once in a while?"

The woman's face twitched, unsure whether which was worse, him actually coming here for that or him daring to use that as an excuse.

"I see."

Arengi just smiled at her, as if he was waiting for something.

Silence again fills the room, the woman sighs, expecting another staring contest.

Then it happened.

The woman felt it, a power far beyond even her began to envelop the River of Time.

She looks at Arengi, seemingly realizing something.

The woman's smile vanishes, and suddenly, an intense gust of wind rages within the room, making her long black hair flutter like a vengeful shadow while hostility fills her eyes.

"What are you up to?"

The woman says in a cold voice, devoid of any emotion, yet one could feel a piercing anger concealed within it.

Arengi just shrugs, shaking his head before saying.

"Wrong question, it's "What is he up to"."

Confusion fills the woman's eyes as she says.

"He? Who ar-"

The woman pauses and gives Arengi a look.

Arengi nods, understanding her meaning.

Seeing that, she takes a deep breath.

And released a shout that resounded throughout the Heavens, a shout full of emotion, a contrast to her usual stoic face.

"NOT FLIPPING AGAIN!"

Flipping a table while at it, the woman immediately stood up and prepared to leave.

All the while, Arengi's laughter filled the room.
