Chapter 24 - Forgive Me Father, For I Have Sinned

Chapter 24 - Forgive Me Father, For I Have Sinned

The world was unfair, that’s something Rob had realized way back in his first incarnation before he even got reincarnated into that damnable cultivation world.

He stared at the young girl in front of him, sitting on a wooden chair with starry blue eyes. Above her blond hair, Rob saw a warm holy pillar of light, like a miniature sun of holiness. With Fortune Stealer, Rob was able to quantify that level of luck into a certain number, an absurd number.

10-S… In a month, her luck had risen by ten times. Rob scratched his chin as his intense gaze caused the young girl to shift around on her chair uncomfortably.

“Your parents were farmers, right?” Rob asked with a suspicious gaze. Even a dumbass would be suspicious to have two normal farmers with no apparent talent in magic give birth to someone as talented as her. Maybe she’s an orphan?

“Mmm! And I had helped out at the farm since I was five, so I-“

“Shhh, you don’t have to worry,” Rob chuckled and rested his head on his arm with a grin. “You’re pretty lucky to have found me, or perhaps I was lucky to find you? Heh, the professors at this school continuously praised your Holy Magic to no end, so you must have felt like you have no chance at becoming a botanist, right?”

“How… did you know,” Holly asked with widened eyes.

Since young, she had wanted to become a botanist and research plants so she can help all of the farmers in the world. She wanted to create new and better vegetables, tastier fruits, and most importantly, help her parents out on the farm!

She didn’t expect that when she did the entrance exam for the Vizwel Royal Academy on a whim since it was for free, they would uncover her incredibly high talent for Holy Magic and had all of her expenses covered so she can live in the Royal Capital and study in that prestigious school.

Because of this, her parents faced some difficulties without her presence and her need for money, so she began to feel guilty and worried for them. She tried looking for jobs, but because of school and other reasons, she didn’t have the time to look for one. But, this notice came out of nowhere, a notice that can potentially solve most of her problems.

“Heh, how did I know?” Rob muttered with a playful grin. “Magic.”

“Uh…” Holly was at a loss for words for his unserious answer. She didn’t expect the person who had defeated Leo Regulus to be this eccentric.

“Okay, okay. Let’s get serious.” Rob coughed and straightened his back. Holly subconsciously did the same as her anxiety began to spike.

“So, you have zero experience in botany but have years of experience helping out your parents on a farm. If we were to say the experience can help you out in refining your knowledge and skill in botany, then sure, I can go with that.”

“And since I’ve prepared for something like this, I’ll throw some more into the deal.” Rob smiled and, from his bag, pulled out a stack of papers and passed it towards Holly.

She received it carefully and read the words written on it. The more she read, the brighter the glow in her eyes became. “This…”

“You’re not joking about this?” Holly stared at Rob as her thoughts turned chaotic. Please let this be real! Please let this be real!

“It’s as real as God existing,” Rob chuckled at his own corny joke and retrieved the stack of papers from Holly.

“You’re really gonna allow me to join the Alchemist Guild? You’re really gonna fund my study in botany?” Holly asked excitedly as her arms and legs trembled.

“I’ll even help you train in your Holy Magic. You might not know this, but Holy Magic users are one of the most sought talents in the botany industry since you can use Holy Magic on plants. It’s kind of like an industry secret hidden by those little… scumbags,” Rob explained with a grin. ‘Fucking expensive ass liars. Soon… soon! I’ll have my own holy magic botanist and I’ll be able to sell my potions at astronomical prices!’

“Wait wait wait… Holy Magic on plants?” Holly was bewildered.

“In the same way you can give buffs on other people or heal their wounds, the same can be done to plants. You can bless plants, speed up their growth, and guarantee the creation of high-quality herbs!” Rob laughed. “You’re not just born for Holy Magic, you’re born to revolutionize botany and agriculture!”

“R-Revolutionize botany and agriculture…” Holly muttered with a newfound glimmer in her bright blue eyes. “Revolutionize farming…”

“Are you sure… I can do those things, the things you just said?” Holly muttered.

“Of course, of course.” Rob grinned as he watched the holy light on top of her hand shimmer and glow more brightly than before. “The only thing left for you is to grab this Opportunity of a lifetime.”

Holy Magic… I thought you were a curse at first, but to think you can actually help me reach my dreams! Not just Mama and Papa, I’ll help change the entire world with my magic!

“Heh, sure, why not!” Holy smiled and stretched out her hand.

“Good! Good!” Rob repeated the word good twice as he grabbed her head with a big wide grin. “But since there are so many benefits, all of your products would have to be sold at a 20% discount for me. I’ll bring the contract tomorrow.”

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“T-Twenty percent?!”

“What? You don’t want to revolutionize the entire world? To bring the golden era with your magic?” Rob teased as he slowly stood up.

“Nnnggh!” Holly puffed up her cheeks and pouted. “Hmph, you sure are greedy, Rob Fortune!”

Rob looked back at her and wore a devilish grin. “I’m not greedy, I’m just getting my end of the deal.”

Inside a tranquil library, Rob finished whipping up their contract and placed the magical pen back in the ink container. He slowly stood up with a groan as he stretched his stiff body. As he stared at the sky through the window, he silently sighed at the setting sun and checked the time. 5:13 pm.

“Ugh, it took half an hour to finish.” Rob yawned and carefully placed the contract into his bag. This world has magical televisions, but not a typewriter. Although a floating pen that can write on its own is indeed more efficient. But I don’t have one, and the school library doesn’t have one either.

Shaking his head, he walked out of the surprisingly crowded library where he can see tens of students at a random glance, and headed for the main entrance of the school. The school was still lively even at this time, with students roaming around campus, either eating some snacks, enjoying their time with their lovers, or taking an afternoon jog.

There was actually a dormitory at this school where students can live for free. He just learned that Holly Lavestine had been living there since school started, so he could theoretically head there and sign the contract already, but Rob is too mentally exhausted to deal with any ol’ contract right now.

What he wanted is to relax, eat at a nice restaurant, buy some ice cream or a nice cool drink, go back home, and sleep. If he instead pushed himself to his limits every single day to acquire power as fast as possible, then wouldn’t it be just the same as his previous incarnations, his previous lives full of agony and suffering?

He was here to enjoy the smooth sailing life of a lucky bastard, not the excruciating life of a normal man with no plot armor or golden finger.

So, enjoyment it was.

But first, let’s sell this diamond! Rob smirked as he used his divine sense to inspect the clear and smooth ball inside his pocket. Ten gold coins… ten gold coins!

Rob walked out of a certain jewelry store, and in his hands laid a handful of shimmering coins. They were gold coins. Gold coins!

Oh, my sweet precious babies! Hahaha! Twenty gold coins, twenty gold coins! Rob cackled in his mind as he placed those gold coins back into his pockets.

Sigh, if only this world was a bit dumber than it is, then I could endlessly produce gold coins through alchemy. Sadly, they had placed magical markings on every single coin that circulates the economy, so counterfeiting money is impossibly hard to do so in this world.

Damn magic-centered civilizations!

Rob shook his head and dismissed his sadness. Now wasn’t the time to lament, it was the time to enjoy! He deserved it anyways. After a long day of hard work and solving most of his problems, he has to treat himself to a nice meal and a relaxing night.

I’m glad I already told Mama and Papa about my plans to eat dinner outside today. Heh, sometimes, blind confidence is confidence when you’re lucky enough! S Rank luck is truly great!

He then arrived at the restaurant he had in mind. It was a large and wide building, with a golden plaque made out of real gold, and had the following words written: Golden Harmonies. As he sat on his chair and grabbed the menu, he browsed through its food orders and quickly made a list inside his mind.

“Steamed Great Elk… Mellow Boar Flames… Shimmer Crystal Pudding… Hmm, let’s also add Rainbow Forest Salad and Harmonic Seas as a drink.”

“Oh wait, let’s also add Lunar Crescent Cake, and even…”

Rob soon gave his long list of orders and licked his lips. Heh, 2 gold coins for dinner? Totally worth it!

This is what it means to enjoy life! Eat some great food, drink some booze, maybe procreate if the body you inhibit can do so and feels pleasure from it, and live a life without worries!

Sigh, a life without worries. Rob shifted his gaze onto the table in front of him and was greeted by a red leather-bound notebook floating in the air, with a pile of gold coins on the bottom, colorful vials rotating in a circle to the side of the notebook, and a crimson clock on top.

A crimson clock… A crimson clock? It went from a trace of crimson smoke to a solid clock. Rob scratched his chin as he began to feel a slight headache. He had exhausted his mind and soul by a bit today as he went all out with Alchemy Magic in the dungeon. He physically didn’t have the capability to think too much or else his head would begin to ache.

Fuck, let’s deal with this tomorrow once my mind and soul had rested. Rob did the same tactics as he had done back in his first life when he was still in high school. If the problem is too big, just leave it to your future self, and cry about it when your future self is your present self.

When his meals finally arrived, he threw the strange mystery to the back of his head and began to savor the delicious food he bought with the money he had worked so hard to earn.

“Ah, shit, too much food. I already drank an Increase Metabolism Potion and a Fat Burner Potion which I prepared just in case, but boy, I shouldn’t have walked back home.” Rob clicked his tongue at his own stubborn stupidity. I’ll enjoy the beautiful scenery damn it!

Life is all about living the way you want it to! So what if it hurts? I’ll enjoy the starry night sky on a chilly night walk! Rob indignantly cursed in his mind at the feebleness of his body of flesh and bone, but he finally arrived in front of his house.

“Finally…” He groaned and grabbed the handle of the door, but as soon as he did so, a strange sense of foreboding appeared in his mind.

And he didn’t doubt this feeling one bit, because he knew this is his sixth sense, a strange sense that transcends his body’s five senses!

The crimson clock… This foreboding feeling… Rob gulped and slowly opened the door, with his heart beating erratically in anxiety and fear. Fuck, don’t tell me my parents died? Don’t tell me this is misfortune after fortune?

As he opened the door, he saw a strange young girl with long black hair and crimson red eyes in the living room, sitting on their living room couch, munching on a bowl of grapes. She was beautiful in the general sense of that word, with an icy cold look that subconsciously causes others to tread around her carefully, or else they would suffer her wrath… or something.

Rob didn’t care about any of that, though. He didn’t care about her good looks, who she was, or what she was doing inside his house with his parents nowhere in sight, because in front of him, traces of mana gathered to form floating white pieces of text.

“Honey, now, I’m sure you’re confused, surprised, bewildered, and ready to use some of that magic of yours to deal with the stranger inside the house, but I assure you, it’s not what you think. We’re not dead or anything… well, we probably are with all this potential paperwork, and we’ll be gone till at least 7:30 in the evening… sigh.”

“Anyhow, back to the topic on hand. To keep this long story short, that girl with black hair and crimson eyes is well, uh… she’s Elaine Fortune!”

“Your new step-sister!”

Step-sister…?

Step… sister…

STEP SISTER?!
