Chapter 12 - Slime Lake

Chapter 12 - Slime Lake

“Hi…,” Rob smiled enthusiastically and greeted the rest of the group. A smile was still a smile. At

“Mmm.” Leo Regulus simply nodded his head and observed his teammates. He was quite excited, to say the least. He could tell that everyone here was decently strong, especially the anomaly known as Rob Fortune. The phantom pain from his cheeks effectively crushed into meat paste was still fresh in his mind.

“It’s nice to meet you all,” Melvin Dolton said with a grin and stretched out his hand for a handshake.

“Like… wise.” Anna grabbed Melvin Dolton’s hands and peeked a glance at Rob Fortune. She inwardly sighed at her own misfortune.

As they all mingled with each other, like what nobles usually do when they meet another noble, Rob silently manipulated all of their luck and formed a stack, creating a beneficial bond between all four of them and grouping their luck into one.

The luck was quite powerful, having the luck of a duke, an earl, a bizarrely lucky viscountess, and a fortunate commoner.

Then, Rob willed, and their combined luck, currently in the shape of a formless ball of gold light, started to change shape and take on a new form as he used his new technique—Luck Divination!

After a short while, their combined luck transformed into a strange lake surrounded by a swarm of colorful motes of lights. Some were red, some were blue, some were yellow, and some were green. On top of the lake, and on the land surrounding it, slimes of different elements roamed around in peace and ignored the existence of those motes of light floating in the air.

Rob immediately deciphered the meaning of their luck and couldn’t help but raised his eyebrow in surprise. It was a decent F Rank dungeon where students of the academy would usually go to test out their new spells or martial arts on weak enemies - the slimes. It wasn’t risky, there was no danger, and they can fill up some of their monthly dungeon quota.

Rob glanced at Annabeth Auburn’s luck, and sure enough, he saw a colorful vortex of light surrounding Anna’s body. It was the same as before… No, the vortex of light is spinning faster, and the speed seemed to continuously rise the closer they got to the dungeon.

A flash of inspiration struck Rob’s mind as his eyes glowed brightly. He could feel it, smell it, taste it, practically touch it. An Opportunity was coming, a big one.

Once that thought rooted in his mind, Rob unknowingly wore a grin on his ugly face and interrupted the trio’s peaceful conversation. No matter what, he had to take this.

“Why don’t we all enter Slime Lake?” Rob suggested with a big wide smile, a smile that was supposed to be amicable, but instead made him appear more of a crude beast due to his below-average looks.

“Slime Lake? That F Rank Dungeon?” Anna snorted and laughed. “Don’t tell me you’re scared of entering an E Rank Dungeon?”

“It is unmistakably safer though. Miss Auburn, you should understand that if we don’t have to take a risk, then we shouldn’t take one.” Melvin Dolton smiled and gave a piece of advice to Anna out of goodwill and from his own experience. He also disliked risking his life, after all, nobody wants to experience death a second time.

“That’s indeed true, but taking on an F Rank Dungeon, a dungeon full of slimes no less, would just be disadvantageous for us. We should at least face something more strong than mere slimes so we’d get higher grades.” Leo Regulus didn’t mind entering an F Rank Dungeon for the sake of safety, but slimes were just too weak and would provide fewer points. It was a losing deal. They’re strong enough to handle stronger dungeons.

“Shush, shush, shush. I know that Slime Lake isn’t that exciting, but you guys do realize that we’ll get more points if we manage to acquire resources inside the dungeons and give them to the school. You might not believe it, but I have an eye for scavenging, and I heard that Slime Lake is chock full of alchemical plants and minerals.”

“Some believe that it’s because of the various elemental slimes living inside the dungeon. It created a strange habitat that allows various materials to be created naturally and with high abundance as well.”

“If we manage to acquire a lot, then we’ll get more grades than entering an E Rank Dungeon and having to risk our lives fighting against some goblins.”

Rob Fortune smiled and finished his argument. It was simply too easy for him. After having lived for eons, he has acquired numerous skills, and persuading a couple of kids was as easy as stealing ice cream from a kid for the current Rob Fortune.

“I guess that is true…” Leo Regulus muttered as he started to analyze the pros and cons of following Rob’s suggestion.

“Hmm, I’m also confident in my own foraging skills, and Wood Magic can help a lot in finding plants with magical properties. And your Earth Magic can also be used to locate magical minerals, so in terms of efficiency, we’re definitely at the upper echelon of the entire class when it comes to gathering resources.”

“Uh…” Annabeth Auburn didn’t know what to say. The conversation just took a turn out of nowhere, and she wasn’t the kind to even think about this type of stuff. While she did know Rob had some sort of plan for wanting to enter the slime dungeon in particular, it was quite out of her expectations for him to use resources to their advantage.

In fact, she didn’t even know about the resource contribution rule until now, since in the game, the player gets to keep all of the resources they acquired in the dungeons without having to give them to the academy. She could of course sell those materials for grades, but she could also trade it for money or use it to forge new equipment for her party members.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

“A splendid plan indeed, Rob Fortune!” Leo Regulus laughed and crossed his arms after a short while. “Very well, I’ll agree with your request.”

“Me too. I think if we plan it well, we’ll be able to amass quite a lot of points in just one day.” Melvin Dolton chuckled and also agreed with Rob Fortune’s plan.

Now with no one else to decide but her, Annabeth Auburn’s mind blanked out and she said without thinking, “Sure. I don’t mind it.”

“Fufufu, that’s good.” Rob Fortune smiled, and with the three agreeing to his plan, they soon arrived at the dungeon entrance to Slime Lake, an F Rank Dungeon known for its various elemental slimes.

The dungeon entrance was something Rob found familiar. It was in the form of a dimensional rift, kind of like an oblong with a mixture of blue and purple plastered in midair, swirling and glowing brightly.

Surrounding the entrance was a black box, with a magical barrier in front of the dungeon entrance that can prevent any monster from escaping if a dungeon outbreak were to occur.

A dungeon outbreak is a phenomenon, where if the dungeon isn’t cleared in a certain time period, the monsters inside can break out and bring havoc to the residents surrounding the dungeon entrance.

This was one of the main reasons the dungeon quota exists for the students. With the dungeon quota in place, the school can allow the students to grow while keeping the dungeons in check.

Rob silently shook his head, almost laughing even when he saw the dungeon entrance because this type of dungeon gimmick would likely mean one thing.

It’s fucking Satan! That dude doesn’t know when to take a break!

Hehehe, he’s probably getting gang-banged right now by the other Higher Existences in their race to reach the level of Supremacy. At that time, I was still only a little maggot struggling in some corner of the Omniverse, facing the arrangements that spanned across numerous realities by those cunts.

Fuck those bastards. Why were they trying to kill me when I was only like a Multiversal-level entity?! Buddha, God, and all those other pieces of shit, just thinking about their little plans is driving me mad.

Well, that’s all in the past… or in the future, time is really wacky when you reach nigh-omnipotence.

Shaking his head at the mind-bending absurdity of life from the perspective of a mere mortal man, Rob Fortune, and the others soon entered the portal.

As strong gusts of winds created sharp howls in his ear, Rob Fortune opened his eyes and found himself to be inside a forest full of trees and shrubs, grass and plants. Around him were his teammates, Annabeth Auburn, Melvin Dolton, and Leo Regulus, who looked around the forest in amazement.

This dungeon… It’s too similar to the ones back in Naven. But why? There are no gods here, including the demonic gods, so these dungeons shouldn’t exist. Or maybe it’s just similar, and not from the same source? Melvin Dolton contemplated and scratched his chin as he observed the forest, intrigued and curious by this lifelike dimension rich with vitality.

So this is a dungeon. It’s so… real? How is there even sunlight if there’s no sun? Wait, how does gravity even exist if this is just a small forest? Ugh, it’s so confusing, Anna thought to herself and struggled to comprehend just how this dungeon could even exist in the first place.

While they were busy thinking about the peculiarity of dungeons, Leo Regulus instead looked around, and his eyes landed on a certain plant nearby, with blue leaves and a blue stem.

“Oho? It’s just like you said, I already found a Lake Drop!” Leo Regulus neared the blue plant and carefully plucked it out.

Melvin Dolton wordlessly used his magic, creating a small basket made out of wood, and Leo Regulus gave his thanks before putting the uprooted plant into the basket.

As the group of four observed the dungeon around them, grabbing the nearby minerals and plants with care, Rob went on to observe their combined luck again and was surprised to see what he found.

The motes of light in the air were shaking, as if excited or angry, while the numerous slimes surrounding the lake acted the same way as the agitated motes of light.

Those motes of light… They must be similar to Elementals, which allowed the slimes to mutate into so many different types. But, why are the lights and slimes agitated all of a sudden? Is it related to the Opportunity?

Rob glanced at Anna, his eyes shining with a strange light.

Opportunities were events that can cause a life to take a turn, to allow a fish to ascend the dragon’s gate and fly the skies with boundless strength. It’s the thing that allows a worthless beggar to become a successful entrepreneur with billions of dollars under their name.

It’s the phenomenon where one’s luck would start to grow rapidly, like the birth of a hero or a champion that would lead the land into prosperity.

This was similar to the protagonists in stories when their life takes a turn for the better the moment they acquire their golden finger. For example, the grandpa in a ring, or a magical system of limitless wonder.

With the appearance of these Opportunities, their luck would soar to the high heavens, and their journey to reaching the pinnacle of life would be an inevitable conclusion like a ship sailing downstream along a raging river.

Fuck, my life was literally only misfortune. There’s the common phenomenon of fortune after misfortune, where after a period of bad luck, one’s luck would soar and turn into good luck, but that almost never happened to me!

As he shook his head and sighed, Rob suddenly felt something amiss, and his dulled intuition started to warn him - to warn him of incoming danger!

From the bushes and the trees, from the ground and in the sky, slimes suddenly appeared in hordes as they all rushed toward the four.

“Why are there so many slimes?!” Anna was shocked by the emergence of these slimes, after all, even though an ant was weak, gather a million and they can easily threaten your life.

“Shit!” Melvin Dolton was the first to react and waved both of his hands, using a great amount of mana while using the assistance of the trees around him to create a simple wooden barricade around them.

“What do we do?” Melvin Dolton grunted and looked back to his teammates. He was occupied right now, and he didn’t have the mental energy to think of a way to escape.

“What a newbie.” Rob rolled his eyes and shook his head. “I thought you were more experienced than this, dear noble Earl.”

Rob then raised his right leg and gathered his mana at the soles of his foot. After a certain amount, he slammed his leg to the ground, and out of nowhere, a small hole opened below them to reveal the vague silhouette of a…

“A cave!” Leo Regulus’ eyes shined brightly, and he conjured a small sphere of crackling electricity to illuminate the cave while they were falling.

With a thud, the four landed safely on the ground, while the hole above them closed up with Rob’s manipulation.

“Where are we…?” Melvin Dolton heaved a sigh of relief and regulated his breath.

“We’re in a cave.” Rob yawned, and with the danger now mostly solved, Rob activated Fortune Stealer to observe their luck once again.

The moment he did so, he immediately closed his eyes shut, because a blinding vortex of light almost caused him to go blind.

With closed eyes, Rob held back the urge to curse loudly and instead processed what he just saw.

There was no doubt about it, the sheer size and light of that vortex of light could only mean one thing.

The fuck?! S Rank Luck?!
