chapter 069

Okay, now I am serious. Would you mind telling me why when i release chapters daily (sometimes double or triple release within a day) I have like 2.9k views, and when I left for 5days its 3.1k? you want to tell me something? Like my story is better when I do not release or what?

Or maybe I was finally noticed by more ppl and here I start my march to the top?

… nah, more likely story is better without me.

I will go cry in a corner… but first, a chappy:

Edited by: KenChi死

I was overwhelmed by the city itself. The Academy district was peaceful… calm, with so few people on the streets. After leaving it, I entered the merchant district. And here I found out that my boosted senses could be a really big disadvantage. I heard everything. At the same time. The men 20 meters to my right was boosting about his armor – finest part from Dwarven Kingdom. Woman at the other street was selling vegetables – still fresh, came in that morning. Atop of that, in all this racket, cacophony of sounds, a young couple was having sex in a building. The woman did not lower her voice, she didn’t have to. She could be twice as loud as still no one would notice them.

If you think that this was a bad part… wait till I would tell you what this district smells like. In the sewers below rats had a feast. Fishmongers had a few “older” products mixed with the fresh ones to hide the smell. Even if it was about noon, a few lucky guys already managed to get drunk, and now one of them was puking in a back alley.

I clenched my teeth, covered my nose with part of the robe and at fast pace I began to look for an exit from this hellhole.

* “Oy! Young man! Here you will find jewellery that will get you the heart of any woman!” Some fat man tried to sell me some necklace. I didn’t even stop.

* “Sharpest swords! Finest armors! Adventurers! Do not save a coin while buying equipment! Better armor may save your life!”.

Keep walking. Do not stop even for a second, if I would let them know, that maybe there is a possibility that perhaps I could think about acquiring their goods, they would not let me be.

Someone bumped into me, and I felt someone’s hand on my pocket.

* “I am not carrying gold with me. Try your luck with someone else.” I said quietly. A short curse was the response given to me.

After a couple more minutes somehow I managed to leave the area without being trampled, robbed (mostly because I had nothing worth being robbed) and with my sanity still more or less intact. Quite a feat, don’t you think?

I walked thru an alley leaving the merchant district and soon I got to the fork-like crossroad...

A bit to the left there was a path to the noble district while a bit to right… slums. Ha, so nobility lives in completely different direction than the poor? Who could guess something like that? Even more, they made the path to the merchant district in such manner, that in the place where you would normally make an ambush – just on the crossroad – they built the adventure guild – one shout or yell, and a small army of armored men that are always in need of coin would jump out to help an oppressed noble… for a coin or two, of course.

The building itself… calling it huge would not be sufficient. If you would imagine an inn… and inn, and inn, and inn… then make them three floors high… nope, it is still bigger. Are you sure it’s the adventure guild, not a military outpost? But what would an OUTPOST would do INSIDE a city…

Signboard with crossed axe and sword? Check.

A really big inscription “Adventure guild”? Check.

Sounds of a brawl inside? Checked.

Man flying out through the main gates and landing in the dirt as he was kicked out? Checked.

Without a doubt – Chewie, we’re home… new home.

I walked over the man lying in the dirt, trying to not stomp on him, and entered.

… Horror, horror.

The brawl was more like a small war. Of course in the middle of the inn section there were lots of people fighting each another without any order, a death match at its finest, all versus all. The only one standing shall be the winner, but deeper, there were two small groups… if about a dozen each can be considered small, combine all of them and we have a boss ride.

Beer mugs were flying, someone was using a table as a shield and a chair leg as club. Some really big men smashed two other little men against each other. Some very small girl, looking like 12 or 13 years old, yet with different skin color and body structure, so probably a race I don’t know yet, was riding an orc… yup, green skin, fangs to big so were pointing out even with the mouth shut.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

* “…what the FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!” a voice like thunder shook the guild. A tall, slightly old woman walked from the inside of the guild.

Everyone froze, the little girl released the dreadlocks of the orc, used previously to not fall off, the man dropped his self made club and shield on the floor, two men clinging together froze. One had a mug with beer in hand, while the second had a fist near the other’s face. Oh, no. wait. The man with the mug, while still looking at the woman with mouth open wide, while no one moved, raised his mug and smashed at the other men’s head. The other man collapsed. And after that, no one moved.

* “I do not care who started, I do not care who felt offended, I DO NOT FUCKING CARE WHOS FAULT IT IS, ALL I CARE IS FOR ALL OF YOU, EACH OF YOU, TO REPER WHAT WAS BROKEN. YOU HAVE 10 MINUTES. AFTER 10 BLOODY MINUTES IF THERE WILL BE ANY TRASH ON THE FLOOR… you know what will happen, don’t you?... Geoffrey… did you just broke another table?”

* “I am sorry, madam, I will buy a new one, madam.” The bulky bald man that was a walking muscle machine of rumble and destruction… completely defeated. Smashed. Devastated. After one sentence. So this is a lady we don’t want to irritate.

* “If only Giselle was here…” Another wave of fear. Another name to remember.

* “Marika… Get off Mrogul’s head!... you two again? What the hell did you do to each other again… no wait, I don’t want to know.”

The little girl jumped off the over 2 meters tall beast. Now, she looked even smaller.

* “To the corner you two, normal punishment.” Is “corner” some key word? Does it mean some kind of torture?

No, with awe I looked as they walked to the corner, for a moment longer I thought, that there is some hidden room with the tools of ultimate pain, but instead they sat there, grabbed each other hands and started mumbling. :”We are best friends, nothing shall stop our ultimate friendship, this is our get along corner”

* “And next three dungeon riders you will compete as a team of two.” A groan, or even howl of ultimate pain could be heard “Any objections?”

* “No madam! We are grateful madam!”

… is that for real?

The woman kept scolding every adventurer by name, after she did, everyone began to clean the room. And as there was no one else to scold, she looked at me.

* “And who, the hell, are you?” Her gaze was pretty angry, I wanted to introduce myself politely, showing her respect for whatever her status here is. But as I walked a step closer… I was stuck by fear. Gods? Pff, Snake Queen? Ha-ha. The little old lady is a real deal.

* “G…Greetings” I forced myself to not say something like: I was just passing by, and run away “I would like to become an adventurer…”

I wanted to say a little more, but I was cut off in the middle of sentence.

* “No way! I have enough troubles with those morons. One arrogant brat more, will break the limits of my patience!”

* “B…”

* “A mage, huh? Another noble son, that wishes for a little adventure? Or did you have an argue with your papa that hs plans for you, and you angrily ran away? You better…”

* “I believe this letter will tell you more…” I said while giving her my council certificate.

* “He? A note from the Senate? How much did your family spent on bribes?” She opened letter and began to read aloud “We, the Gathering of Senate after discussion and observation of Special Being – Zariel, announce that…” She stop reading aloud yet her eyes moved to each line of letters.

* “It would be better for you… if it is not some kind of sick joke…”

* “I have nowhere else to go… I mean, I have… but I would like to stay in civilization for some more and…”

* “Come with me” She turned around, opened a door to the office section of the guild and went inside without even looking at me.

We walked deeper inside and then, took a stairway to the highest floor, to the deepest room.

* “Guildmaster, special case here.” She said and dropped the letter on the office of a man that looked like gentle grandpa.

* “Oh, hello Alesia, and you, Mr. Special Case.” Definitely gentle grandpa. He began to read.

* “Ho… And here I was thinking that I have depleted the limit of exciting adventurers one can have within a life time.” This is when I noticed his abnormal muscles. “Ahh, If I would only be a decade or two younger… I would force you to fight with me… but now, those pathetic tinny bones of mine can shatter as the wind would blow… ho ho ho.”

* “And I can bet that you would still knock me down within a minute…”

* “You think, you would last a minute?” Alesia asked

* “I am good at running away.”

* “Now, what a nice lad you are, not many have respect to the ol’ foolish me, why do you respect me? You want to earn something by spoiling me?”

* “It is just common sense, to respect an old man in a profession where men die young… and I somehow can feel that you may teach me many things.”

Aaaand here I probably made a mistake, for Alesia’s eyes widened and on the face of the gentle grandpa an evil grin appeared.

* “Oh, sure thing, as soon as I finish the paper work I have here, and you would not have a quest going on… I WOULD LOVE TO show you a move or two… but now… Devourer… I am sorry for what I will say now… but from time to time we have fame-hungry young men, that love to pretend someone they aren’t… a villager saying he is the son of Lord, or even Prince himself, Rogue mages faking certifications….”

* “Is faking a letter from council really that easy?”

* “It is not, and this is why you are not checked anywhere else, but here… if it is fake, punishment will be great, so can you prove us that…”

* “Wolf” I said and shifted. “Deer” again I replaced body parts “Boar, Bird, Rabbit… do you wish me to continue? I am who I am, I was living for this time in the middle of nowhere… but I was invited to the Gathering… without the possibility to say no… and now I am doing everything I can to not be dragged into politics of any kind… And I heard the guild is neutral ground.”

* “… a real Devourer, in front of me… if someone would enter this room this morning, and told me that I will have a friendly conversation with a Devourer...”

* “What are we going to do?” The woman asked concerned.

* “Do you think I am going to let such an opportunity go away? In the guild records I will be known as the only one who recruited a Devourer! MWAHAHAHA!”

* “Actually… he came here by himself…”

* “Shush! That’s but a detail we can change easily, without anyone getting hurt! Now!” The man got up from the chair with such vigor, that one could think he was in his mid 40… not his mid… 20000… or something… nah, he is not that old… or is he?

* “We welcome you within our ranks! Our guild is a gathering of adventurers from all around the world! Within every bigger city… and a few smeller ones too, we have a department that will give you same benefits, depending on your rank, of course. You will start at the bottom, and by doing harder and harder jobs you will be able to improve yourself, as your rank. You will be limited to do quest only one rank above you own. You can rank up by either doing a shitload of quest or by challenging someone stronger… even if you would lose, you may rank up, if you would be found worthy…. Do I really need to tell all of it?”

* “No, guildmaster, I understand what you mean.”

* “Perfectly, go back to the inn section with Alesia, say hello to everyone there. If you would need a team to complete a task, you are free to make it by your own, or you may ask the guild for help, we will make everyone aware of this fact, and we may also reduce the number of people that would wish to join you by selecting from those needed to the team, like healers, battle mages… so on, so on… Just fill this little sheet so we would know you better, it’s just to know how much you can do, to give you a role, like already mentioned….”

* “B…But I can do most of them.”

* “What do you mean by “most of them”?”

* “I have been living on my own, so I was hunting, fighting, setting traps, learning magic, hiding, tracking, healing… One member army, you could say…. Of course I am far from being good in all of those but still….”

* “You can heal… can you?”

* “…Nature healing, accelerating one healing rate, detoxification… I can also create potions but, but I heard it is illegal…”

* “Only if you want to sell it… if you are making those for yourself and your party… They will simply give you more money from the quest reward, such loopholes we find, if you are a team of 4, normally you would share 25-25-25-25… and here you can share 70-10-10-10… of course all depends on how good the potions are… but we are not going to let you die from hunger…” The eyes of grandpa were shinning.

* “Jackpot… what a time to be alive! Who knows, maybe I will be able to pay off my debts…”

* “Jeremy Aloizi Jericho, You are just trying to use your position to solve your personal matters… that’s highly unmoral and…”

* “We will be in touch” I said. Mr. Guildmaster smiled, Mrs. Secretary just shook her head.
