3. Shadow Wolf

[Reporting in on Cudrigal Sreet! The Shadow Wolf has been cornered in the abandoned building of what was once a lab owned by the "Laughing Death", police have suspected the "Laughing Death" to be still...]

Inside a compact living room with a bright flat screen television hanging on the wall, a small couch 2 meters away from the television; fit for exactly two people, a small half a meter white glass table, and a potted plant at the left side of the couch.

"What are you listening to?" A man came entering in from the door asked. He scooched over the tight hallway that separates the door to the room. It couldn't even be considered a real hallway, but in that year, a hallway was a hallway as long as it was 10 centimeters.

"The news." The man on the couch replied nonchalantly. "About what?" The standing man asked.

"Wha-" The man was confused. He looked at the man then the television, "wha-", the man then the television, "wha-", to the man and then the television, "wha-", then lastly stayed staring at the man. "What are you blind! The television is so big you have to be disabled in the eyes to not see it!" He stretched his hands in the direction of the television. "Just look!" He yelled.

"Well anyway," the man slowly traversed into the small available places leading into the open spot on the small couch. "Brandon, have you seen Michelle?! Like, like, uhh, like..." He wiggled his hands in the air, trying to think of a good joke. "... Water awakener, fire extinguishing department noises," He recovered... badly, "Cause she's smoking hot!!!!"

"Uhuh, get your perverted thoughts away from my room Klark." Replied Brandon to Klark's overly dramatic representation of a woman."

[The awakeners of the elite police force are finally entering the building! Ahhh! The gust of wind tonight is high folks, will today be the day the Shadow Wolf finally gets caught!]

"Oh, so it's about the Shadow Wolf." Said Klark. He finally made his way and sat right next to Brandon, squishing him. "You really should get a bigger couch." Said Klark.

Brandon stared into his eyes and sighed, "I don't have any more space." Brandon Said.

"Well, did you know where I went to, today?" Klark asked Brandon with his enthusiastic tone once more. "And where is that?" Brandon said with a deadpan expression. He really couldn't care less about Klark's day, and because of him, he couldn't even hear the news properly anymore.

"To the Modern Era Museum, like man! You can't believe just how different life was before the Cataclysm!" Klark yelled with his hands acting up.

"Oh really, how amazing..." Brandon replied, sarcastically.

"Well, for example, this room, I mean did you know! That people before had much bigger rooms! Not because they had fewer people, but because not half of the entire world is unlivable. Now 4 Billion humans live on only half of the earth!" Klark explained. And he added, "I didn't even know we just live on half of our planet.".

"Cause you're stupid Klark." Replied Brandon.

"Well I don't care about your sarcasm and animosity, cause anyway, did you also know that our era was supposed to be called "Futuristic Era". I mean that just sounds stupid, thank the System that the Cataclysm happened and now it’s called the "Cataclysm Era."." Klark continued with his explanations.

"I know, it was one of the stupidest exam questions that I got wrong," Brandon said, with a bitter taste left on his tongue and disappointment in himself.

[The awakener police force had finally made contact with Shadow Wolf, how will you deal with this now Villain!]

"Reporters are so enthusiastic." Said, Brandon.

"Oh by the way, do you remember that story I told you about Shadow Wolf?" Klark asked.

"What story?" Brandon replied, still not showing interest nor even a glimpse towards Klark.

"The story that Shadow Wolf is actually a nice person and not a Villain," Klark remarked.

"Nice person?" Brandon was finally intrigued with his blood boiling and his veins showing.

"Yeah, remember when I got kidnapped? I told you Shadow Wolf saved me. So yeah, he's not really a Villain." Klark said smiling; missing the hints of anger Brandon was showing.

"Oh! Oh! Oh! Here we go again Klark! This is why I'm your only friend, and I don't even like you." Brandon released violent breaths and pulled his shirt with much force. He kept twisting his head and his face showed its annoyance to Klark.

"What'd I do again?!" Klark yelled.

"Calling Shadow Wolf a good person? Have some respect!" Brandon yelled in front of Klark's face. With spit blasting out his mouth; saliva entered Klark's eyes.

"Ughh...! What do you mean by respect? I am showing respect, I just called him a good person! That's respect!" Klark leaned his head down to his chest and wiped the saliva with his shirt.

"Calling him nice is not showing respect! You're undermining his title! The Shadow Wolf is a top-tier Villain! Calling him nice? What? Is he doing his job wrong? He's arguably the best Villain of our era, and you're calling him nice? Show some respect to the Villains! It's their living!" Brandon yelled at the top of his lungs. Covering Klark's hair and his face with even more saliva.

"Oh, my System! Did you know when I went to the museum earlier, I was able to see those "Cringe" short-form videos, I almost died from cringe, but seeing this world? Nah! At least at that time cringe still existed, now it doesn't even exist! Now people like you with no opinions exist!" Klark blabbered his way into Brandon's ears, dealing no damage or point to his perspective.

"You're stupid Klark." Brandon couldn't waste his time arguing with Klark, he shoved his hand away and turned his head over to the screen.

"You're stupid! This world is doomed." Klark dropped his arms to his lap and comfortably laid his back on the couch.

"That's why you're stupid Klark, the world isn't doomed... It was already doomed even way before the Cataclysm, that's just how humans are, we are all shit." Brandon remarked.

[The building has caught fire! I repeat the building has caught fire! The Blazing Phoenix has released his signature move! What will the Shadow Wolf do!]

"Now this just sounds like an Awakener Battle Competition. This doesn't even sound like the world being rid of a Villain." Klark said, "You know something has been itching me ever since I entered your room." He continued.

"Huh." Brandon looks at Klark. "You have a point, there is something quite odd." Brandon questions.

"Yeah, it's like we're part of some bit." Said Klark.

"Two people, and news about a single man on a highlight..." Said, Brandon. The two shared a look. Staring for a few seconds until they finally caught what was flying all around them the whole time.

"It sounds like..." Brandon swallowed his saliva. Then the two said the same thing together.

"Like one of those movies where they use the news as a transition to the main character!" Said the two.

[I see something falling out of the building! Zoom the camera in! Oh, my System! It's the Shadow Wolf!]

***In The Middle Of The Air***

Fuck, fuck, fuck, and another fucking fuck! Isaac repeated in his head. He kept cursing over and over again as he fell from the window of a 100-floor-story building. Isaac reached into his side belt and took out a grappling hook. Raising his arms and aiming it atop the roof of another building, Isaac shot.

Gaining a secure path to freedom, he swung to another building window. Feels like I just did this… and yes I fucking did! A sudden ball of fire was shot from behind him. One was going to the middle of his grappling and the other was aimed at him.

“You think you’re clever! Well, thank you!” He yelled. When the fireball was almost near Isaac, he pulled up his grappling hook, propelling himself high into the air. He then raised his arm and guarded it to his chest. The fireball followed in pursuit of Isaac, whether he changed direction or even went across the country, that ball of fire would chase him to the ends of the world.

The fire exploded on the impact of an invisible barrier, launching Isaac faster to the building. He landed on a glass window, rolled on the ground, and pieces of glass pierced all over his body.

“Tsk! Fuck! Fuck!” A ring on his finger slowly turned into ashes. He placed his left arm an inch above his chest. Soon a green glow appeared on his hand; recovering his injuries and pushing pierced glass from all over his body.

[Skill “Basic Heal” Has Leveled Up]

“Not the time for this! For fuck sake!” Isaac limped towards the other side of the building. He knew that those awakeners would soon catch up to him in no time. A few seconds later his feet couldn’t move any further and his mana was running out. Healing his entire body was already out of the option.

Isaac looked around, turning his head rapidly. He was in an office room, with no lights and an open door to the hallway. He hurried out of the office and pulled out a bat from his inventory. “I never knew this was going to ever be useful, but hey life is full of many fucking mysteries!”

Isaac closed the door behind him and smashed a hole below it. He repeatedly sent a blow to the door until it was to his liking. Afterward, he walked a few steps into the office right in front of the other; he threw his bat out the window and removed his bag; throwing it beside the desk in front of the broken window.

“Where are you! You fucking bastard!” A man yelled inside the closed office room. Isaac moved out of the office and placed himself; hugging into the wall in the hallway; just a few inches from the door. Isaac took a deep breath and closed his eyes. Don’t rely on the system… it’s your skill, it is you… you have the power… He meditated into his mind.

“Can’t you keep it down! Now he knows we’re here!” This time, a woman yelled. “Then why are you yelling!” The man replied. “Cause he already knows we’re here!” She came busting the door open. Walking out of the office and seeing the broken window on the other side.

“He already jumped again!” The man yelled. The woman got to thinking, she had studied everything there was about the Shadow Wolf, despite his entire background being hidden from even the government, all they knew were his petty tricks and lack of strength.

The Shadow Wolf wouldn’t jump out of the building again, if he did, he would just be spotted once more. But that could also be his plan.

A hole in the door, the impact was much stronger than I thought it would be, but that made sense, his running out of strength. A bag, he left his bag on the floor? That couldn’t be, that just means he needed to lose weight. A dimensional bag still weighs the same despite being able to fit an almost infinite amount of items.

“Are you done investigating?! I’m itching to kill that bastard!” Yelled the man. “Quiet down, you sound more like a Villain than a Hero.” Replied the woman. She was biting her nails and scratching her neck. The woman stared at the bag on the floor and the crack in the window.

The crack looks big enough… but why would he take off his bag…

“This is why I told you we should have gotten that earpiece from the sky!” Yelled the man. “I was the one who said that and it was you who dragged me inside! Shut up! I’m thinking!” The woman replied full of anger. She has wasted a lot of time. Whatever the Shadow Wolf is doing, it has already bought enough time to escape.

! A gate! The World Gate opens every 9 p.m. It has limited weight requirements! Shit, we’re right in front of the main street! That’s why he brought us here in the first place!

The woman looked at her watch, it was exactly 8:59 p.m., one minute till O’ clock. “Run! Sanches run!” The woman yelled. “I was waiting for that!” The two jumped out of the window, just like he planned.

Fucking hell… this has been 2 close calls in a month, I’m too old for this shit. Isaac walked through the hallway, his entire body came to light and his injuries were starting to open up. “Basic Healing really is a shit skill…” he entered a random office and dropped to the ground.

“It really is a shit skill, isn’t it… mister Shadow Wolf.” An old man in a black tuxedo was standing right in front of Isaac. His smile exuded that of a devil’s, his posture was perfect, with legs straight, he took out a cigar; lit it, and placed it in his mouth. “From running directly into a street past the town square and stalling just right before 9? You really are a genius Shadow, just sad that I… am smarter.” He continued.

“So you really have betrayed me, Litman.” Isaac sighed. His body was in so much pain that he couldn’t care anymore. He sat down laying against the wall. Isaac stared at Litman with disappointment in his eyes.

“What are you talking about… this is the first time I’ve seen you.” He smiled. His body was enveloped in a dark mist, when it dispersed his entire body had changed its physique, even his face had turned young and his clothes were now of a policeman's.

“Everyone! It’s the Shadow Wolf! For the accounts of multiple stolen national treasures and murder inside dungeons, with the power given to me by the System, you hereby sentence in prison for life!” Yelled Litman. He took out a metal handcuff from his inventory and dragged Isaac’s body behind, cuffing him in the process.

Multiple people then entered the office, they were part of the force, Litman’s co-workers. “You really have the best intuition, Litman!” Said one of the men. “Call the Chief! We got him!” Litman said, with an innocent smile on his face; overjoyed with the feeling of catching a wanted Villain.

Well, it has been a life… Isaac closed his eyes and accepted his fate. He dreamt of his favorite memories. With his mind completely blank, he fell asleep; tired from running.

***In An Investigation Room***

“Ahh… you’re awake. It feels so nice! You know! I got you now Shadow Wolf!” A man sat across from Isaac. He was tied into a chair using a special type of material that removes access to the System. His clothes were now changed into an orange jumpsuit.

There was a desk right in front of him, with a desk lamp open and a ceiling light bulb closed. His surroundings were dark, and he couldn’t see anything other than the circular light that the lamp revealed.

“Stripping me naked and changing me… Just how disrespectful for the president of the new world.” Isaac said mockingly to the man sitting in front of him. He was dressed finely, with a black suit and a red tie; a fine beard, and red colored hair.

“Well, well don’t treat me like that sir Shadow Wolf.” The man stood up and fixed his tie. He started to walk back and forth. “We have been chasing you for over 3 months now sir Shadow Wolf. I know it sounds like a really short amount of time, but surprisingly, you were the first to ever break that 2-month barrier.” He stopped staring at Isaac.

“We have had many criminals on our hands, yet none could escape the way you do. Without the coincidence of one of our policemen… you would have been out of grasp… yet again.” He smiled. Isaac sighed, remembering who caught him. He even laughed in his mind, knowing that that policeman he was talking about was just a rotten mole, too old for the job. But he was caught by him, so he really has no right to say anything.

“But still, catching is a delight to me either way and seriously, after so long, who would have that the Shadow Wolf… would be you!” The man walked slowly, facing Isaac. “Like who would have thought that it would be… you! Like you!” He yelled repeatedly.

“You don’t know who I am… do you.” Said Isaac with a smirk on his face.

“Yeah! Who the fuck are you!” The man smashed his hand on the table, shaking the floor. “We have looooooked eeeeeeverywhere!” Yelled the man. He pulled back his chair and sat. “We caught you now… so please.” The man pleaded, with his eyes glowing, he really seemed to be lost and in much need of help. “Please! Just tell me who you are! You have no records! That just means you were from an orphanage! But still! How can you not have any records!” The man yelled. He plunged his chin on the desk, looking pathetic.

“Fine, I kind of love doing this type of thing, stop, you’re giving me the creeps.” Said Isaac, following a shiver coming up and down of his body. “Oh thank you.” The man smiled at the comment. “Not a compliment,” Isaac replied.

“Well then… I’ll tell you everything… I’ll tell you everything! How much do you have.” Said Isaac. He leaned on the desk and smiled. “Oh… I have infinite… infinite time I say, mister… whatever your real name is.” Replied the man.

“Ok, I’ll start.”

“Please do, we really never had any of this case so… uhhh, really please do.” The man said in a hurry. With a low tone and a hand covering the side of his mouth.

***39 Years Into The Past***

My life started when I was just a child. Weird thing to say, but bear with me.

Born in poverty, I know none of who birthed me nor the man I was a part of.

My first memory was of the day I was at the orphanage. It wasn’t one of the main orphanages you might think of, but it isn’t that obscure either. It was just an orphanage at the edge of the city.

Living a normal life at the age of 3, I was finally able to talk. I know… it took a long time, but as for the cases of orphaned kids, it was just normal.

I was even part of the normal batch of kids, with no trauma or memory of my past. It was like I was born, there and there, as a 3-year-old. But enough of my babbling, my childhood years were basically forgettable. Nothing of significant ever happened… well until… the appraisal ceremony happened.

It was one of the 3 turning points of my life.
