I arrive at the arena. There were already a couple of people waiting to be tested. I look around and see a staff member handing out cards. They're probably handing out cards to represent your turn, I should probably go and get a turn now unless I want to wait longer.
I walk up to the staff member.
"Here sir, please take this number and wait for your turn." She handed me a card with the number 8.
I say thank you to her and went to the side of the arena to wait my turn.
Well, I didn't know there were going to be people already testing. I got 8 and by the looks of it each fight is 5-10 minutes, well might as well get comfortable because I'm not leaving any time soon. I guess I can study the fights well I wait.
an hour passes.
These guys suck! Number 7 is almost done with his fight and let me say, he was getting his ass kicked. Much like all the other people, they can't do anything against this tester, which makes sense to test your abilities they would put you against someone who is stronger than you. But the guy was relentless, he operated on the one rule, no mercy! I almost feel sad for the people who go against him, but then again, they are all weak.
The fight with number 7 comes to a close.
"Number 8!" the tester said.
I come down from the seats and stand before him.
The man that stands before me has the physique of a bear, standing like an iron wall blocking my way. He has the eyes of a professional predator that make your instincts scream run to whoever sees them.
Seeing him up close makes me rethink my choices on fighting him.
"Do you need a weapon?" the tester asked.
"No, I will only use magic."
"Ok, then we start, come at me."
I start by chanting my new spell.
"Space Slice" The space warps into the shape of a crescent and then quickly stabilizes into an invisible blade.
I launch the blade at him, but he dodges by a sliver, he looks surprised but quickly puts up his guard again.
Next, he launches himself at me like a cannonball.
Damn it, how am I supposed to dodge that when my body can't react in time. Looks like I have only one opinion and that is to try the same trick again.
"Space Slice" The mana seems to work faster than before, and the attack also got stronger.
[Space Slice has leveled up!]
Perfect timing! The attack launches at him, this time at a distance he can't avoid, but he coats his body in a red aura and the attack is blocked, he jumps back.
"It seems you were holding back, smart move, you pass."
"What? Just like that, are you going easy on me?"
"Yes, although you are weak, you have a very rare element that is valued everywhere, so I thought you would be a great asset if you were to train. Plus your element isn't the best in fights."
So that's why he's letting me off easy, I guess I should just accept it, I'm far too weak to do anything against him, I shouldn't have been too brazen and think that I could become an adventurer with just one attack spell. I feel like I'm learning more about myself, although I have an extraordinary rank species it doesn't mean I have power, it means I have potential, and that's something that I overlooked. Next time I will have to be prepared or else there will be no next time.

Well, Jason was thinking about his own mistakes, the tester was evaluating him too.
He has potential and confidence. He can control so much mana at such a young age, he must have awakened a good species and a good affinity magic, he even got the space element which is a great support element but has horrible attacks most of the time. Even though I say they have horrible attacks I guess that's not true as the higher circles have some of the strongest attacks out there. But sadly, no space mage has been born in hundreds of years that had enough of an affinity with space magic to get that far, they're just too rare and that's their weakness.
And then there's his problem, he's too confident, does he really think with his skills he could pass the adventurer's test with flying colors, or does he want to pass just barely? Well, whatever it might be I'll give him F rank and if he overcomes his weaknesses, he will be a high-ranking adventurer in no time.
"You can go back to the counter; just tell the staff at the counter you are eligible for rank F."
"Thank you, I will," I say then leave.
I arrive at the counter to see the lady that helped me before.
"Did you pass?" she asked.
"Yes, rank F."
"Oh, well that's underwhelming. Well, we have one more test and that is the mana value test, all you have to do is put your hand on this device and it will measure your mana value."
Did she really just say that out loud, so mean.
I put my hand on the device and the number on the screen starts to go up and stops at 53.
"You're an Intermediate Mage!"
"I guess so."
"I don't think you understand, you are the youngest person to reach the second circle!"
I don't even have a mana heart though!
"You pass, even though I want to give you a higher rank than F, sadly you must not be very good at fighting, which makes sense for a space mage."
"The tester said that too, why does that make sense."
"Space mages don't have a lot of attack spells and defensive spells, so they are often weak in fights, but their dimensional spells are one of the most popular spells out there and are used for storage rings, and I can't even tell you how useful the warp spell is too!"
I can tell she's a fan of space magic.
"Do you know where I could find a book of space magic spells?"
"You could find one at the royal library, but that one only has spells that are 1-3 circles., but if you're looking for any higher than you will have to go to the main adventurers building, and we should have one still but it's probably collecting dust."
"Thank you I will have to see the royal library then, as you saw I'm not a high-ranking space mage yet but one day I will go to the main adventurers building."
I finished registering at the guild and then left.
Nice I have my adventurers license, and now I can leave the city, but first I need to learn some more spells, lucky for me the royal library only has a little fee to get in and you can read all of the books, you just can't bring any of the books outside.
Meanwhile in the adventurer's guild.
"Yes, guild master, I can confirm he has a godly affinity for space magic."
"I see, I want you to keep a close eye on him, and make sure he doesn't die on any missions it will surely hurt us if we have such a kid dying."
"Yes, guild master."
I made it to the library. A giant building stood before Jason.
I walked through the big double doors and entered the library. There at the front of the room was a desk and a staff member.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The staff behind the counter asked.
"I would like to go into the library."
"There's a fee for 10 coins."
I handed the staff the money and went in. The place was 3 stories with each filled with bookcases.
I believe the spell books were on the second floor. I proceeded to look around the second floor. Ah found it, but it's all dusty must have not been used for a while. I went to a table and started to read.
Ah look at this there are so many more first circle spells, plus the second circle spell which I might be able to use. Let's just start with learning all the ones that I need.
Three hours pass.
Ok let's see my stats now.

I learned 3 new spells, sadly all the others were of no help in battle. Now let's test these out.
I arrive at the gate of the city. Yes, I'm planning on testing my new spells on monsters, I believe I have enough power now, and I have some food and water in my Dimensional Storage plus an emergency kit if I get hurt.
There's a long line Infront of me all going through the checkout. Most of the time the guards are only looking for a license to leave the city, so it shouldn't take long.
10 minutes pass.
"License please." The guard asked me.
I gave him my adventurers card.
"Are you sure you want to leave by yourself, you're only a F rank adventurer and the outside is pretty dangerous?" He asked in concern.
"Yes, I'm positive, but to be safe I will stay near the wall."
"I see, then be safe out there, monsters aren't the only threat."
"Yes, I will, thank you." I wonder what he means when he says monster aren't the only threat.
