Feng Zhiming sat on a stone slab in a jail cell that seemed like it hadn’t been used in years, it had year old spider webs in the corners of the roof and insects crawling along its floors.
“Ew, ew, ew.” Lyra sat on Ellia’s shoulders trying to avoid contact with the ground.
Ellia gazed at the wall thinking about where he had gone wrong, before slowly turning his gaze to Feng Zhiming who was closing his eyes and meditating, or sleeping, it wasn’t exactly clear.
When Feng Zhiming had been getting dragged away by the authorities he had rudely pointed out that they were here as a group.
Lyra’s aggressive tendencies didn’t exactly help Ellia’s negotiations and now they ended up here.
When one of the guards tried to grab her she actually electrocuted him, if they had a chance to avoid imprisonment before that, it was practically guaranteed after.
Feng Zhiming slowly opened his eyes, he decided to kill some time.
“They call you the Heavenfallen knight, any special story behind that?”
Feng Zhiming removed a dumpling he had stored for later and handed it to Ellia.
“Any special story behind you being an insufferable annoyance?” Lyra interjected as she tried to untangle a spider web from her hand.
Feng Zhiming ignored the provocation and Ellia merely sighed, before replying.
“I’m not originally of this land, I hail from another continent, Lumaria.”
Feng Zhiming was intrigued, another continent, he had expected it but had not had time to seriously think about it.
“Me and Lyra ended up here after she butchered a teleportation spell, we fell from the sky, so they called me Heavenfallen Knight.”
“Spells, like daoist magics?” Feng Zhiming asked with narrowed eyes.
Lyra inhaled slowly before slowly exhaling.
“NO! No, every time I have to explain it, on our continent Qi is known as Mana, Mana is Qi, different kind of magic.”
Feng Zhiming slowly nodded his head, another term for Qi, was it due to a difference in language perhaps?
“But it's still cultivation, I sense that both of you are spiritual awakeners?”
Ellia answered this time.
“I am something of a body cultivator, over on our continent they refer to it as the Knight’s path.”
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
He looked up to Lyra and she rolled her eyes.
Feng Zhiming removed another dumpling and handed it to her.
She pretended to be reluctant as she grabbed the dumpling.
“I cultivated the path of a witch, my mana, or in this case Qi manipulation is very advanced.”
Ellia took another bite before speaking.
“Warrior, Novice Knight, Knight, Master Knight, Grandmaster Knight, Paladin, Divine Paladin.”
“I see, so divine Paladin is the Dao Lord realm.” Feng Zhiming was smiling despite being in a cell, this had actually turned out to be an informative delay, he thought back to the scripture he admired.
Zhishi Wu's manual encouraged seeking knowledge, if one is not aware how could one make decisions?
“Caster, Novice Witch, Witch, Master Witch, Grandmaster Witch, Sorceress, Divine Mage.”
Lyra added without even being asked.
She felt pride when she was preaching to Feng Zhiming, it was as if the arrogant man from before was an obedient little boy.
Feng Zhiming listened closely, all this was extremely relevant to surviving in this strange world.
“Enough talk of cultivation fellows, let us discuss other matters.” Ellia decided to change the topic as he lifted Lyra from his shoulders and on to his lap.
“Have some shame, honorable knight, this isn’t your bedchamber.” Feng Zhiming knew he had no real intention of getting frisky but he also felt like joking around, there wasn’t much else to do here.
He had already made a plan to be released, not too long ago Anissa arrived at the city and used her divine sense to find him, she insisted on breaking him out but he refused. It was not good to use force here, instead he instructed her to bribe someone to get them released.
The best use of this time would be to cultivate, however he wasn’t trusting enough to leave himself vulnerable in this situation.
Lyra quickly pushed herself from his lap and sat beside him instead.
“He who has no silver speaks of faulty armor.” Ellia spoke as he chuckled, clearly attacking a man's weak spot.
Feng Zhiming chuckled in response, he understood what the phrase meant despite its origins being foreign to him.
“My silver is all spent for now.” Feng Zhiming threw his hands into the air as he leaned back into the wall.
“Really? A regular golden tongued snake like you?” Lyra chimed in with a smug expression.
Feng Zhiming closed his eyes for a moment as he recollected the women he had been with.
“Unfortunately, there was no silver that shone bright enough to enamore me.” it was the truth, the women were merely a means for him to relieve himself.
“No relationships?” Ellia raised his eyebrows as he asked.
Friends? there was no way they could be called that, if they had the chance they would stab him in the back no questions asked, of course he would do the same.
Feng Zhiming blanked out and realized the reality of the situation, in the span of 100 years he had never had a relationship that wasn’t built on deceit.
“There was.” he thought to himself as he remembered, one that he hadn’t built upon lies or deceit.
“I was actually married.”
Ellia and Lyra collectively gasped, how did it take him this long to remember he was married?
“And here I thought it couldn’t get weirder.” Lyra leaned closer so she could hear the story more clearly.
“Unfortunately, that is one story I never tell, be satisfied with that much.” he wasn’t one to spill his guts to people he met a few days ago, or to people in general.
He looked up at the cobweb covered roof and saw a lush forest instead as he reveled in the memories of days long gone.
