30. Awakening

"First, there are five main parameters for status. They are Health, Stamina, Mana, and Physical and Magical power. Health is the measurement of the vitality one's body has. The higher one's health, the harder it is for that person to die. Fatal injuries can immediately kill someone or drastically drop their health. However, the higher said health, the lower chance of instant death.

Stamina focuses on the physical movement one's body can endure before fatigue prevents you from the action. It is used sightly in the early levels as a warrior. However, it is soon replaced with Mana. Mana is the amount of magic one's body can use before tiring. It is one, if not the primary status, you must watch for at higher levels. Finally, magical and physical power is the amount of physical and magical power one's body can release at one time. There are many other statuses; however, they are secondary to those five except for Soul Essence, which is in a different category altogether."

"Now, to increase these parameters, there are 6 Main Attributes to the system, as you probably already know. Each stat increases different parameters. Strength increases the physical power of the body as well as health slightly. 1 point of Strength is 5 health and 10 physical power."

"Endurance increase the health and stamina of one's body. 1 point of Endurance, 10 health, and 10 stamina, offering the highest amount of health and stamina per point."

"Next, Perception increases comprehension, awareness, and magical power slightly. 1 point of Perception increases magical power by 8 and comprehension and awareness by a small unquantifiable amount."

"Dexterity increases flexibility, reflex, movement, and physical power. 1 point of Dexterity increases physical power by 8 and flexibility, reflex, and movement by a small unquantifiable amount.

"Willpower increases Mental Resistance and control as well as magical power slightly. 1 point of Willpower increases magical power by 5 and mental resistance by a small unquantifiable amount."

"And finally, Intelligence increases Mana capacity and Magical Strength by a significant amount. 1 point of Intelligence increases magical power by 10 and mana capacity by 10," he explained patiently

"However, three main secondary attributes can drastically increase these parameters if you are lucky or talented enough to acquire them. These attributes adopt both the effects of its main attributes. They are the Soul, Constitution, and Agility attributes."

"Soul, whose main attribute is Willpower and Intelligence, increases both Mana and magical power by 5, including the unquantifiable effects of the main stats.

Constitution, whose main stats are Strength and Endurance, increases physical power, stamina, and health by 5.

Agility, whose primary stat is Perception and Dexterity, increases physical power by 5, magical power by 3, and the unquantifiable effects of the main stats. However, remember that these figures can change based on titles, talent, etc.," Giffard concluded as he took another sip of his wine.

"How hard is it to acquire secondary stats?" Lucian asked as he grabbed the glass, examining its texture.

"It is extremely challenging to gain Secondary Stat with the Soul attribute being nearly impossible to attain. The faster you can acquire it, the better, but it mainly depends on your talent. For example, the last Chosen developed, the Chosen of Ares, gained two secondary attributes at level 59, showcasing his amazing talent. However, it is normal for most geniuses to have only gained one secondary attribute," he replied.

"Based on what he said, including the titles and secondary status, I have an incredible start already, which is good news," Lucian thought. Now, it seemed the only thing stopping him was finding a cultivation manual.

"But that still isn't enough if I am to compete with other races..."

"Now, to increase these attributes, doing activities pertaining to the attribute you want to increase will increase it until a certain point. You will find that your attribute cannot increase past a certain number at some point. Those roadblocks are called Limits."

"Limits are the main deciding factor between a weakling and a genius. There are two main limits. The Red limit, and finally, the Golden limit. Breaking through these limits will allow you to increase your stats per level, increasing your Strength with each level up. Breaking through Limits is very important during level 1, so I suggest you get to at least the Red Limit before you begin to level up."

"Wait, did he forget about the Black Limit? Does he not know about it?" He questioned himself but maintained a straight face externally. He wondered if he might've forgotten, but such a mistake was highly unlikely. This means the Black Limit was most likely unknown.

"Are there any Limits after those?" Lucian asked to confirm.

Giffard simply shook his head in response. "Not that I know of. Once a human reaches the Golden Limit, it becomes impossible to upgrade stats beyond 0.3."

Lucian nodded in understanding and grew silent. He had another advantage most others didn't. Based on his description of Limits, it will be the primary deciding factor on how many stats he gains per level. To have the advantage of the Black Limit as well as the unique title is enormous! If he gained 0.4 points in each stat per level and included his three Secondary Stats into the equation, he would have 360 stats in total! This math also didn't include his absurd Titles in the equation! Compared to a regular person at the Golden Limit's 180 stats without any Secondary Stats, He was doubling the stats he had!

And Lucian suspected that stats didn't simply add up additionally. Most likely, with that amount of stats in his repertoire, he would more than double a regular person in attack power.

Lucian took a sip of the wine with a smile. It had a smooth texture and a sweet aftertaste. It only served to add to the enjoyment he was having in this conversation.

"Those are the basics of the system. Now onto cultivation."

"Cultivation was created far into the war between the races. Humanity was losing drastically, and it wouldn't be long before we were defeated." Giffard explained sadly.

"That is when the first human to cultivate appeared for the first time."

"No one knew where he came from or how he did it, but people saw as he practiced, he grew much stronger than others, even though he was at the same level. He was the Founder of Mana Cultivation, Exalt Qing Li."

"Soon, the practice spread as humans began adopting it into their routines. However, it was not enough," Giffard said gravely.

"Most people had already reached levels where cultivation was not as effective due to their power, while some died to the lack of a strong enough body to contain such immense cultivation. And so, to strengthen the human race, Qing Li and the other founders of Body and Soul cultivation, Long Zi and Chen Yi, respectively, sacrificed their power and cultivation to make a deal with the system itself, making cultivation a part of the path of the human race forever." He concluded his history lesson as he took another sip of his wine.

Changing the topic, he continued. "I'm sure you've already seen the 3 cultivation manuals in your status. Those manuals pertain to the body, mana, and soul. Each must be cultivated to fully excavate the power residing in your body. The stronger your cultivation, the more power you can extrapolate from your stats. For example, a person with 10 stats in each attribute with no cultivation will do roughly 20 damage. However, with good cultivation at the same amount of stats, one can deal 25 damage with the same attack. That might seem small, but as cultivation becomes stronger, that 25 might turn into 30 or 35, or even 50! That means I can be much stronger than a person with stats far higher than I if my cultivation is stronger, and it is one of the reasons we humans are still here today. "

"Cultivation is the only thing that sets us apart from the beast-kin and other races. Without it, humans would be relegated to slaves to the other races."

"However, the drawback to it is its difficulty, and the resources needed the higher leveled you become. However, in regards to potential, with the addition of cultivation, a human could potentially surpass most, if not all, the lower races in power! We are only limited by ourselves." he concluded as he stood up from his seat.

"That is all we will go over for the basics of the system for now. Now to help you train, we need to determine your Innate Ability," Giffard said as he returned the bottle to his space ring.

"Your Innate Ability will determine what your fighting style might be as well as how powerful you can potentially become."

"Follow me," Giffard instructed as he walked through the training area.

Lucian thought about the conversation they had earlier. There was a lot to take in at once, but it seemed simple enough. However, one thing he got from it that he thought was essential was how much cultivation sets a person apart. Even with all the stats he had, without a powerful cultivation manual, it didn't matter much in the grand scheme of things.

Eventually, they reach a door with stairs going into the basement, which Lucian follows Giffard through. In the center of the basement was an orb-looking device. Standing in front of the device, Giffard directed Lucian. " Put your hand on the Orb. Once you create a connection with it, it will stimulate your spirit for your Innate Ability to appear."

Nodding, Lucian walked up to the pedestal and put his right hand on the Clear Orb.

Immediately, the Orb lit up with multicolored lights, filling the room with Vibrance and energy. The energy whipped through the small room as some paintings and furniture moved out of place. Giffard used some of his power to contain the energy without disrupting Lucian.

Lucian, however, was in a trance as his mind was transported elsewhere. He was reliving his previous life all the way from when he was a child till he reached adulthood. He saw himself as a child growing up in the slums. He also saw himself as an adult with Elijah and Anna at one of the diners they hosted with his company.

Lucian's life flashed before his eyes, but suddenly everything turned dark. Suffocating darkness suddenly surrounded him as he felt the world around him cave in.

The lights suddenly grew darker as Giffard took a step back. Immaterial beings began to appear everywhere looking similar to souls. "What is this?" He looked around in confusion.

In Lucian's mind, whispers entered his ears as his soul began to corrode. He couldn't let that happen.

Forcefully, he pushed out his power, pushing away the darkness as a light began to form around him again. Even though that still lingered, He was able to fend it off, preventing it from surrounding him.

Soon the surroundings returned to normal, with multicolored light flashing, banishing the darkness lingering on the room's edges.

Giffard nodded in appreciation. "Fit to be a chosen indeed. The energy he releases is far higher than I've ever seen. This Chosen is much more talented than even I anticipated...However, what was that darkness?" he thought solemnly.

After what felt like years for Lucian, the light began to die down as he regained consciousness. He slowly removed his hand from the Orb, still in shock from the procedure.

"Ah, you are finally done. That was quite the reaction, far more than I expected. What Innate ability did you receive?" Giffard asked curiously.

Lucian looked at his stats.

Innate Ability - Creative Momentum

Creative Momentum - Creates a permanent compounding effect on comprehension ability the more unique creations made. Stronger Creations will result in a more significant increase in comprehension.

[New Title - Deer Hunter I - You have killed your first Deer. Great! Now kill some more! 5% damage increase to all Deer.]

[New Title - Sturdy I - Surpass your Physical Limit. Increase Body's Sturdiness by 5%]

"It says my innate ability is [Creative Momentum]. it allows me to gain comprehension the more I create," he replied distractedly.

Giffard froze in place, suddenly turning into contemplative. He seemed to have a hard time telling Lucian about the results of his ability.

Eventually, he began, "I don't know how else to say this, but it seems you might have received an Innate Ability that is not as impactful as it seems. It probably would help quite a bit at later levels of your journey. However, it would be all but useless at this current stage." he said sympathetically.

From Giffard's experience, such Innate Abilities were pretty useless. Even at later levels! The amount of comprehension it brought would always be weaker than one gained naturally.

Giffard was slightly surprised at the result. Considering the disturbance, his awakening just created, he expected more from the Innate Ability. Alas, it was all useless.

"On a more positive note, this ability will not hinder your combat ability whatsoever, so you shouldn't be disappointed," Giffard added to cheer up Lucian.

"I understand," Lucian said as he nodded calmly; no trace of disappointment on his face.
