29. History

Violla explained that Cultivation was a huge part of gaining strength in this world. Leveling up without cultivating was a waste of a level. That means he will have to find a way to begin Cultivation. Apparently, the type of cultivation manual used is also a significant factor in determining your battle ability.

"Which means I need to find a way to find a strong cultivation manual to use." he thought as he lay in his bed. Obviously, he would need a powerful cultivation technique to use. The faster he could get such a manual, the better.

"But from what she said, a Chosen is automatically given their own cultivation manual once summoned. Which means I would be looked at with suspicion if I asked for a manual. I will need to find a different way of acquiring one, ideally as quickly as possible." he thought analytically.

"I'm going to need a more thorough understanding of Cultivation before I can plan anything. Hopefully, Mayor Giffard can help me in that regard. Once I have a good grasp of Cultivation, I will be able to judge what manual would be best for me or, if need be, maybe even create my own manual," he thought.

He was a well-known creator in his previous world, which gave him some confidence in figuring out the way cultivation worked in this world. However, his previous world was pretty new to the supernatural. Therefore he would need to work cautiously if he wanted to get anywhere. He'd rather not be stuck using a terrible cultivation manual he created. Although, with an excellent technique to reference, he was confident he could modify a cultivation technique to better fit him if he ever needed to.

"I do have a pretty good start with my titles and talents. However, I will still need to work hard to max out my Attributes to maximize my strength. Then ill be strong enough to finally...find..." his thoughts slowed as Lucian drifted to sleep, drowning in the comfort that an actual bed had to offer.

The Sun had finally set, leaving darkness and the silver light the moon produced as the many citizens of Perrnan went into their respective homes, sleeping after a day of trade and travel. It was a quiet, peaceful night.

Lucian woke up the next day, refreshed and well-rested, as he sat up from his bed. Stretching his body, he got onto his feet and walked onto the patio to enjoy the cool morning air. It was barely dawn, with the Sun barely out, producing a blueish-gray color in the surrounding.

The Fox was asleep in one of the corners. It seemed pretty comfortable, all snuggled up in the corner, putting a slight smile on Lucian's face. Honestly, he wasn't sure what to do with the little guy. It wasn't hard at all to take care of, but he wasn't sure it had a place in his journey. He knew what his future looked like, and he didn't want it to be dragged into the mess he would soon find himself in.

Staring at its idle body, he shook his head. It was following him of its free will, so he wouldn't stop it.

He moved into the bathroom to prepare for the day. After tidying himself, he wore plain fresh clothes and began heading out the door to explore the town in the morning.

Just as he was about to walk out of the room, he had to back away in surprise as one of the Mayor's subordinates was waiting behind the door.

"Good morning Sir. I have been ordered to escort you to our Mayor first thing in the morning. If you would please follow me," The subordinate said respectfully, turning towards the stairs as he began walking down.

A bit disgruntled, Lucian followed as he looked at the man in front of him.

[Unknown - LVL ??]

This guy was more discreet than even the Mayor! He most likely had an ability or skill which helped with that.

"I should be more alert. I can't let myself be surprised like that, especially when I have my [Soul Sight] ability," he thought as he followed the man's trail vigilantly. [Soul Sight] was a passive ability. However, it must be mentally activated for it to work actively.

"Same thing for when Violla entered my room. These people might wish well for me now, but I cannot let my guard down to them."

With this thought in mind, he silently walked with the man as they reached the first floor. Walking through the first floor, they arrived at a giant gated training area filled with all types of training materials that were being actively used. Thousands of soldiers trained and perfected their craft as he passed through. Nearly all of them moved with uncanny expertise as they spared at unbelievable speeds. Luckily, the area most were fighting was sealed off to prevent their shockwaves from disturbing others.

Towards the left, he saw Grayson's shadow fighting with his sword skills. His movements were both flowing and vicious, making him look almost like a deadly flower. Seeing Lucian, he stopped his training and waved good morning in his direction.

Nodding towards him, Lucian walked with the subordinate towards a little hut at the leftmost edge of the training area.

Sitting on one of the seats, Giffard sat with his legs crossed in wait. Seeing Lucian, his eyes lit up, a slight smile on his face as he regarded him.

"You look much better after a shower and a good night's sleep. Was the room to your liking?" Giffard asked with a smirk.

Smiling slightly, Lucian replied, "...Yes, it was quite well kept."

Giffard let out a big, bellowing laugh. "Haha! I've known Aerith and Aino for ages now. Aino is a little rough around the edges, but he's a good guy at heart." he said with a sly smile. "I told you. This is my town. It will be hard to escape my grasp," He joked as he made grabbing motions in the air and imitated what a villain would look like with an evil smile.

"Don't worry, you won't have to pay for the room as long as you live in Perrnan. Aino was just being a dick."

Lucian simply stared at the man before conceding. It didn't look like he would take no for an answer.

Giffard pulled out a bottle and two glasses from his space ring, pouring a red liquid into each as he invited Lucian to sit.

"This is Autumn plum wine, one of my favorite wines, aged for nearly 100 years. It has the amazing effect of clearing clouded thoughts and inspiring creativity. I hope you enjoy it." he introduced as he set the wine on the table between the chairs.

"Are you ready to start?" he said as he took a sip.

Lucian nodded as he sat right in from of Giffard. The chair he sat on was quite comfortable, with ample cushioning and a nice chair handle. He sat back as he listened attentively. It even seemed magically enforced, allowing the user to adjust its cushioning with buttons installed onto the chair handle.

Lucian leaned back into it. He was already enjoying it a lot.

"Good. I shall begin with the System's history and how it came to be" Giffard's kind smile turned serious.

"The System is said to have been created by the Multiverse to help the weaker races compete with races far stronger than us. Powerful creatures such as dragons, demons, devils, titans, gods, and so much more, there are far too many to count. Since its inception, which is said to be billions of years ago, the System has slowly expanded to other worlds to help fight for our survival. Every couple of months, a new world is engulfed by its power, empowering the inhabitant on it if they qualify." he explained.

"With its introduction, we can communicate with different races, and the world's most dominant and most potent source of energy, mana, is shared to enable humans and other weaker races to be able to wield abilities far beyond our previous capabilities," he said as he summoned a silver ball of mana into his hands casually.

"With the introduction of mana, we humans can interact with the higher truths of the world, enabling us to gain power similar to the higher races. However, it is still not enough. We are still much weaker than higher races and also much more of a threat with our newfound power." he said as he dispersed the ball of mana, a clenched fist taking its place.

"We began losing the war even faster due to the higher race's increased efforts to suppress us. With no other choice, Our first United Ruler among the humans and beast-kin, Archon Spurious Decima, made a deal with the gods, the only higher race willing to speak to us, to find a path of survival for the lower races. He allowed the gods to bless summoned humans from different worlds to lead the world in protecting us against the other higher races. With this, the gods gained worship from the masses, and we gained some protection from the higher races."

"That is where you come in. you are destined to be a pillar of protection for the lower races," he said as he took a swig from his glass. "The other higher races as still as big of a threat as they were in the past. We need able Warriors, Mages, and Hunters to lead the charge in protecting the human realms from their domination.

Nodding in understanding, he realized why the gods blessed humans with their powers. "They plan on profiting from the conflict between the races and boost our number of capable fighters to prolong the war further... Clever." Lucian analyzed. It was quite an intelligent plan. This way, they would appear generous to the human and beast-kin masses, creating dedicated followers. The worst part was even if someone realized what the gods were doing, it would change nothing because of how vital the chosen are to the survival of the lower races.

Lucian almost chuckled at the absurdity of how bad the situation was. Humanity was in really terrible shape.

Changing the subject, Giffard continued, "Now, to understand the system, you first need to understand its fundamental basics."

"Have you ever thought of why at level 1, your stats are a simple decimal compared to a whole number?" he asked seriously.

Lucian did have an inking, but he let him speak since he was giving out the answer.

"The system evaluated all of the lower races' stats equally and decided from there what our strengths are compared to the rest of the other races," he said gravely.

"We, humans, are the weakest race in the universe by far. We all start out with decimals for stats because our strength is simply a fraction of the other weaker races at the same level. To make up for that, we introduce different methods to allow ourselves to compete with them. Still, we will go over all of that at a later day."
