22. Training

And so Lucian formed a makeshift knife by sharpening some of the rocks near the stream. He used it to cut through the beast and harvest its teeth and skin to make a spear, bag, and clothes, respectively.

Using the rocks and some kindling wood, he created a fire on which he roasted the jaguar. He ate peacefully as he found a tall tree branch to sleep on.

Just like this, he hunted and ate to survive. On some days, due to heavy rain, he had to work without fire. Thankfully his body's immune system seemed far above a normal human, allowing him to live through what most humans couldn't. He dried some of his leftover meals and ate them as snacks on those days, keeping himself satiated.

He also practiced using his gift and [Phantom Body] every once in a while to damage his body and heal it, which showed impressive results. He saw a significant increase in his physical stats, allowing him to use [Primordial Bone Burst] and [Phantom Body] simultaneously more often.

He increased his upper limit to twice a day. Any further, and he would repeat what happened to him with the jaguar.

He also got more familiar with his other gifts, especially [Primal Muscle Activation] and [Titanic Body]. Currently, both had minimal effect on his body due to his stats, but he knew they did more than just what was listed in their description.

For example, he realized the additional control he gained from [Primal Muscle Activation] allowed him to do many cool things, such as contracting his muscles to increase his defense and even staunching wounds he received if he was ever injured. Meaning he could prevent bleeding out to a certain extent!

[Titanic Body] Also seemed to help increase the weight of his attacks when he attacked, making him both harder to be moved or blocked. His attacks also grew more solid due to his weight.

For example, a steel pipe will always hit harder than a piece of wood at the same size and speed, mainly due to the weight differences between the two. It wasn't registered on the system, but he knew his attacks were a bit stronger due to the added weight on his body, which made him even more eager. Right now, it wasn't much, but as he grew in stats, these differences would be monumental.

Lucian continued to practice with his gifts, growing more accustomed to using their advantages in a fight.

A couple of days passed by as Lucian walked opposite the stream. So far apart from a few low-leveled beasts here and there that he swiftly took care of with the help of his new favorite combo and the jaguar's tooth, it had been pretty dull. The highest-leveled beast he killed had been the jaguar, and nothing else seemed to be a threat once he activated the two skills together.

However, he was pretty excited internally to be able to punch above his weight by so much. At the same time, there was no challenge to any of the fights, disheartening Lucian slightly. He would've liked to thoroughly test out all his soul techniques, but there was no good opponent around, so he could only patiently wait for one as he traveled. Not that he was looking for more opponents, but... yes, he was looking for more opponents.

He couldn't help it! The excitement of growing stronger by the minute was almost addicting. He had just recently landed in this world, but he was already easily 2-3 times stronger, which was frightening! He couldn't even imagine how powerful other inhabitants of this world were.

In addition, apparently, this was a Grade 1 world. If that were the case, how powerful would the higher world be?!

Lucian walked through the forest with an extra pep in his step. Maybe if he fought that Rain-Deer, he could have more of a challenge, but Lucian vehemently rejected that idea, no matter how much he wanted to. The beast looked harmless enough on the surface. Still, he had a sneaking suspicion that that deer was even more powerful than he could imagine. No matter how much he wanted to test his limits, his safety was the biggest priority at this moment.

Before, he would ignore his feelings and go by the information he knew, but he learned quickly in the Underworld that instinct sometimes could be even more accurate than information.

With that being said, he took a look at his current status.

He gained a significant increase in his stats, with a good amount of them reaching the highest point of the Red limit. However, he couldn't seem to break through to the golden limit no matter what he did, which he found extremely irritating.

However, he saw that his skills were leveling quite nicely. So far, he had experienced approximately a 10% increase in the power of his [Phantom Body] and [Soul Cutting Blade], which was more than it sounded. Coupled with his body and soul energy, it was quite a massive difference.

At this point, his hair was full of 'wonderful' accessories, including wood and dirt that poked out periodically, giving him the complete jungle baby look he had never asked for but received anyway. He wore beast skin as clothes with a bag across his shoulder and a spear and knife in each hand.

Honestly, he looked like he'd be the perfect person to play the role of Tarzan if he had changed his stance on the murdering of his fellow animal friends.

Luckily, he could clean himself with the river's water, so he was decently clean.

Lucian walked causally until he heard something. About halfway through part of the shore area of the stream, he sensed something moving towards him at a rapid pace. Shifting his head to the left, an item whizzed past his head, barely scratching his skin.

Surprised, He steadied himself as he turned toward where the object he now realized was an arrow came from. Immediately after, another arrow was aimed at his head. Unable to dodge this time, he grabbed it at the last second.

Turning his head towards the arrow, he saw an insignia of a fanged bear carved into the arrowhead. His eyes narrowed as he stared back toward where it came from. The hooded hunter stared back with shock in his eyes.

Recovering quickly, the hunter promptly began escaping into the forest cover, obviously giving up his hunt.

"What. The fuck. Was that?" Lucian unconsciously blurted out at the absurdity of the attack.

"Well, that was rude. He must know I'm human, right?" Lucian unconsciously asked himself. He needed to catch up to the assailant. Luckily in his rush, the attacker left a trail that was easy to follow.

Jumping across the river, Lucian ran after him.

Soon, he could barely see the assailant as he quickly followed behind him. Unfortunately, they were evenly matched in speed, which honestly mildly surprised him. He didn't have any levels to his character whatsoever, so to match this person's speed was a testament to his new body's power. However, he needed to take it up a notch.

He activated [Phantom Body], SIgnificant increasing his speed. With the addition of Phantom Body, he whizzed through the terrain with ease as he took advantage of its slow-down effect when it was in use. It almost looked like he had lived here his whole life as he navigated the forest at unbelievable speeds, quickly catching up to the assailant's trail.

Seeing him gaining at a quick pace, the assailant panicked as he waved his hand in his general direction. Suddenly the Earth began to move as spiked roots broke out everywhere, barreling towards his direction.

"Magic!" Lucian thought as he readied himself for the plants. Roots grew everywhere on the ground forcing him to jump up into the air to escape. Thankfully with Phantom Body active, he could effortlessly jump 10 meters in the air to escape the onslaught.

It was a slight waste of time to jump over them instead of cutting through, but his weapon needed to be sharper to cut through those thick vines as quickly as he liked.

The hunter looked behind to see Lucian in the air, completely dodging his attack! However, with another wave, the vines exploded outward, flying through the air as they attacked from opposite sides to intercept his path, aiming to maim him in the air.

Lucian nodded, expecting such an attack. It was commendable her efforts in defeating him. In the air, he wouldn't be able to defend himself, which would make it a near guarantee that his attack would hit the target. Unfortunately for the attacker, however, Lucian wouldn't retreat that easily.

Lucian used another of his techniques. He named it [Aerial Steps]. Focusing his soul energy on his feet, he kicked his feet in the air, significantly increasing his speed. The great thing about this technique was that it worked in tandem with [Phantom Body], increasing his speed even further than without. However, the downside was the amount of energy a technique like that costs. It was even more significant than [Phantom Body]! Fortunately, it was more of an active skill than [Phantom Body], so he only needed to use it periodically.

Stepping into the air, he changed his trajectory as he moved at the speed of a bullet, right on the attacker's tail. He couldn't use it to fly, or at least not for long, but he definitely could use it to propel himself further.

Realizing he wouldn't be able to escape at the rate he was going, the attacker cast another spell, this time on his legs. Instantly he accelerated through the forest at a blinding speed, far faster than he could match. A wave of energy surrounded him, smashing apart the nearby trees as he bulldozed through the forest. Soon enough, he moved past his eyesight and his senses, far gone into the distance in the blink of an eye.

Lucian slowed down as he gaped slightly in surprise. "Wow... just like that, huh," he said in defeat as he gave up on the chase.

"Is magic that much more effective than my soul energy?" he said as he ran with [Phantom Body] at a manageable pace. "If this is what I'll be fighting against, I need to be prepared," he thought as he unsummoned [Phantom Body] to preserve his energy.

Soon enough, he found traces of him in the surroundings. Following the trail, he increased his pace to see if he could catch up to him. He didn't believe he could move like that for too long.

Suddenly he heard sounds of snapping twigs in the surrounding, making him stop his sprint to assess the situation. Looking around the forest, he depended on his soul sight to see where the attacker was, hoping to prevent another sudden ambush.

Unfortunately, he got his answer. Instead of one soul, he found three! And from the way they moved, they were most likely human! The attacker had called for some help.

Lucian slowed his approach, eventually stopping as he watched their movement. They stopped moving as well. Narrowing his eyes, he slowly moved back to probe if they could sense him, and just like he expected, they began slowly moving forward. They could sense him. Based on the strength of the last attacker, he doubted he could win this fight.

With this thought in mind, he instantly activated [Phantom Body] and [Aerial Steps] on the ground creating a small hole where his feet had been. His body catapulted through space as he navigated through the trees to escape.

Ignoring their previous attempts at concealing themselves, they rushed through the forest in chase. All three used the same ability that increased movement speed to chase, quickly catching up to Lucian. In evasion, he used [Aerial Steps] to step in the air to temporarily escape their grasp

In the air, he sighed to himself. "It seems like I'll have to use it. I have never used it before on Earth; hopefully, this new body can sustain some of the damage it does to the body," he thought to himself as he closed his eyes.

The aura around Lucian began to slowly change as his skin became dark red. Red energy covered his body as he floated in the air. Lucian finally opened his eyes. His pupil was now red as his hair grew slightly red in color, making his original black hair turn red in the proper lighting.

Turning towards three assailants, he twisted in the air, kicking in their direction. A red beam of energy flew through the air directly at the three.

Surprised, One of the three unsheathed their blade and slashed in response; his blade quickly destroyed the beam.

Delivering another beam kick, he took a step back, watching them block the attack with relative ease. His attacks were doing nothing to them.

Unable to hold them back, Lucian decided to make a run for with [Aerial Steps]

"AWOO!!"

Suddenly he heard a familiar howl as he turned toward the sound.

A black fox ran towards the assailants, baring its teeth as it got ready to pounce.

"Fucking hell! Why come now?!" He cursed to himself as he turned back towards the hunters. He didn't know if he was being rational or stupid. But he couldn't let them kill that Fox.

He rushed into the fray as one of the assailants nocked an arrow in his bow.

"STOP!"
