Spells

"let's talk about spells."

The teacher spoke.

"Knights and Mages can both cast spells, but their spells have significantly different effects.

Let me explain.

It's cool and all how Knights can refine and augment their body through their extensive Mana Pathways right?

Well, turns out it's not always handy.

Because of the way their Mana Pathways are structured, they have a hard time controlling mana externally.

That means, for you, my young Knight Apprentices, casting spells and controlling them is gonna be very difficult.

No, maybe i worded it wrong?

You have no trouble casting spells, but you do have trouble controlling the cast spell.

You see you don't control whatever Element you cast, you simply don't have the mastery to. You only control the Mana, and due to the nature of your Mana Core and the structure of your Mana pathways, controlling your mana outside of your body is gonna be challenging.

How much? To the point where you can only cast spells in point blank.

Let's say you conjugate a fireball. If it stays in your hand, it's all fine and dandy. But once you throw it away, maybe in an effort to hit your enemy, it'll disappear into thin air instantly.

You can't control mana that you're not directly in touch with, the mana loses its form and dissipates back into the atmosphere.

But don't worry, the weakness of your spells also has its own advantages that we'll get to in a minute.

Now, let's talk about Mages.

If you're a Mage then congrats. Although your bodies might not be as strong as Knights', nor you may not be capable of augmentation, your spells are far more powerful than theirs.

In essence, your Mana Rings, which are your Mana Cores, as well as your Mana Channels were built to channel out and control mana.

You can use a spell's full potential unlike Knights.

Let's say both a Knight and a Mage used the same spell, fireball.

A Knight's fireball would be small, not as powerful, and would vanish as soon they let go of it.

Now imagine a Mage's fireball. It's the full package!

Large, powerful, scorching hot, and ready to travel dozens of meters at your command, full of destructive force.

Now please do consider, that for both Knights and Mages, the power of their spells mainly rely on their own cultivation, mastery and execution of it.

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Execution, that's right. We've yet to talk about the execution.

Let's start with how Mages cast spells.

It consists of three steps, and a few preparations here and there.

The first step is the channeling step, the second step is the conjugation step, and the third stage is the execution step.

Let's use a simple example to make this easier to understand, how about the good ol' fire ball?

First you need mana, which you take from outside and refine on the inside.

Now that you have the mana, you look at the spell description.

Your mana has to travel outside through your mana channels in a specific order which the spell's instructions will determine for you.

You're gonna have to channel out mana according to the spell's description through specific mana channels, in a specific order, at a specific speed and velocity.

Once you're done doing so, you'll have completed the channeling step.

It sounds easy but one little mistake or misstep can either greatly alter or cancel the effects of your spell, that's why you need a lot of practice.

Onto the second step, we have conjugation.

This so where you control the mana that's now outside your body, and form or in other words conjugate the actual spell. in this case, the physical form of the fireball.

Now be very careful here, this is the most delicate stage, you need utmost control, timing and accuracy. and you also have to follow the spell's instructions step by step, because just like the channeling step, making a mistake in this step can ruin your whole spell.

Now you got through the hardest parts, the channeling and conjugating steps.

This is the last part and the easiest one, but you should still be careful.

It's the execution stage. Just aim your fireball and release it. But don't let go of it yet, you still have to control it as it's flying through the air all the way until it hits your target. If you lose control of the conjugated mana, the fireball will disappear in a matter of milliseconds, just like with Knights.

There's one more thing I wanna talk about. This isn't necessarily part of the conjugation, but part of the technique itself.

It's chanting.

Chants are great for visualization and will 10/10 times help you with casting your spell. but more importantly than that, chants have a physical effect on how your spells are cast.

In the channeling and conjugating steps you're gonna have to control your mana to an inhumanely accurate degree. Casting spells would be very difficult, slow and arduous if we had to do it all by ourselves every single time, not to mention the higher probability of making mistakes and lower success rates. This is specially the case for more advanced and complex techniques.

This is where chanting saves the day.

Spells are made of inscriptions, the language of Mana.

Through chanting, we speak out our spells and by speaking out our spells, we're communicating with Mana in its own language.

Hence why chants have a physical effect on our casting.

We command our mana through chants so we don't have to handle the full weight of physically casting spells by ourselves.

Oh and be careful not to mess up your chants either, it can and will ruin your spell.

Alright, now that we have a clear understanding of how casting spells works, one question remains. How do Knights cast spells?

Well, simple answer. Knights basically cast a significantly watered down version of the same spell as Mages, so their casting steps are the same except it's easier for Knights since their spells aren't nearly as powerful or complicated.

If you look at the empty half of the cup, it's a shame that they can't bring out the full potential of their magic 'Yet'.

If you look at the filled half however, the easier casting process makes it far more efficient in battle. Not to mention your physical prowess and augmentation abilities which is a cheat by itself.

Besides, our abilities evolve and alter themselves significantly as we cultivate, both Knights and Mages.

Your weaknesses now can not only be made up for but also become your strengths in the future.

You just need to keep cultivating diligently."

*Ring*Ring*

The bell started ringing at this point, signifying the end of this week's class.

"Well, there are a lot more things to talk about regarding the topic of mana and spell casting, but it seems that this is as far as we can go for this week.

See you next week and remember to cultivate, practice and study well!"

Picking up his tablet, the teacher donned his hat and stepped out of the class.
